Theneumann64 may be the biggest Temple hater, MisterD the biggest Villanova detractor and Coachd hates the refs. I am proud to say I hate Saint Joseph’s of Penna. In no particular order and some tongue in cheek…
- Has there ever been a fan base in the Big 5 more obnoxious and petty? Kick Fordham and La Salle out of the Atlantic 10! Kick La Salle out of the Big 5; Drexel as the replacement! As one poster on this board related, while at a social function he was talking to a City Avenue booster and the booster questioned why would anyone ever want to go to La Salle, and he wasn’t talking about to play basketball. Joey fans love putting on airs, with a constant and obsessive chubby for Villanova.
- The myth of the “Perfect Season,” total worthy of an asterisk.
- 2008 Palestra Whistle Game – Would you expect anything less from their fanbase?
- Their mascot is totally unoriginal, complete with lifeless doll eyes and matted feathers. The constant fapping, I mean flapping, seems more like a nervous tick. Fight song, a shameless rip- off of, “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
- An arrogant coach who looks like a poor man’s Peter Boyle from Young Frankenstein. Phillip weaseled out of playing at the Palestra despite his public pronouncements about Big 5 traditions. Martelli loves the limelight, what else would explain the universally panned, VHS-quality TV show called HawkTalk; dreadful program. All Phil’s local media cultivation can’t save him from his worst enemy – Hawk season ticket holders. They embarrassed themselves by publicly attacking their coach at games and on the internet; this stems from an unrealistic view of their school and basketball program. The Hawks are on a roll now so I guess many detractors are feeling sheepish. Reprieve for Phil?
- Consigliere Tom Hagen Area on Hawk Hill. Our court is named after the greatest college basketball player to ever put on a uniform for a Philadelphia college. Their arena is named for a grossly overpaid CEO who peddled a borderline dangerous, salt-infused, weight loss regimen to unsuspecting house wives.
- Back in the 1990’s, when La Salle was lobbying to become part of the A10, which school stepped up? John Chaney and the Temple Owls. The ever courteous Brother Joe Burke and Bob Mullen publicly thanked TU and SJU(PA) following La Salle’s induction but I have been told from knowledgeable sources off the record that City Avenue actively campaigned for denial.
- While I don’t post, I do occasionally read the A10 board, someone mentioned the ’54 National Championship and one SJU (PA) fan said it did not count because it couldn’t be described as modern basketball. I guess their vacated ’61 Final Four would fall into that category as well.
-La Salle weathered world wars, depressions, recessions, and everything else that was thrown the school’s way over the last 150 years. While they won’t admit it in their publications or website, SJU of Penna. closed its doors around the time of the Civil War when things got rough. La Salle never quits.
- A couple of shitheads erroneously maligned La Salle academics last year on their board. Don’t get me started on SJU (PA) acceptance rates, those numbers ruffle quite a few pompous feathers on HH. So it’s only fitting that after over extending themselves by buying the Cardinal’s Residence, Overbrook needs every warm body they can get.
-Magis ? We don't need no stinkin' Magis. I’ll take the Lasallian values of the Christian Brothers to educate those of modest means together and by association over the Jesuits and their preference for the sons of privilege.
We did this for the Temple game with positive results so please add to this list. The Explorers still have meaningful games to play.
I hope we win on Saturday. I hope we embarrass them on City Line Avenue. Bounce them in Brooklyn.
Never Stop Exploring.

Beautiful work. Basically a perfect balance of legit criticism and just total cheap shot jabs, which is the purpose of these threads. I'm also in favor the use of the phrase "shithead," which is a personal favorite.
How about insisting we're not their rivals, we're not on their level, and then turning around and clamoring about the "Holy War" like they're a pimple on the fanny of Villanova 99% of the time.

I'm also bothered by the FACT that they refuse to realize, comprehend or accept the ACTUAL TRUTH that La Salle is, and should be considered to be, their biggest rivalry. Nova left them in the dust years ago and St. Joe's merely embarrasses themselves with every passing year regarding it at this point.
EDIT - Sorry - didn't read the post above and mine is just a restatement.

