Kale just said on the broadcast, it was nothing controversial and he wasn't run off the team. Then noted something like 674 players transferred in D1 hoops last year. How many of those 674 left with 3 games and the conference tournament remaining? Exactly and were a huge piece of the team. Most were probably hardly on the court at all.

My point, which I guess has to be spelled out for you, is that...yeah...there are lots of transfers in college basketball...but, how many left before the end of the season when the season had 14 days left? Dismissing this as "business as usual in college basketball" is ridiculous. Business as usual is waiting until the season is over, or after first semester for eligibility reasons.

If he went to Ash and told him that he was going to leave last week...should Ash ask him to play or build with the guys that are going to be on the team next year?
Seems like a lot of people just want to be angry at the 20-year-old.

Seems like a lot of people just want to be angry at the 20-year-old. I’m not angry at him. I’m just confused on the timing of it. He clearly has to make a very difficult decision that is going to effect his life trajectory moving forward so I’m sure it was thought out. Just wondering why he didn’t play out the year. Kind of sucks

Not playing the rest of the season makes zero sense. My feelings are it is disciplinary related.

My feelings are he has a phobia related to the number 59 and couldn’t handle reaching that many career games at La Salle so he decided to restart the clock elsewhere.

Kind of sucks As you said, it was a very difficult decision that was thought out. So that says to me that he wasn't happy and couldn't take playing on the team anymore, for whatever reason. He thought it out and he did what he thought was best. It's unfortunate that things didn't work out here. Good luck to him. I hope he finds peace wherever he goes.

It all sounds like FAKE NEWS to me... no one announces their intent to leave until after the season unless they leave mid-semester.

Seems like a lot of people just want to be angry at the 20-year-old. It's not about being angry with him. It's about being frustrated with a program that a lot have felt under-performed in league play this season (SBU win aside which was a really good win), and scratching their heads as to why a guy who was possibly the MVP of the team and a key piece of the puzzle for the next two years would be leaving...and the way he is leaving took supporters by surprise. Despite some the examples you've found, it's highly unusual for a starter and statistical leader to leave with so few games left...and I don't think we've seen it as La Salle. There were rumors in the stands and in the Hideaway tent all year from people close to the program of one or two players probably transferring after this season. Ed wasn't one of them. So people are taken aback a bit, and are right to question why and whether it is a symptom of something else going on in the program.

Some could say Aaric Murray was the MVP of the team in 2010-2011. Him leaving was the best thing to happen to the program and he was a nut (to put it very nicely, unfortunately). Few if any here knows what happens behind closed doors. It's typically better that way. We are 1-0 without Ed vs. a top 5 conference opponent. We were 4-11 with him. Let's just shut up. Move on. And win some more games.

I am trusting that should the rare instance arise, that if a transfer comes knocking on our door who was an MVP level major contributor on his team, and who left his team a couple games prior to the playoffs that we do some extra due-diligence. It would be quite "bad business" not to from where I sit.

He was instrumental in getting the team to the NIT and growing those young guys. Fun fact: La Salle and Kentucky were the only teams to not lose a game by double digits that year. Impressive.

Hey, the kid did attend 3 high schools, so 2 colleges would be a change in that pattern.

Impressive. exactly. without earl helping to lead the 2011-12 team to the nit, the 2012-13 team probably would not have been as successful. i've always been a big fan of earl and was told he was an even better person than player.

diehardexplorer you are correct. A phenomenal guy, great teammate, just went about his business always caring about others, very kind and easy to get along with. Soft spoken but a great competitor.

Say it ain't so, Joe. Clearly this must be "FAKE REAL NEWS". I was messin' with ya all. The REAL news is that Ash is on the hot seat for the first time since his bad start last season. He has to do a masterful job of recruiting and get us top of the A10 talent so we can finally win the damn A10 championship...and make a deep NCAA run. I don't think anyone is content with one or 2 wins above .500 in the next few years. This week forget about Super Tuesday/Thursday and Focus on a Wonderful Wednesday with another win.
