His record in and out is really strong. Wins a lot of games, but outside of a run he's done nothing but underachieve in 10 years. Perennially doesn't get through the first weekend. Unless I'm miscounting, he's got a certain handsome someone beat in tourney wins over the last 6 years and without the benefit of a #1 and 2 #2s.

Rumblings and grumblings are that Danny Hurley is on the short list for St. John's. That would be great news. This I believe. He'd kill it there. As would Shaka Smart....but I think Hurley is their guy.

Watch for Richard Pitino Jr to have his feelers out there for the St. John's job too I would imagine.

Zagsblog report this morning has Jeff Neubauer as a possible candidate for the Fordham job. Looks like Fordham is looking to go "cheap". Pecora was making $700k. Toole turned the job down because Fordham was supposedly offering $500k. I think that Bob Hill was making close to a million when he was there. Could the well be running dry with the big money donors there?
Also, in the article, there is speculation that Fordham is interested in joining the Patriot League.
Hofstra has been knocking at the A10 door to join the league for years.

If they're going to go cheap on hiring a coach, then that says they're not committed to A10 level basketball. Maybe it's time they moved to the Patriot League.

Fordham isn't going anywhere. Just a writer stirring the pot.
They have three current candidates all of which IMO are clear upgrades from Pecora. Someone mentioned it before since Fordham is a rebuild job the base salary might be lower but the incentives are probably through the roof if success comes. Alumni can also come forward in helping depending of the hire.
The three names involved are Jim Engles, Jeff Neubauer and Kevin Baggett.
Also, George Mason will announce it's hire who most likely is UC Irvine's Russel Turner...excellent hire for them.

Unless I'm miscounting, he's got a certain handsome someone beat in tourney wins over the last 6 years and without the benefit of a #1 and 2 #2s. Just for clarification about your math - Jay Wright has 3 NCAA tournament wins over the past 6 years and JT III has 2. Also, let's not make it sound like Georgetown is getting 8 or 9 seeds all the time. Over those 6 years you mentioned Georgetown had a 2 seed and two 3 seeds. Your point is taken, that Wright has underperformed in the NCAA in recent years, but he does have more NCAAA wins than JT III over the past 6 seasons.

Austin newspaper named Gregg Marshall of Wichita State and Shaka Smart as the leading candidates to take over at Texas for Rick Barnes. "Smart has long been connected to the Texas job as a possible candidate" Barnes earned $2.55 million this season and a bonus of $125,000 for making the NCAA tournament.

I think next year they're going back to calling the Round of 64 the 1st Round and the Round of 32 the 2nd Round.

That Texas job is a huge job. Not many perennial top-25 programs come open. That's the kind of job a guy like Shaka who's turned everything down may actually take

I'd bet on Marshall getting the offer over Shaka.

Yeah? Maybe I'm biased because I looooooove Shaka, but I would think they're around the same level coaching-wise but with Shaka's fun as hell system and the 15 year age gap being a big nod.

I tweeted this, but those two guys could start a lot of coaching jobs changing. The VCU job is an interesting one because Shaka built it, but they definitely like where they are at and might invest the money. Same with the Wichita State job. But I expect both of those guys to jump to Texas and Alabama, respectively.

Dave Paulsen is the new coach at George Mason. Good get by the Patriots. I thought of him for La Salle at one point when G was struggling with Murray and the program would be great for us. Guy can coach

If you look at our last 4 coaches to jump up (Ford, Miller, Gregory, Stevens), and our probable next 2 (Smart, Miller), all were hired before 40. So while I'm sure Neubauer and Paulsen are both good coaches who can handle the A-10, I'm just not excited.
