Me too...Went to the strangest concert pairing ever.. The Brooklyn Bridge and Iron Butterfly at Wister Wow, that is a strange pairing.[/quote]

Best wings ever. If you told Peaches she was looking good, she always threw a few extra on your plate.

Here's the state of affairs at 20th and Olney (from a meeting I was in this week):
- La Salle Apartments and St. Teresa Court have been sold - Arts and Sciences Dean is leaving - going to TCNJ - Business School Dean is interim - no Athletic Director - no Registrar - no legal support - all the department has left - no Head of Development or Assistant Head of Development - 10 faculty members taking early retirement packages - 381 incoming freshman as of May 16th - significantly below last year this time although the average incoming GPA is higher
On a positive note, the Charter Challenge $10M campaign has raised about $9.8M, and the Day of Giving raised $1.3M. No mention of arena project.

See that freshmen class number. A lot of consolidation going on....see the PA State University system includes the selling off of properties. College enrollment in a downward trend. Troubling situation. Contrast that against the NIL goings on.

See that freshmen class number. A lot of consolidation going on....see the PA State University system includes the selling off of properties. College enrollment in a downward trend. Troubling situation. Contrast that against the NIL goings on. Some interesting stuff in this article. Almost makes a case for D2 or D3 and bringing back certain sports to save enrollment. La Salle will need to figure out how to pivot in this landscape which is going to require a mindset shift in the administration and BoT that has traditionally always done things the same way and digs in its heels when people propose changes. www.vox.com/the-highlight/23428166/college-enrollment-population-education-crashPrivate colleges are even more vulnerable. Many have small financial endowments and get by year to year on tuition revenue. Unluckily for them, private colleges are disproportionately located in the Northeast and Midwest — the same regions that will be hit hardest by declining enrollment. When they shut down, they leave a void of employment and tax revenue that local communities can’t easily fill.
At colleges that survive, as most of them will, the biggest effect of the enrollment cliff will be on how students experience higher learning. Administrators will be hustling to give them new reasons to turn down that $22-an-hour warehouse job. Sports will play a growing role. The biggest athletic schools in America, measured by the percentage of undergraduates who participate in a varsity sport, aren’t the Division I behemoths you watch play football on Saturday afternoons. They’re the Division II, Division III, and NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) schools that are most vulnerable to an enrollment shock. If you loved playing field hockey in high school, the chance to play for the national champions is a powerful draw.

I can't even imagine a solution for them to pull out of this tailspin. ☹️ They need to try something. From what I've heard about the past 5-7 years, a lot of things have been proposed but have been shut down because of both the gravity of the change and the fact that it would cause unrest amongst decades of institutional lifers. I've heard that some of the problems rest with the board (which is still too big). Some of the problems rest with older, consistent donors that the school needs. But until those people see the freight train about to run over them, we'll just continue the slow march towards insolvency.

Yeah, the status quo is not working ad hasn't worked for a long time. That is why is asked about this President earlier. Some may think it is still early but time is running out to get this stabilized and turned around.

Some may think it is still early but time is running out to get this stabilized and turned around. You have to give him a couple of years. He's only been here for 1 and it's hard to create change that quickly. That the Head of Development was asked to leave after 3-4 months tells me he means business and is going to drive changes. I think the biggest challenges he has are the financial issues and a BoT that is set in its ways and doesn't really look hard at the data or competitors to execute on changes. Things move very slowly at 20th and Olney.

No mention of arena project. The cuts look like standard changes when a Pres moves out. The fund raising seems positive. Would you agree Glitter since I have no recent comparables to measure this against? IMO the arena will be one he could be judged unfairly on especially if he makes the tough decision to pull the plug on it. He didn't manage an idle asset for years but he will be judged for the outcome. I saw what was planned and I don't think it will move the needle on the program or the financial metrics flowing from it. I don't see the benefit of taking on that debt in a high rate, low enrollment market and in a place that is viewed by many as an increasingly risky place to send your children. He's got some hard choices and some tough BoT sessions. I don't think you change horses, but I am not optimistic that happiness will ensue (from him or a Superperson successor). My only longshot hope is that Fran can coach guys up, land a few more and produce a winner.

Yes and no on the changes being standard. The Head of Fundraising was hired by him and started in January, so that's a quick turnover...and off given there were positive fundraising results, but maybe he was looking for more on the arena project and the funds weren't raised? No clue since nothing has been communicated about it.
There's been a lot of turnover in key positions in the school over the past few years...hard to build culture and continuity when that happens.

I understand the concerns around the arena renovation and AD projects given previous promises but it’s happening. It’s been stated by the president maybe 4 to 5 times publically. It’s also not just the arena itself.
If anyone thinks for a second this going to be some 35-40 million dollar new arena they should get that out of their head. If you’re disappointed by a 20ish million dollar reno that includes a complete remodel, new locker rooms, new fitness center as well as a couple other smaller things I don’t know what to tell you.

In the New World Order of college baskets, might consider using the funds for Player Acquisition. Lipstick on a.....approach might not cut it. Between the proverbial rock and a hard place. 35-40 million for a new arena in Philly? who you kidding on that one.

The project will feature amenity spaces, bicycle parking, a fitness area and outdoor courtyards accessible to residents, Duquesne students and the greater community.

Say it ain't so....no more "Frank & Wally's" on Forbes (long gone).....footnote, my wife attended Duquesne back around 1970. By the looks of this it is a trend of farming out student housing/dorms. Duquesne back a dozen or more years ago purchased Cricklewood Hill Apts, that was about 16-18 stories, right literally on campus. Next thing you might see is a connector over Forbes to the campus/arena on this new venture. Helps to be on a bluff, although the Hill district was fine back in the day. The Dukes even brought back football. Ghost of the Sheiks.
