The Pres and staff recently unveiled a DRAFT comprehensive facilities master plan - basically an attempt to make the campus nicer in terms of aesthetics and function - I won't go into detail about the whole plan (includes a unifying pathway from one side of campus to the other, more greenspace and more branding among many other details). There was a 60 page/powerpoint presentation, I won't share that because I am not sure if that is just for staff and faculty or what. Anyway, my understanding is that this point they are getting feedback and after that and many other steps and revisions the Board would need to approve - so please remember this is not set in stone. Same firm Kimmel B. In terms of Gola - seats behind the basket... it looks like a bump out and moving the court around, fitness center and pub looking out over Olney. Looks nice.
Thought I would be dead before this came to fruition.
Kudos to the school for making it happen and thanks to the donors who made it happen.

Nice job. All three things mentioned are sorely needed.

It looks much better overall. Adding more green space and fixing up other parts of campus sound great and I'm glad its being discussed. This makes Gola more appealing from the inside and outside.
It's a great idea to have seated seats in one whole section, but it should be away from the hard camera side because the students and general admission fans will play better on television. I hope that the university moves to more general admission seats because its always been silly to enforce anything but chairbacks/seats behind visitors.
I'm also concerned that it looks like there will now be some bad seats in Gola based on the proposed layout, I hope its not seats behind the basket at the expense of some decent sight lines.
All in all this is very positive and necessary to compete as a university and basketball program. I would love to see more of the plan when its appropriate to share.

This board: "we need seats behind the basket" Also This board: "Get rid of the seats behind the basket, it will obstruct a fans view for a total of 15 seconds a game, and forget that the palestra has the same seating behind the baskets"

This is awesome. I also must say that I'm glad they're not trying to expand the seating capacity much. I think it would be a big mistake to go much bigger than this proposal shows. This is the right size for our program, and we will still play bigger games at the Palestra once or twice a year anyway.
Frankly anything with seating on all sides of the gym and baskets that don't hang from the ceiling is perfect. And at least a halfway-working heating/cooling system.

I’m a little disoriented looking at the renderings. Is that exterior shot the view from Olney Ave or are we looking from the parking lot?
Thanks for sharing, great to see everyone excited!

The renders look great. I had heard about this a couple months ago but glad to see it looks like it is happening.

This took my breath away, just the idea that this might happen is a great development. Agree on not trying to expand the seating capacity, I'm totally fine with that. Well done by everyone involved, let's make this happen!!!

I really like the Galloway image on the outside but that makes me think not having a national championship banner in the inside rendering is a mini-miss. Otherwise, looks 100x better.

I'll ask the pertinent question: will the court continue to reside over a pool?

We will need to open up the checkbooks if we want this.

I believe that the exterior shown would be on the Edward/Francis side with an addition on the Olney Ave. side based on the roof line.

Got it. I only had a quick glance at it earlier on my phone so it was harder to see.
Not sure it’s possible but some flexible seating would be cool to increase capacity for any games where we could use an extra 500 seats or so. Otherwise I think we are in the sweet spot pretty much and the configuration looks great to me.
Very nice job so far. Now let’s get it done!

I'd imagine they will relocate those video boards. Perhaps higher and more flush with the corners?

One other question, in The interior rendering, is that the actual game day attendance?

They better put the big 'L' logo on the court, and plaster it everywhere else possible. Leave that Explorer logo behind.
