This team is going to drop a game it "shouldn't." That's almost a given. But that won't somehow neutralize last night. I'd rather beat these guys and lose to say Duquesne than beat who we "should" and lose to Butler last night.

the loss at Bonnies fells more and more likely with each of their games. They won @ TU and SJU and took XU to the wire at home.
That is going to be a very difficult game. in reality the only games I feel great about are Firdham and Duquesne, and even those make me nervous a little bit.
Just beat VCU....though, they have 1% chance of that happening.

So that's two top 50 wins, let's get number three tonight. That is exactly what I am thinking... This should move them into the top 50.. So we are 2-2 against the top 50 now Wins over Butler and Nova and a losses to Miami and Bucknell

Don't be fooled Temple and Joe's are still good teams and I believe the Owls will still get an at large with Joe's being just behind finishing with 20 wins counting the A10 Tourny. I believe we will get in with 22 wins but probably will win 23 games counting the A10 Tourny. Nova I believe will still have a very difficult time because they have a number of tough oad games to go. Truth is we don't really know how good VCU, Butler, Louis., Cuse are till near end of season but it is safe to say all four are top twenty-five teams. What a season with wins over Dayton, VCU, Butler with Temple and Joe's down the road. They will be trying to upset us instead of the other way around. Look for Miami to make final four because they are that good.

How high of a seed must La Salle get in order to play in at the WFC? At least an 8 right??

We should actually go out and focus on pressing and trying to tire these backcourts out as they are not as deep as ours...

Nova winning absolutely benefits us though so I can't complain too much. We're still a big story, and any talk about La Salle is better than what we're used to. The Temple game will present us another chance to have the ESPN and national types talking about us because Temple is a national brand. Like I said on the VCU game thread, we control our own destiny. Don't take any bad losses, and we'll be dancing.

If the Explorers beat Temple and St. Joe's they win the outright Big Five title. Excluding the Massholemino-induced 2-game years in the '90s, the outright Big Five winner has gone to The Dance 18 of 20 times since 1970. The exceptions were 1980 when the Brooks-led Explorers beat St. Joe's for the ECC championship and 2001 when 'Nova, in Lappas' last season, went 4-0 in the Big Five but 8-8 in the Big East and 18-13 overall for an RPI of 48. Win the Big Five for a ticket to The Dance. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Big_5en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Coast_Conference_(Division_I)statsheet.com/mcb/teams/villanova?season=2000-2001

It will be very difficult to beat St Joes and Temple. St Joes always gets up for Big 5 games and Temple is Temple. I would not call us the favorite nor would I consider it an upset if either team beats us. LaSalle is going to have to use what it has learned about winning close games because i think both will come down to the wire. Would love to see G beat Dunphy.

We have the personnel and the talent/depth advantage in the backcourt against both teams but these are talented teams that have either been unlucky or just presented with bad matchups.. In total, do not under appreciate these teams

Bottom line is this, need to just keep winning, especially at home because home losses kill your RPI no matter the opponent, and grab a couple key road wins. I like our Road scheduel and think it's conducive to getting as many as 5 wins in the A10 on the road XU TU GW SBU URI Those are all winnable games on the road, particularly the bottom 3. The first two are most difficult but I like the matchup with XU, even though they ahve the revenge factor going from last year, and Temple is a Big 5 game and a team we played tough both times last year, plus it's a Big 5 game where anything can happen. The high-water mark for this team is probably 12-4 in the league, the low-likely # in my mind is 9-7, I think we come somewhere around 10 or 11 wins. It feels like the progression of the program and the visibility are going to lead us to the "First 4" as a selection, hopefully they get themselves off that bubble and squarely in. Would be great to see them play at the WF Center and actually have a big crowd support, because I think even those not-affiliated ith LS but local would be on board, plus we'd have the underdog factor. If not, let's go out west and play UCLA because that would just be awesome. In the end, if we miss the big dance and are back in the NIT it would be mildly disappointing. So with the loss to Xavier and wins to Butler and @vcu.. How does your forecast change?

Win every game. We can lose to Temple, but beating every team and Temple will give us Top 25 ranking. Temple and St. Louis are the most important games left on the schedule. 23 wins in the regular season and the dance is safe. 21 wins and we need two wins in the A10 tourney.

We should win every game left because we're better than every team we play. That's not a slight on the remaining schedule, and we certainly could lose 2-4 more games because the A10 is so deep. But its time to stop being pessimistic. If we can accomplish what we were able to over the past year - 21 wins last year, and all we have accomplished otherwise - then we can win out. There's no reason to believe we can't.

UMASS is a must win. Just so I'm clear, below are the must wins: UPENN Charlotte Richmond Dayton UMASS GW Fordham St. Bonas St. Joe's URI Duq GW St. Louis Following games can be losses: Miami Xavier Butler VCU Xavier is very beatable but January's schedule is brutal. I'm expecting road losses at Xavier and VCU; Butler is out of our league at this point. If we have 22 wins by the end of conference play, the A10 tournament will just solidify a higher NCAA seed. 20 wins and the A10 tournament will be critical to get into the Dance. Just out of curiosity how do you define must win. Does losing the umass game put us out, I disagree umass is a decent team, that is not a terrible loss. I still think LaSalle has a shot at a bid with the loss, but its time to get back on track.

Just a back-breaking loss. It's the type of game that a tournament team wins - getting outplayed most of the game, have a lead at the end - you HAVE to steal that game. Man, we are not in a good spot now.

What about road SLU? That's a way to earn more than we left on the table tonight as well as at Xavier & Charlotte.SLU is the must win game in my eyes.