We did this for the Temple game with positive results so please add to this list. The Explorers still have meaningful games to play. I hope we win on Saturday. I hope we embarrass them on City Line Avenue. Bounce them in Brooklyn. Never Stop Exploring. LOL. I will go through your statements and give you some feedback. - Many in the A10 want Fordham and, before last year, Lasalle out of the A10. This is because they have been bottom feeders. When teams make any kind of run in the NCAA or NIT, money is awarded to the conference to split - before last year, schools like Lasalle have taken and never given back (20 years of taking). While SJU hasn't had the recent success many Hawk fans would like...anyone with half a brain can see why you wouldn't want bottom feeders in your conference. - I agree - it was a perfect regular season and the most exciting a philly team has been in my lifetime. Many Hawk fans don't refer to that as perfect... - hahaha whistle game? The hawks went to the tourney that year. There is not a single hawk fan who even remembers that game because it was so meaningless to the season as a whole. Even if it was Lasalle's superbowl. Hawk fans may have been saying stuff the hour after the game but no fan base is free of extreme overreacting in losses. I had to think about what this even meant because it is so far removed from my memory. The fact that you seem to have a name for it, speaks volumes. - All Mascots are dumb - ours gets national attention, and a full scholarship to a student who works his or her butt off as a member of the team. Please post a link to the positive national attention your mascot, or really any mascot, has ever received. - Game should be at the Palestra, many feel it was G who "weaseled" his way out of the game. Not going to argue because I don't care enough, or really know. Also, many think that Phil is arrogant and that his show sucks. Welcome to the club. Hawk fans expect more, even if it is unrealistic. We will not accept 21 years without an NCAA appearance. - MIKE Hagan is a very generous alum who initially fought to keep his name off the building. You may not agree with the product, that's fine, but while Gola was arguably the best in philly, the Gola arena is by far the worst in the Big 5 and on par with Drexel. I don't think there is much to brag about there... - John Chaney is a real class act. - 1954 and 1961 were 60 and 53 years ago. No one thinks those games should be vacated... - Feel free to hang your hat on the Civil War times. It's not even possible to be living further into the past. - Lasalle and SJU academics both suck. No argument here. MBA is solid at SJU though. - As a student of both the Christian Brothers and the Jesuits I think they both have a lot to offer. - "I'm also bothered by the FACT that they refuse to realize, comprehend or accept the ACTUAL TRUTH that La Salle is, and should be considered to be, their biggest rivalry. " - this is embarrassing. You can say what you want about the SJU vs nOVA rivalry, some of it is probably true, but you are literally begging for SJU to consider Lasalle their rival.

SJU/Nova is such a great rivalry, though. The Hawklets have won a whole 25 times in 71 meetings. La Salle/Nova, on the other hand, is not a big time rivalry because the Explorers have won too often (more wins vs Nova in fewer games). If we keep consistently losing to Nova maybe one day it will get lopsided enough that we can give that game a special name that only we'll care about. If only Speedy didn't beat the hell out of Rollie every time, maybe we'd already be there. Until then, we'll just have to keep dreaming...

nbcsports700level.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/961405.jpgAnd then there's this gem, oozes class I don't want to hear that G didn't want to play at the palestra. He cares more about the palestra history than any other big 5 coach right now. There is no way in hell he was against having two games at the palestra. He is already in the record saying he would have loved to play the games at the palestra.

You should really worry about your own affairs before commenting on others. Lasalle is 1-11 in the last 12 vs nova. Bug vs windshield very much applies. 4-7 vs SJU. I really don't understand why LaSalle fans get their panties in a bunch about the SJU/nova rivalry? Talk trash about SJU vs LaSalle, but why get all worked up about something that doesn't involve your school in any way? It just makes you look desperate.

Although, just curious, how do you think it looks for a St. Joseph's (of PA) fan to spend their time reading a La Salle basketball message board and getting so worked up they feel the need to register and post?

Getting so worked up? What makes you think I'm "so worked up?" Most of the LaSalle posters on the SJU board feel the need to tell us all about the rivalry with nova, figured I'd stop by and give some actual insight from the other side.

It's a post where we post things we hate about St. Joes on a La Salle message board. Some of those points go back to 100 years before most of us were born. It's really not the place for nuanced discussion. And you know that.
For the record, I'm not in favor of knobbery of any kind on other teams boards, no matter who is doing it.
