Ok but how many of those facilities were in the bottom 10% of all facilities nationally and bottom 1% of schools competing in conferences in the top 10% of conferences? Earlier when I said the "Fire G" commentary had overtaken "new facilities" as the leader, I think I might have been wrong because here we are. And really, what's the difference between pulling 15 wins a year with Giannini and 5 wins a year with the next guy? That's a bad argument that doesn't further your point. Stop.

Oh..... I'm not assuming G is the coach when a new facility opens. I am assuming that a new facility makes it easier to land the same level of player currently on the roster. Meaning finding a new coach might be easier because you could bring a guy in that maybe isn't quite the salesman G is and more of an X and O guy than G is.

If you can give me evidence that a new arena will inspire John Giannini to coach an effective offense again, or defense, or even just maybe not cultivate a team which immediately shits the bed coming out of timeouts, then we can have that discussion. As it stands, a new arena would just be a shinier tomb in which he can continue La Salle basketball's living death. And really, what's the difference between pulling 15 wins a year with Giannini and 5 wins a year with the next guy? I'm an Accountant so I know that answer. It's 10 wins.

Of the 18* teams that have erected a new arena in the last 9 years, 4 fell in RPI and 6 failed to breach the top half of the RPI (175). Only 3 are well positioned to make a run at at-large bids. If new arenas were launching Sun Belt and MEAC teams into the upper half of RPI and at-large contention, we wouldn't even be having this debate.

Obviously that's not ideal, and there is at least some different, but exactly how much difference there is functionally is an interesting topic.

I'm NOT NOT NOT going to make a comparison to their win and La Salle's run, and how money is going to get spent. But Villanova is capitalizing on their success in the biggest way. I hate them but they certainly handle their business well. I think Jay was signed through 2020? I wonder if he got an extension as the first order of business.

But Villanova is capitalizing on their success in the biggest way. I hate them but they certainly handle their business well. Now, now . . . the current thinking (which was adopted from the past administration) is that La Salle fans and alumni have to "demonstrate" and "show" they need a new arena by selling out the current place and do that "consistently." And that is not remotely achievable without winning . . .and the circle has been completed.

But proportionally, Nova is doing with their success what LS should have done. In fact, if you look back at it, they really started this process with their 2009 Final 4 and getting a great practice facility. Talk about a school that embraces and maximizes the exposure of their most recognizable athletic program to have people infer that ALL of their programs (academic and athletic) are best in class. La Salle needs to have its message heard but they appear content to do it without men's basketball

I will say this. Our guys took a private jet to SBU today. If you've never taken a bus to Olean in the winter then you have no idea how great of a luxury a jet up there would be. Good for them.

More like 1980 (and you can argue earlier) when they joined the Big East and solidified their basketball team as a perennial national program. Cripe the basketball coaches salary has been endowed since the mid-90s. The Pavillion hasn't been remodeled until now because of 1. - the guy who was going to pay to have it remodeled murdered a wrestler. 2. - Radnor Township not letting them expand.

Finneran's donation had an expiration date. As a result, Villanova got rushed into doing it quick instead of doing it right and there's a number of people unhappy as a result.

Can you measure a team's success by how they fly and how often they fly? I am pretty sure the '69 team only had one flight...to Buffalo... A private jet? No TSA delays.

Crazy thing is nowadays with the apps and programs it's actually fairly easy to get a private jet and in that matter if it's a decent sized group say a basketball team it is probably about the same cost as a bus

Practical questions and looking for legit opinions. 1. What type of arena are we looking for? What will be the use? Basketball only or serving other athletic needs? 2. Where will it be built if a stand alone? Will it be a remodeling of Haymen and TGA? 3. From the poll, looks like the consensus is between 4000 and 6000. Split the difference and call it 5000. How much would be needed to complete project? 4. How will it be funded? Back to the issue at hand, we will be talking about the coaching situation more in a month I presume. I'd build a standalone, basketball only facility. Men's and Women's hoops, and the rest of the athletic programs can have Haymen at the choosing. You can put updated weight rooms and training facilities that all athletes can use also, but I don't want women's volleyball having practices and matches in there. I'd build the faculty either at Wister and Belfield, Belfield and Lindley, Lindley and Ogontz, or at the Armory... definitely down by South Campus... less congested, closer to Route 1, and therefore 76. You have John Glaser's 10 million. Announce a funding drive and if it takes 5 years, so be it. Try and secure naming rights for most of the funds. ****If La Salle ever got a liquor license, we could host concerts and other events like Temple does with Liacouras.
