Tennessee wastes no time, swooping in to get Barnes. That's a definite upgrade over Tyndall.

No state income tax in Texas! Longhorns may still have to back up the Brinks truck for Shaka.

If Chris Mullen to St. John's works it's the closest argument to Legler and 20th and Olney. I can already see all the keyboards heating up.

He gets to the tournament a lot. Granted, he had the luxury of a big name school with a ton of money behind him, which makes recruiting a lot easier. They made a couple deep runs but mostly flame out. Still, I think I'd take consistent tournament appearances over nothing.

How hard is it to get to the tournament at Texas? Go 500 in the Big 12 and you're in...Look at his last 10 years, he's had what, 3 good teams in the past decade? Meh...

Giannini would make consistent appearances at Texas. Most coaches who aren't actively sabotaging their team would.

True, and I acknowledged as much with the recruiting help (and the fact that Texas often gets in based on its name, this year being a good example) BUT I guess my overall point is that terrible is a bit strong. He had some success at Providence and Clemson before he even took the Texas job. Do his teams underachieve? Sure. At worst, I'd say he's mediocre, but keeps landing in good spots. He should still be able to recruit fairly well at Tennessee.

How the hell doesn't Texas win the BCS or its spawn every single year? They have every advantage imaginable. They're the biggest state school in the biggest football state in the country and have their own friggin' TV network and play in one of the best cities in the country.

Mack Brown was old toward the end and rested on his laurels. He really set the program back. Strong is a good hire for them, but he'll have a much shorter leash. His hire didn't go over well with some of the fans and boosters, for reasons that had nothing to do with football. I like him though, he's a solid game coach and can really recruit.

Marshall staying with the Shockers
Matt Norlander ?@mattnorlander Wichita State had to step up massively to keep Marshall. And it did. $3.3 per year is a rollover contract, per source.

Bowling Green can't be pleased when any article about their program involves the statements "head basketball coach" and "pushed female's head towards his crotch"

Gola once said about his 23-1 team: "I just handed them the ball. I had the horses." More recently Larry Cannon said of Gola: "He knew not to overcoach us." That was a rare combination - a part-time coach who had the respect of a very talented group.

Avery Johnson to Alabama. I imagine Tide-rs would have been a lot happier with Marshall.

I love the Avery Johnson hire...wanted the Sixers to take him back in 2009, instead, we got, wait for it...Eddie Jordan. The fact that Billy King like Jordan's Princeton Offense, and thought AI could run it is a head scratcher, in 2015, 2009, 2005, 2001...hell, when he was at Georgetown.
Anyway, I like the Avery Johnson hire, and think it's a good, outside the box, hire.
