I don't think anybody is arguing it's a positive. Yeah, just the reality of things today. I am seeing all of these mid major players who were the top players in their program get in the portal almost immediately after they have the year-end meetings with their coaches. Lunatic is right. It sucks and it is ruining college athletics. Not just for La Salle but others above La Salle in the pecking order. No idea how this all ends.

If I replace Explorer Steve as the board wacko, so be it. We went from one end of the spectrum to the wild wild west, without any adjustment period. The pendulum has yet to find its center. People want to get on me about the Drame twins. I don't want to see anybody leave, but going to another A10 team wreaks of fishy business. Was Dambrot recruiting in the handshake line of the A10 tourney? That's the first thing that comes to mind. What kind of ethical lines were crossed by Duquesne? Where's the code in all of this. I may be a 40 year old dinosaur, but these are fair questions.

Is it fair to ask why you think this is such an awful thing for us? We finished a game under .500 with 6 wins in-conference, something we've proven the ability to do over and over before kids started getting paid. The Mountain West just put 6 teams into the tourney versus 3 for the big east (including Villanova's $7MM transfer + coach budget). You're screaming the sky is falling but there's no evidence it actually is, its just different and that different is to the massive benefit of the kids who create the entire product.

It just seems like you’re taking it incredibly personally with these 2 guys who, by the way, were only here in the first place because they left another school. I agree with you that this current environment probably isn’t sustainable for long, but I don’t fault the individual players, and I certainly don’t want to hear it from guys like Saban who became grotesquely rich coaching these kids.

Said a third way, if Drexel had called me after my sophomore year and offered a full scholarship and like $20K spending money, I would have had to be out the door. It would have been wildly irresponsible to my family not to. To look down on Drame for getting paid but not playing as much is as close to objectively wrong as you can get on a subjective debate. i had no problem with the twins taking the money. that was life changing money for them and their family back in mali. What kind of money did a small school like Duquesne offer those guys? They play hard, but it couldn’t have been much.

I meant to snap pic at final Gola game, but I was sitting behind a couple fans holding a sign honoring Gardler on one side, and the other side said Uncle Fran the GOAT of coaching. Does that mean they’re blood related? No idea. I’m going off a poster board I happened to see a few weeks ago.

He did just get awarded a scholarship in January. it was only for this school year. maybe even just the second semester. if he came back here for grad school, he would not be on scholarship. tommy is a good player, not your typical walk-on. hopefully he can find a d2 school that will give him a scholarship for his grad school year. he could help a lot of teams.

Speedy and Bud Gardler were also very close. Bud also gave Martelli his first job. Philly basketball is a tight community.

Well, If I am Dunphy not much for me to do but rebuild again. I have 2 signed and need re-recruit who I can and also find other recruits to elevate the program.
Job for a 75 year old man to want? I don't see it. I think he is done. Doesn't need this headache. He helped La Salle get the arena done and now I say to Dunph......coach you have done enough. Enjoy retirement if you have any shred of doubt you want to do this anymore.
