It's confirmed that at least one of the games will not be played at the Palestra. Here's the opening paragraph of an email that went out to St Joe's season ticket holders recently:
We are pleased to share that the full season ticket package will include 16 games highlighted by home games in Hagan Arena against Villanova, Creighton and Drexel and conference opponents La Salle, Saint Louis and VCU. Even with an additional home game this season, full-season ticket prices will remain unchanged for the fifth year in a row.
Disappointing to say the least. Both games should be at the Palestra.

Then our home game must be played at Gola. Can't give St. Joe's an advantage regarding home/neutral court like we have in the past.

This is twice now that we have had to travel to Hagen.
Unless we're holding all tickets to the Palestra I say play it at Gola.

By my count the Hawks are 1-0 against Nova and 2-1 against Temple at the Hagan. It's no surprise that Martelli/DiJulia is moving their home game away from the Palestra.
I'm so torn on what we should do. If I was in charge I'd probably lean towards the Palestra and limiting their ticket alottment/putting their student up in the corner.
Sell a ticket bundle that gets a seat for the Temple, SJU and VCU game for $75 or something like that (that price point probably doesn't make sense to make money). Or buy the SJU ticket through La Salle and you have to buy another home conference game ticket to keep their fans away. I don't know, that might keep away our casual fans that love seeing the SJU game every year.

When they first opened their renovated gym, we had to play the game there and never insisted on a return date at Gola. They have the official Big 5 game as the home team this year, and elected to play it on their own campus. There is absolutely no way we should consider giving away our home game. We'll play Penn and Temple at the Palestra this year anyway.

If there was only one game, it would have been St Joe's turn to wear the home jerseys this year.
Since Mr Big 5 Tradition Martelli (you know, the guy who got up on his soapbox for years saying that all Big 5 games should be played at the Palestra) didn't want to give up his "home game", he gets his game at Hagan. What I'm hoping has happened is that since La Salle-St Joe's should be playing each other twice a year for the foreseeable future, the schools have reached a compromise and agreed to play one game per season at the Palestra and the second game at alternating campus sites. I would still prefer that both games be played at the Palestra but I could live with an agreement like this.
It would be a major disappointment if both games were played at campus sites every year.

It would be nice if this was feasible. I don't see La Salle playing at the Palestra, but making St. Joe's take a small allotment, or moving their students somewhere. Just doesn't seem like their style. My guess is the game will be @ Gola.

If there was a way to petition the NCAA to count a Palestra game as played on a neutral court (which it clearly is), than I say do it. St. Joe's will have a decent RPI and a win or loss on a neutral court looks better than a win or loss at home.
Screw it, I say do it anyways. That game is a huge thing for our fan base. It's also a huge PR win if we have it at The Palestra. We will clearly be the good guys and we'll be able to lord that over SJU for years to come.
I just love that game at The Palestra so much. I don't know if Temple will have the same atmosphere.
No matter what, I really, really, really want to stick it to Martelli this year. Screw that guy every way possible. He's truly a bad person.

I would play it at the Palestra and control all the tickets and not allow their students any allotment.
I would sell the tickets as a package for the Temple and SJU games since both will be at the Palestra as a pair for $65 and promote it as a Big 5 Tradition package. Imagine if we had 7,500 fans to their 500 in that building.
I wouldn't care as much about this if Martelli wasn't such preacher about the Big 5 tradition and the Palestra when Nova wouldn't play them there.
I hope they stink this year and we inundate their gym with our fans and wipe the floor with them.

Embarrass them at Hagen, run up the score at Gola and trounce them in Brooklyn.
In a perfect world, the Palestra all the way but, I guess that is not possible. Would we expect anything different from the high handed weasel duo of Martelli & DiJulia? It’s no wonder their fans act the way they do…
Ghost of fish rot from the head down.

Oi. The irony of Martelli, with him seated high above all on his Big 5 Soapbox, has folded again and insisted a game at Hagan...
Always viewed our last matchup there as us throwing them a bone, particularly because we never insisted on a game at Gola, compounded by the ticket allotment issues during that game.
Whatever, there's no moral high road in scheduling anymore. There's no integrity, nor respect for tradition. And there's definitely no one keeping score of who's the bigger man. Bring them to Gola, cut 'em no slack. As much as I'm a Big 5 purist and as much as La Salle-SJU at the Palestra means to me, if they want to change the standards when their program is down, let's watch them burn.

Im guessing that equals 1000 Students, 1000 general fans, and 5500 alum, that would be lunacy. Pi kap should run a beer pong tourney after the game followed by a bus party that drops us off at a hotel of some sorts. Count me in for that. That would make for a hell of a homecoming.

....if they want to change the standards when their program is down, let's watch them burn. Bingo. Speaks volumes. I almost forgot about the ticket issues for that game. St Joe's not only limited La Salle to the 200-250 minimum visitor allotment, but they also never made tickets available to the general public, even though the place only ended up being 2/3 full. I got tickets through my son's friend who was a student at St Joe's then. And they also tried to explain the move of that game to Hagan was because of a scheduling conflict with the Palestra. I was told by someone who would know that that was pure BS.

Think of the game against Florida State during the 1988-89 season or the North Carolina game the season before that. Two of the best La Salle Palestra crowds ever. P.S. And I think the Palestra capacity back then was actually 9,000+, and both crowds were 99% La Salle fans.

Whatever, we've still got Temple at the Palestra, not to forget Penn. And supposedly the prior is a College Gameday matchup.
While I think it's a piss poor decision on St Joes behalf to take a game to Hagan despite G's very public wishes to have both at the Palestra, I don't think it'll be missed as much as we're saying. I'd be furious as a Hawks fan that they're only seeing Penn at the Palestra, no Nova or La Salle. This hurts St Joes more than La Salle, IMO. And I think this going to set a bad precedence for Big 5 and City 6 scheduling moving forward. There was a very unique opportunity available here, and selfishness dictated.

Phil has done more to bring La salle an SJ's fans together than anyone or thing in the past five years. Both fan bases have a common enemy at this point. Martelli.
