The box being full of people with experience coaching and recruiting in the college environment. This. I see no success coming. It isn't like Steve Kerr -> Warriors.

I get that Joe and Mr. D, but programs such as Bama and St. Johns have the money to hire an assistant coach with prior head coaching experience. Explorer Steve and others make the argument that LaSalle should do that to give G help with offense, and all that, but the answer is simple, LaSalle isn't going to allot that much money for an assist coach. Bama and The Johnies have booster that will give Johnson and Mullin the help they need to succeed. Particularly with Avery Johnson, he's been on ESPN for years now, he had credibility to recruit right away. Chris Mullin is in the Basketball HOF. Hell, he was on the damn Dream Team. He'll be okay.

First off, these coaches have egos the size of the arenas they play in. Most think they know what they're doing, so they aren't going to hire somebody that will call the shots. THere is so much more to college coaching than knowledge, and even then you aren't successful 100% of the time. I think Mullin struggles because nobody that could potentially go to St. John's cares about Chris Mullin. Same with Avery Johnson.

Right. Mullin is a cool name-draw if you're trying to recruit me, the 36 year old who grew up in NY. A 17 year old was like 3 years old when he retired.

Funny that since we made these brilliant, unassailable points, Obekpa has announced he's staying and Jordan said he's leaning towards not declaring. If he adds Shelton Jones to the staff the rest of the Big East could be fucked.

Its either going to be a great move, or an Isaiah Thomas to FIU type move. You aren't gonna have a 5 year run with 3 NCAA's and 2 NITs

I don't know to be honest, but Capel took his name out of consideration, I believe on Tuesday.

The rumor is Capel took his name out of consideration because Arizona State is an Adidas school now and he's a Nike guy

That is the first I've heard of Shelton Jones going to St. John's as an assistant coach I think Barry rohrsson Will take the job at St. John's this week If the Big East is going to flourish they need a strong Georgetown St. John's and Villanova he can't recruit every single player out of New York to New Jersey so they're still going to be some good players left

The rumor is Capel took his name out of consideration because Arizona State is an Adidas school now and he's a Nike guy The influence of sneaker companies in college and AAU basketball is insane. Everyone always bitches about the NCAA having a double standard and being corrupt, how about we clean up the the influence of the sneaker companies on these teams? It seems borderline illegal. It's bullshit no matter how you slice it. Sonny Vaccaro wants to be classified as some sort of Robin Hood against the NCAA, but he's just a puppet for the sneaker companies.

The rumor is Capel took his name out of consideration because Arizona State is an Adidas school now and he's a Nike guy If this is true, it is beyond insane. Is being a "Nike guy" or "addidas guy" akin to belonging to a gang or being in a mob crew? This crap has got to end if they have that level of influence.

Shelton Jones was awesome when I was a kid. Did I just start a rumor???
