To show kids the dangers of transferring out of the SEC for playing time?

CBS is reporting that Tennessee has fired their coach, Donnie Tyndall, after 1 year. Presumably that is due to NCAA violations from his old job. The impression that I got down here in SEC country when he was hired is that a lot of Tennessee fans were skeptical of his ability, or thought that having to go to Southern Miss for a coach was beneath them. I guess they'll be happy, though I don't know who they'll bring in. A lot of Vols fans want Bruce Pearl back, but his Auburn buyout is pretty large.

From the people I've talked to, they see it less as Pearl's fault and more of the big, bad NCAA sticking its nose in places that it doesn't belong. He's a great recruiter and and above average game coach. Makes sense why they'd want him. Plus, it's the SEC. They play fast and loose with integrity so long as the wins are there.

Steve Lavin is out as coach at St. Johns...holy shit that's weird. The guy took them to 2 NIT's and 2 Dances in 5 years. Before Lavin got to St. Johns, they were a CBI team, a Big East bottom feeder...I don't know what people expect out of a coach.
Anyways, if G ever left for DePaul, I wouldn't mind giving Lavin an interview.

What a strange week there. First there are reports the administration was keeping him but the big money guys didn't want him. They would have to pay him $2 million buyout. Then word is the school is working on an extension. Now this. Wow.

Now talk about some of the individual talent on that roster with mid-atlantic ties... Also will be interested to see what Samir does..

Would be surprised if it happened. The kid is a natural born scorer and lacked an outside shot when I saw him last year.

Not implying that La Salle would be in his cards.. but I find often these situations interesting.. The Canadian kid (who name I am forgetting) committed to Marquette and then went to UVA, after Buzz left, is going to be a gem for them.. Looked great his first year

Rumblings and grumblings are that Danny Hurley is on the short list for St. John's. That would be great news.

Andy Toole going to interview with Fordham. Sideways, or maybe even downwards step.

Right? That sounds like a terrible idea for Toole unless he's doing it just to gain leverage

I dreaded when Hurley came into the conference and would be happy to see him go. While I'm not necessarily sold on his coaching ability in college (yet), he's a killer recruiter. Lavin was bringing some talented guys onto that team, but Hurley could get some real blue chippers out of northern NJ/NY.

We need one more guard who can make shots from beyond the arc to compliment Jordan, Cleon, and Johnnie. He doesn't fill that need....

Not a fan of his game for us. I still won't buy stock in our point guards. We do need another shooter as well.

His record in and out is really strong. Wins a lot of games, but outside of a run he's done nothing but underachieve in 10 years. Perennially doesn't get through the first weekend.
