I have to find the halftime media stats to do 3pt rate, but they completely abandoned what got them a 10-point lead when they shot two threes over a 12m stretch. The 1 of 7 down the stretch was playing catchup.
i don't know what it is with la salle coaches and their refusal to make zone defense a regular part of their defensive package. doctor g, ashley, and now dunph are all enamored with man defense and allergic to zone defense. they continue playing man even after it gets shredded regularly. if there was ever a la salle team that could benefit from playing a lot of zone, it is this one with our undersized guards and a frontcourt with limited athleticism. at least last year we had the twins along with josh and mamadou who had the size and strength to hold their own against the bigger guards and other a10 bigs, but even then, you need to have a couple zone packages available just to change things up when teams go on runs. this year's team should be playing much more zone than they do. don't get me wrong, our zones aren't great, but yesterday and a few other games this year, it helped us win. down the stretch yesterday, the switch back to man defense allowed greer and x brown to take it to the rim at will after they did next to nothing earlier in the game. like haze said, they ran the same thing almost every time down floor down the stretch.
yesterday was not one of dunph's better days.
