Not sure I agree Joe. Both jobs would require a couple of eye-opening years. The problem lies in that it is very difficult to sustain success at both schools because of the commitment of both administrations. Not sure that DePaul job is much better than La Salle. I agree on the last statement, but it is higher profile. The players you can get to DePaul are going to be, on average, better than those you can get to La Salle. Steve Zack, Amar Stukes...they aren't getting on DePaul's roster. Better conference, more TV exposure, a larger recruiting budget... The jump from DePaul to a top-40 job is easier (and maybe 'possible') than the jump from La Salle. Yes that is true but it is relative. It also makes it harder and more constant criticism and review as well as greater pressure. I suspect DePaul would have a shorter leash than La Salle to remove a coach. La Salle gave G 9 years to turn it around. De Paul would never do that.

La Salle might be a better job, but if Giannini's ambition is to one day coach Illinois...he could make that jump from DePaul. Not from La Salle.

I think he could make a big move from LaSalle to a top 40 job, but it would take an Elite 8 run to do it...so far, only Sean Miller and Thad Matta have made the jump. Travis Ford and Brian Gregory have made smaller jumps, and if you go back further, you have Jim Harrick and Calipari

I wouldn't look too much into that. It's a local reporter asking Steve about a high school coach he cares a lot for who is losing his job. He's not going to say, "He's the sixth best coach I've ever had, only behind Sean Neal."

I guess because it's the SEC? I would think he'd have a better chance getting to the dance through any Big East team as opposed to Kentucky. Sure they take more than one SEC team, but they'll never be top dog in that conference.

calsufan I hear you. But this may explain it a little. Via twitter
Gary Parrish ? Also: Like I said Sunday, Ben Howland’s ties to adidas make this marriage less out-of-nowhere than it might seem. State is an adidas school.
And Andy Katz from earlier today in a series of three tweets -
In talking to Ben Howland during the season, he made it clear he was getting back into coaching. He said he wasn't going to pass on jobs.
Howland tried to get Marquette and Virginia Tech a year ago but to no avail. Miss State can pay him enough. Makes sense if it gets done.
Howland wanted a job at a major football school. Programs can flip quickly and move up in the SEC below Kentucky and normally Florida.

Can't see any scenario G leaves now having brought in the guys he has. I understand that's not purely enough to keep him but certainly moves needle much closer to staying

I don't believe G will go anywhere for the next few seasons minimum. In all honesty many of us criticize G ( I am included) but when you look at the big picture he has done pretty well (NIT/NCAA tornaments, Sweet Sixteen), winning seasons three of past four seasons. No matter what anyone thinks G has a tough job selling program and keeping it on the positive side of .500. Next season will be tough but the following year (2016-17) should be a very good team.

I wasn't going to say much because I couldn't get too much on it... and since the flack people just love to give on this board..
But just summarizing the person who I talked to there with Chicago D1 University ties.. (and this is after he asked aloud "Who is David Kaplan?")...
paraphrasing...
'David Kaplan has named 20 people for this "short list" in last 3-4 days alone.. He has a radio show to promote'
I can go into more detail if you guys want... The guy said it in such a blunt fashion (typical Chicago) that I remember the quote fairly well but I feel that this should suffice...

For what it's worth the Buffalo AD is the son of the current Duke AD. Cynic in me says wouldn't it be something if Coach K and the AD retired together at some point and the JV/farm team takes over in Durham?

Word is the report on Hurley is wrong.
Jeff Goodman ?@goodmanespn · 8m8 minutes ago Bobby Hurley has not signed deal to stay at Buffalo, sources told ESPN. As of this moment, source said he intends to interview with DePaul.

That would have been a bad trade both in terms of the program and in terms of competing for second place in Big 5 Most Attractive Coach.

This post is not helping our recruiting. It might be best to close it down. Most of the posts are just idle chatter.

Seems like on pure location alone they should have done better than that coaching wise. There's a talent pool in your own backyard to go after

It seems like a lazy hire.
School Prez to the AD: "I guess you're going to need a new men's basketball coach."
AD to School Prez: "I still have Dave's number on my Rolodex. Let me use my rotary phone and call him up. He's not doing anything this week."
