Patiently waiting for Deadspin's counter offer (Are they even still in business?) Technically its like double yes. Yes, Deadspin still exists and yes the writers who resigned from Deadspin have all former their own site.

This would be the best thing to happen to the athletic department and the school in ages. People would know who we are.

So no quid pro quo, straight cash donation, you'd say no? I'm not the President of the University, so I don't get to make the decision. I know in the grand scheme of things what I do doesn't mean a damned thing, but the day La Salle went into any kind of business with Dave Portnoy or Barstool would be the day I stopped donating to the University, following any of the sports teams or any of that. I guess in your hypothetical it would be just a straight personal donation of money, without any sort of "The baseball field is now sponsored by Barstool Sports" etc. which would be a different animal I suppose, but I guess I just don't see Dave Portnoy as an altruistic guy. I think he might have a slightly bigger wallet to donate to the school from.

He's a huge piece of shit and his company is an actively harmful to the culture, particularly in the targeted harassment of women. A bunch of barstool dipshits named "Southie Sully" sending tweets to school officials calling them the c word would solve precisely zero of our problems. If that means I'm triggered so be it. Fuck Dave Portnoy and Barstool. "Huge piece of shit" Good solid facts. Well Cited. "His company is actively harmful to the culture" See above note "targeted harassment of women" See him appointing a female CEO (a while ago) Well, hard to prove anything you said here wrong. Just a billionaire (or close) wanting to save a baseball program at a school with no money. Certainly, that would be a very very bad thing.

Businesses also constantly adjust to the new environment... and the ones that don’t change with it die.. La Salle had no business offering the most sports in the A-10... We are not a public school where taxpayers can foot an overcharge... Current team is righting a whole bunch of wrongs.. Doesn't seem like it to me. You said in another post that "Baseball has been on the chopping block since I can remember. La Salle has wanted that land for other purposes for quite sometime." If that's the case, cut womens' softball and then there would be valuable acreage freed up. Same thing with Kirk. Cut womens' water sports too, and then you can do an unrestricted reno of Hayman/Gola/Trustmark. If you need to whack more mens' sports for Title IX, cut mens' rowing golf and cross country. If you are going to right things ... do it right. Don't do a half-assed reset. Softball land is not what they wanted.. They have wanted DeVincent field for other uses for decades now

Methinks it will be interesting to see how much of the costs savings from the elimination of these seven sports -- at least in the short term -- is initially " reallocated " to the men's and women's basketball teams budgets in order to achieve / accelerate " lift-off ", under the calculus that a dramatic improvement in La Salle's A-10 Conference MBB and WBB rankings status will generate enough additional income (e.g., TV revenue, A-10 "units", NCAA "units", ticket sales and team merchandise sales ) for the Athletics Dept. to more than make-up / restore any temporary deficits of ( and possibly substantially enlarge ) the team budgets of all of the remaining men's and women's non-revenue sports ( a/k/a " a rising tide lifts all boats " strategy ). View Attachment Maybe WBB but NOT MBB or those holding out hope that this a going to improve facilities. Go to the "Frequently Asked Questions" pdf. It's a SHOCKER. I have not commented on this earlier. La Salle WANTED and NEEDED that many sports. The BOT for decades approved them. The main reason was to draw students. Why was Football initiated? Because the school was looking to increase enrollment especially with males....can we say that today? Study I saw quoted school having any type of Football drew about 150-200 more students than a comparable school without football. Recently we established Water Polo. Same purpose to get some butts in the seats by offering a sport. As for expenses related to a sport like Softball. They took ONE flight every two years to St. Louis. They used to fly to Dayton but that ended about the time when Darnell Harris won the three point shooting contest. Reason I bring that up is I was told the team was getting "high fives" and congratulations in the airport because people saw they were from La Salle. Since they no longer fly they take a 12-13 hour bus trip each way. They no longer play in Florida ( parents and fundraising covered a lot of those expenses). Early season games are now bus trips to NC, SC or VA. As for the land debate, there are drawings of future use property behind the Hospital. Softball was going to get a slight "facelift". I hope that meant improving the area behind home plate that had yellow caution tape to "protect" people from literally rolling down the hill. How no one got hurt there is a minor miracle. Fordham parent (Skrepnak) ripped the school on social media. Track was supposed to get some sort of course to run that would help with XC ( few would believe where these kids run now). I believe there were plans to help Shot Put. Finally Baseball was going to see the weeded parcel of land cleared and a facility built.

I sent emails to the AD, Chief of Staff and President. It has been 3 days and not one person responded. Rumor has it that the tennis program is trying to organize a town hall meeting with the AD. They are waiting to hear back from the department. Social media is on fire with LaSalle cutting sports. Someone posted a for sale sign on LaSalle Business school. Others are posting why did la Salle spend money on a new baseball field. Someone posted a pic of a retirement home built on tennis courts. It is getting out of hand.

It's been clear for some time now that the school needs money. I wish the people rallying to save the sports being cut had raised funds before the sports were cut. I hope that at least some of the sports can be saved by this support by why do we always have to wait until something bad happens to donate. Our school needs to raise money, we all need to help now. Every little bit helps. Our Alma Mater needs us!

Baseball has been on the chopping block since I can remember. La Salle has wanted that land for other purposes for quite sometime. That is the one sport I am not shocked about one bit. I feel like it was saved when I was there...wonder if there was some benefactor money there. Was wearing my La Salle mask at home depot today and ran into a guy wearing the same one. His son plays baseball for La Salle and he told me about this site that was setup to donate to save the program. He told me they all wished the University had told them the program was potentially being cut so they could have a chance to get parents and alumni engaged in trying to save it before just announcing it was eliminated. I get that timing-wise, it makes it tough to attract recruits to a program on the ropes, but I understood his point as well about wanting an opportunity to keep it going. Anyway, here's the link. According to the text in it, if the program isn't saved, donations will be refunded. www.gofundme.com/f/save-lasalle-baseball

Wonder if that will have to be a yearly goal? 3 days in they're at just $7502

Speaking of baseball. This was an interesting tweet from September 4th, talking about the goal of Brian Baptiste being "to build this program back to its glory". What a difference a month makes.
