What a first day, the A-10 schools did the conference proud.

Watching the Jasper's, Dayton, nova SLU and SJU today, it's no wonder we were basically a .500 team. We played a lot of really really good teams this year. GO Christian Bros.!!! Wait, what?!? But Angry Al, et al said that everyone we lost to sucked. I am so confused...

Can someone recap for me the financial split (or pull up last year's thread on the topic) - just curious as to what each win means for us. Obviously, it's not nearly as lucrative this year as last year for us individually, but it all helps.

We played an absolutely insane schedule. And we still came a basket against Manhattan, VCU, St. Louis and George Mason each from being right there. It might not have been quite enough to get over the hump but all of a sudden that's six really huge wins and a Top 20 or so schedule.
It was just a bit harder than we were able to handle. It happens.
That's not say the team didn't have its issues shooting the ball. But they were a lot better than their overall record shows. Finishing under 500 with a Top 100-ish RPI is really hard to do.
If Manhattan was in the A-10, the conference would have had seven teams in the tournament. They're better than St. Joe's and Dayton (and not taking a thing away from those teams when I say that -- they're better than the Explorers, too).
The Jaspers were a really friggin' good team. If Louisville is the 13th or so best team headed into this thing, the Jaspers could have beaten anyone beneath that seed probably 50 percent of the time.
Harvard's of the same cloth. They matched up physically with Cincy and were just a better team. That wasn't an "experienced team making jump shots versus BCS team with athletes" game. That was just Harvard being underseeded and Cincy not having the horses to keep up.

I have more hatred for UConn's success than distaste for Phil and Halil, and I was really looking forward to a Big 5 game tomorrow. If I'm a St Joe's fan, I complain about something else. Can I expand "A10 teams" to include former member Villanova? I'd like to get an opinion from someone why two of their losses were blowouts to Creighton, and the rest of their schedule had only one loss before MSG. Is it match-up problems they experienced? Will they reach Elite 8 as their seed suggests they should? But.. Kevin Ollie is a far cry from calhoun, give em a break Joe had a great interview on that Nova Creighton game. Creighton just shot lights out. They would have beat the sixers that night too.

Obviously, it's not nearly as lucrative this year as last year for us individually, but it all helps. Basically, we earned $2mill per game in last year's NCAA tourney. The conference receives 25 per cent of the total. We get 75 per cent payable over six annual installments beginning the year after that tourney appearance.

So by my math, we earned somewhere around 3 million last year, vs. roughly $300,000 this year for the A10's appearances thus far. Is that accurate?

Mercer's got a shot if they can close out possessions. Duke's shooting lights out from deep. That might stop. Duke's crashing like four guys at once on the offensive glass. Mercer's getting some nice early looks when they close out. They can score the basketball.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES? The Bears Win. The Mercer Bears win.
Take that K. (loved the stunned look on his face during the last 5 minutes.) Now he'll sit at home 10 miles away while Mercer plays on Sunday.
I didn't see the first half but on the radio they said the Mercer coach watched K working the officials during a timeout. On the next time out, the Mercer coach went right after the ref. I loved it.

So the A10 has popped collective Mercer boners. This has been the most unified the A10 has ever been, i love it.

I hope it stays that way! I sorta love when there are SEC chants at football games. We can be the mid-major version of that. For the most part, the schools in the A-10 go about things the right way. There have been some sleazebags over the years (Calpari, Harrick, what happened at Bonnie's and Billy Hahn). But they're all really likable, overlooked programs.

Door wide open for UMass now to the 2nd weekend Turned out the door was wide open for UMass to sh*t the bed, as usual. Mercer can flat out play and should have a good shot to take out Tennessee.

UMass has been on fumes for over a month. This was not surprising.
