13-69 in conference over a half decade. Unfortunately a few of those belong to G... devastating losses.

By the by, does this put to rest the stupid notion that Giannini would have to take a step down if we were dumb enough to fire him? Whether or not he gets the job, or even gets an interview, outside perspective shows he's still a more than viable head coach.

Twitter was a fire last night that Ty Corbin was the new frontrunner for the DePaul job.
If they make that hire, I would actually announce it as "Ty Corbin Is Hired As The Next DePaul Coach To Get Fired Four Years Into His Five Year Deal."

Yeah, I don't get that at all. No college experience at all but he's going to start recruiting into a major conference at a school that historically doesn't draw players.

I'd be surprised if Howland didn't take it. If he doesn't it's between Drew and Hurley. Probably Drew since he has better recruiting ties to that area.

Howland also in the running to take over a few other jobs including Utah St.
Something feels odd about this whole thing. I don't think Hurley leaving for DePaul. Byrce Drew is interesting but he also has other opportunities such as George Mason. So many IFs in this situation but I don't see DePaul getting their first choice.

Could G be using this to get a raise? What if the school wished him well instead of giving him a raise? Would they give him a raise?

Could G be using this to get a raise? What if the school wished him well instead of giving him a raise? Would they give him a raise? Would you? He got a raise after the 2013 season. La Salle needs to be careful about giving long-term contracts and extending their coach too far out. Especially after we have been a .500 program since 2013. I think G is a fair person and would not do that to La Salle to get a raise. He would go if he really had interest in the De Paul job. I don't see him pushing for the job to get more money from La Salle.

Is the call to go back "home" to Illinois that great? Pull up stakes in Mullica Hill? Move away from one daughter at Villanova?
ehhh if he goes he goes.

no, I would not give him a raise....I think.
Part of me goes back to sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't in terms of a coach at La Salle. Who else could get La Salle to the NCAA tournament and NIT given the resources? It's so much easier to miss on a coach at La Salle b/c the university support level is so low that coaches aren't put in a position to succeed. If you miss on a coach for 4 seasons, that means you need to find another coach to get you out of a deeper hole.
Right now, as depressing as the last two seasons have been, the fact that back-to-back .500 seasons is not acceptable means the program is on a much higher level than it was when G arrived. The job is more appealing and an easier climb back to the NCAA than it was 10 years ago, however, that doesn't mean it will be easy and much harder than it would be at most any other A10 school to get there.
That being said, there's no guarantee that we would end up with a worse coach/recruiter/rep for the school than we have now and could very well end up with someone better. BUT...this is a really, really tough job and you have a guy who has proven he can succeed given the limtiations and restrictions placed upon him. If/When the facilities are more in line with a program with a goal of competing for an A10 title year in and year out, I would be more apt to think differently.

I imagine I'm on the far edge of G supporters and think our odds on getting someone better are well less than even, but I don't think I'd sweeten his deal either.

I love G. I think he's a very good coach. He's not a perfect coach. But I think if you were to follow every team at our level as intently as La Salle, you'd find flaws in X's and O's and the like.
But there's no shortage of coaches out there who would take the La Salle job at a cheaper price than what G's at right now, depending on what's available in the market. Toole would jump up from the NEC. Brennan from American's very good. I like the Vermont coach a lot. I like the Albany coach a lot. Neubauer's done well at what must be an incredibly hard place to recruit. And that doesn't even get into the amount of assistants out there who would love a promotion.
We're a consistently .500 A-10 team with a string of Top 100-ish RPIs and a recent history of tournament success. We're also smackdab in the middle of a great recruiting pool, in a major media market, and in a city with a ton of amenities. There's so much to work with here.

Not exactly true. I said it before but things have changed for the A10 as opposed to the mid 2000's. It isn't so much a stepping stone anymore Shaka and Archie are showing that. Both had opportunities to leave and stayed.
The A10 is a much much better conference than it was when guys in this conference were hired which is one reason I think Fordham and George Mason are going to be able to get solid coaches.
La Salle could do the same thing. The Big 5 is attractive and so is the A10.
I don't think G is leaving...the possibility is definitely there. When push comes to shove I think La Salle could make a good decision IF he were to leave.
I still like G and want him around for a few more years but at the same time I am not against putting an end to the G era.

I think the best thing that could happen for all parties involved is if G is offered the job at DePaul. I still don't know why he didn't make the jump after the Sweet 16 year.

Probably thinking about the "stay good" part. Also why leave when you should have 2 potentially great seasons in front of you with intact core guys on the roster and high potential transfers simmering on the back burner. All things point to, he got extended and thought he was beginning a legacy that he wanted to see through here.

Buy low, sell high...G came when we were at our lowest, surprised he didn't leave when we were at our highest... What was available that year in terms of being a goo fit? Northwestern wanted to grab a bigger name and is also a pain of a program. Rutgers was a mess. Why move there if La Salle gives you a raise?

Rutgers is a classic "Giannini style" rebuild in the fact that the program was coming out of a black eye of a scandal...Northwestern had the Chicago angle, then again, who wants to coach in the Big 10? I'd rather go to The Big East anyway.

Both had opportunities to leave and stayed. Archie will leave when he gets the higher league program just like his brother. Don't kid yourself, he's biding his time. Shaka, it's hard to say. He's pretty tied to VCU, but if a major, major program came along and threw money at him, he'd probably go. I think the reason he didn't take the UCLA job was it wasn't a good fit style and recruiting wise.

I laugh reading this thread (as well as the many insightful conversations posted here), that so many of the hardcore fans of the program are so willing to banish our coach to an struggling a Big East Program. If a power conference coach hinted that he had an interest in La Salle the stalls would be occupied with many "fans" typing with one hand.
We are La Salle! Our coach deserves our respect. We all have opinions about our expectations. Sometimes they are exceeded, other times they fall short.
At all times, the name on the front of the jersey is what matters.
I encourage the continued conversation about our coaches strengths and weaknesses. The manner of in which we conduct this debate is something to be desired.
