Priority recruit this Spring Staff really liked him.
Penn State transfer Demetrius Lilley has committed to La Salle, per source.
A skilled 6’9” post + product of @aceshoops/@phillyprideaau, Lilley projects as a focal point up front for the Explorers. Has 2 years to play after averaging 2.8ppg/2.7rpg over 2 years in Happy Valley

Lower Merion kid. Seems more like a big body than a finesse guy but not enough tape to tell.

Averaged a double double all 3 years at Lower Merion. Didn't play much at PSU. Was a 3 star recruit. Hopefully he blossoms here. Good to see us get a commitment!

A very nice HS resume. If what I read is correct he was runner-up Pa Mr Basketball his Senior year. Like those HS stats. Need to see Coach D get him back on track.

explorertown.proboards.com/post/139615demetrius is one of the four big men i mentioned in the post linked above that i hoped dunph and his staff were going after. the staff went after him hard a couple years ago in their first recruiting class. he has filled what may be la salle's biggest need. quality bigs are hard to get. now we have some legitimate low post depth for next season assuming rokas and efstratios will be on the roster. he had some very good offers out of high school. he's also grown to 6'10". www.on3.com/db/demetrius-lilley-33976/recruiting/115698/interests/i am thrilled with this committment. welcome demetrius.

Seems like a great pickup. Obviously he didn’t play much but his KenPom profile is great and he comes at a position of incredible need. Seems like a great move for all parties.

Very informative. Like the attitude and as pointed out by you and others looks like a lot of potential there to address major sore spots found with last years squad. Maybe this acquisition will making staying more attractive for some of the guys we are hoping will. For me I would love to see another year of Brickus, Brantley and Shepard in particular.

My aging eyes first read this as Demetrius Henry - also a 6-9 transfer - and I wondered how he had any eligibility left.

I've never understood why LaSalle didn't take advantage of the many "Big Man" camps run around the country. You can't consistently win in BB unless you have a good big - both defensively and offensively. Demetrius appears to be a player who could really benefit from one of these, and cost does not appear to be prohibitive. Here's an example: bigman.camp/2023-elite-camp/

I like it a lot. His eight game stretch from the Purdue game until he was injured tells me he was productive in limited minutes against Big 10 bigs, including Edey. Looking forward to what he can do here with more opportunities.
Welcome home big fella. The last LM Ace to play here improved his stats substantially after transferring to 20th & Olney. Hope he you show up early and work hard on campus to make your stats EXPLOde in 24-25!

La Salle of course struggles more to get them than Dayton. They've tried.

Based on the article, it appears that he was out of shape and Rhoades had to push him to lose significant weight. Hopefully Lilley continues to stay in shape and contributes. He's another big, but right now, he's an unknown.

DJ Burns Jr. is the exception and not the rule. Burns is listed at 275, but he's easily over 300 lb. and carrying that type of weight isn't good for him.

Another article on Lilley from Sports Illustrated. It adds some interesting perspective. It's clear he'll need a lot of one-on-one work from the LaSalle staff. He's a 'project' that needs a good tune-up. If a camp is out of the question, the staff needs to bring in an outside big coach on a very part-time basis for all of the bigs on the roster next year. Our low post game needs to improve dramatically. Hope is not a strategy. They need to act on this. www.si.com/college/pennstate/basketball/penn-state-mens-basketball-demetrius-lilley-mike-rhoades-2024-season

They need to act on this. www.si.com/college/pennstate/basketball/penn-state-mens-basketball-demetrius-lilley-mike-rhoades-2024-seasoni saw demetrius play a few games in high school. he was a legitimate 3 star recruit. i would not call him a project. i would say he's a legitimate a10 big man who would have been better off not going to a big 10 school. if anything, he just had to get rid of the baby fat and get in better shape, which he has done. he also got caught up in the middle of a coaching change and fell behind a couple guys on the depth chart that the new coach brought in. i give him credit for trying to make it work last year. if you think that dunph will be adding a part-time big man coach to the staff, i've got some swampland in jersey to sell you. that's what the staff in place is there to do. it would not surprise me if one of dunph's many coaching connections would come in to work with our bigs on an informal basis but they're not hiring anyone else. as far as that article goes, it was written by a college kid who probably knows less about basketball than you or i.

Lilley looks to have good hands and feet. Not overly athletic. I will take a big man with good hands and feet.
Very interesting to see what happens next. We only have 2 scholarships and we have 4 players still in the portal. We desperately need guards.

I found the youthful Max Ralph's SI article about our new recruit honest and factual. Demetrius is not in HS anymore. He did not live up to expectations at Penn State. That being said, I'm rooting for him to excel at LaSalle for the balance of his career. We desperately need a productive big in the low post.

We desperately need guards. i have to believe at least one more player won't be returning (read between the lines with the lilley commitment) and feel confident the staff will be able to add at least 2-3 more perimeter players who they expect to contribute next season. still plenty of time.
