That metro rag is reporting today that Hurley turned down 5 yrs for 5 mil at Rutgers to stay at Rhode Island. Let's assume that is correct. Hurley is their first choice. Would they offer G the same deal? I say no. If we know that is the high water mark where does La Salle have to be to make the decision for G easy to stay? 650K, 700K?, 750K? I thought before this fiasco came to fruition that La Salle would pay G up to $600K after the Sweet 16 appearance. I think they would go to $700K if they knew G would stay. Over 700K?......I don't think they do it. BALL IS IN LA SALLE'S COURT!!!I would tend to believe the numbers that Tom Luicci from the Star Ledger reported: Luicci has covered the Hurley family for years and knows them personally. Those numbers are good news for La Salle. I don't think La Salle can compete with $1 million a year but should be able to offer G something close enough to $700k that he would stay.

I really don't think you can reasonably expect G to pass up MOST jobs in the "Big 6" conferences. However, Rutgers is one I don't think he'll want to use his chance on, especially not this year. I think he knows one more good year at La Salle (which by all accounts should be next year) and he can get a much better job than Rutgers, at which point we'll have to accept the fact that there's no objective reason to stay at La Salle instead of going to a decent job in a great conference for a lot more money. I agree with you that you can't reasonably expect him to pass up most jobs in the power conferences. I really think if he truly wants to move up, he should stay another year at LaSalle. I legitimately believe that consecutive appearances in the NCAAs for a program like LaSalle would open even more opportunities for him. Even if LaSalle is one and done next year, it won't go unnoticed at all.

You guys are as positive as a Mike Rice practice. I think you have to be more positive than "make it and see what happens." It's not a given that a deep run could happen, but it "could" happen given that (1) teams that are battle tested and have been there have pretty good odds to succeed again, (2) 3 senior guards can make a huge impact in the tourney and (3) next year's team will have talent (when fully healthy) on a level comparable to this year's Shockers. Could is not a guarantee or a high probablility, but it is a possibility based on 1-3 above. I'm just envisioning next year, if we get in as a 10 or 11, and lose in the first round, hearing a bunch of" This team took a step back this year" like anything less than an Elite 8 is a failure. Just being realistic. Thankfully, "realistic" has become an NCAA tournament berth, as opposed to hoping we make the A-10 tournament, but you get my point.

Unless LaSalle starts the year firmly in the Top 25 and billed as a Sweet 16 team, then making the NCAAs would not be taking a step back. Missing the tourney would be a step back...the NCAAs are all about matchups.

I don't think G will leave this year. He wants a crack at the NCAA Title next year. Bringing in a couple top notch recruits this spring, with that same vision, would let him really "cash in" the following year.
G could take over at Duke in 2014-15 as Coach K is probably getting ready to retire.

Per twitter.... Jon Rothstein ?@jonrothstein
Eddie Jordan is a great PR hire for Rutgers, but his staff will be critical. Needs body snatchers. The Big Ten is just one year away.

It seems Rutgers and Jordan are going to wok on getting a deal done this weekend. Feeling better about this.
Hopefully come Monday Jordan is their man and G gets contract extension here.

Rutgers board now adding that Kansas coach Joe Dooley's name is floating around. He's from my hometown in North Jersey.

Screw Duke. I don't see why we can't get a home and home with the Lakers. Use Kobe's family ties with La Salle.

Looking more and more like Jordan. More from twitter
Jeff Goodman ?@goodmancbs RT @wojyahoonba: Rutgers has offered its coaching job to Eddie Jordan and sides are discussing parameters of a deal, sources tell Y! Sports.
Jeff Borzello ?@jeffborzello A couple of weeks ago, I was told Rutgers was Eddie Jordan's "dream job." Per @wojyahoonba, the school and Jordan are getting close.

I question the validity of Jeff Borzello's tweet. How could it be his "dream job" if he turned it down before in hopes of landing another NBA job?
Either way, I hope a deal is worked out with him and this ends any "G rumored to be going...".

Am I the only one who vividly remembers how badly Eddie Jordan crashed and burned in his single season as head coach of the inept 2009-10 Sixers (27-55) ?

I imagine he's old enough to know the difference between possessive and plural too. I wouldn't be so sure about that. He's 48 years old and Mommy is still home schooling him. Maybe that's on the lesson plan for next week.
