Also, what do you think SJU fans would be embarrassed about? Have I said anything that really is embarrassing to my school? "Hey guys, don't worry, I defended our honor on the La Salle message board!" You being here in that context is / should be embarrassing. Trust me.

Plenty of reasons to hate any of the opposing schools in the Big 5 - some of the ones on here are just silly. Trust me.

There is no reason to hate any of the other schools in the Big 5. Back in the day when things were a tad more civil we all cheered for each other except when we were playing each other. One of the things about the double headers at the Palestra is that for a visting team the whole place was cheering for their Big 5 opponent. As for me I wish all of our Big 5 members well, except when playing us.
PS: Drexel too.

I have been going to the Palestra for Big 5 games since 1968. La Salle has always been my favorite for sure, but in the late 60s and early 70s, I admired and liked Penn and Nova (note, this was pre-Rollie and pre-Big East), provided they were not playing La Salle. Back then, I was not fond of SJ or Temple, but my dislike for Temple changed when John Chaney came on board and his teams and players were as tough as nails and a lot of fun to watch. TU also gave us a boost with the A10, so that certainly helped my view of Chaney and the Owls.
The constant, for me at least, was that I never liked St. Joe. Never liked their colors or their lame mascot or the general douchey nature of their fans. I will admit a few exceptions, such as (1) I liked certain players, namely Mike Bantom, John Smith, Jameer Neslon, Bill Phillips and Bob Lojewski and (2) I do cheer for them on the rarest of rare occasions, like when they dismantled Nova and the uber-douche Rollie in 1982 behind an incredible shaved head performance by Jeff Clark and Bryan Warrick. That was an amazing Big Five double-header and I had to give a tip of the hat on that one.
So, there you go, I said a few nice things about SJ, so that should last me for about 20 years. Now, back to normal ...
And one last thing ...
Last year, after our Sweet 16 run a lot of teams and coaches, Jay Wright especially, had a lot of nice things to say about us and our run. Two notable exceptions were Martelli and Lunardi, who pretty much spoke as if they were experioencing the passing a kidney stone when asked about our success. The best they could offer in response was that, in what was a series of essentially close games and close calls, the Gods showered favor on us but were not so kind to SJU down the stretch or they could have had the same outcome. This is crazy on a number of fronts - it's not like we played them at any relevant time in that stretch, or in the tourney, and I guess it wasn't relevant to them that we handily beat them in the regular season and were the better team. Simply that we had an amazing and highly improbable number of coin flips turning up heads. That gives a pretty fair summation of why non-Hawk fans feel that Hawks are obnoxious (and I will leave it at that). Well you know what, eff them and the horse they rode in on. Like Martelli is Wooden and West Philly is Westwood. Right.
Now, they are at the crossroads of a last 4 in or first 4 out and I would like nothing better than for us to stomp them and put them in their rightful place. Let the games begin.

(I'm just kidding, I'll tell you. You know how sometimes you're embarrassed of a fan in your own fanbase? That's how St. Joseph's (of PA) fans would feel if they came here and saw what you were doing. Be cool.) Also, what do you think SJU fans would be embarrassed about? Have I said anything that really is embarrassing to my school? It takes a real douche to come and defend the honor of his school on another team's message board. It's a bunch of faceless people coming up with reasons why we hate sju and why we would love to beat them again. It sounds to me last years run has made some hawk fans insecure. And we know our gym sucks, but we are working on that so go back to your internet hole and keep quiet.

Since Coach G put together a full roster and staff (2005-06) Explorers winning % = 0.527 Hawks winning % = 0.529 NCAA appearances, 1 each Hawks must like mediocrity too...

do you guys enjoy the mediocrity? Since Coach G put together a full roster and staff (2005-06) Explorers winning % = 0.527 Hawks winning % = 0.529 NCAA appearances, 1 each Hawks must like mediocrity too... I find this all to be very funny. In the original post, Hawk fans are hated on because we have an unrealistic view of what our team should be, and thus have been demanding coaching changes. You are right, the hawks have been very mediocre since 2005-06 with really only one solid team - which is why we are asking for things to change. So no we don't enjoy only winning 52.9% of games. Maybe that's unrealistic... Also, don't you realize that other schools posting on your board is part of the rivalry? The thing you all seem to want so much and you are bashing someone involved in it?

Big difference.

Wouldn't a proper analogy be not going to the prom?

You made a post that somehow La Salle's basketball program was mediocre by selectively picking a range of dates and the program's performance, implying that SJU (PA) was anything BUT mediocre. You stated that we must "accept" mediocrity apparently. I countered by taking a different set of dates within the range you selected and demonstrated that if LU was mediocre - as you stated - then by default, SJU (PA) is also Mediocre. You responded by saying mediocrity was not "acceptable" on City Line Ave, again implying that somehow we accept mediocrity at 20th & Olney. I responded by demonstrating that over the course of both programs' histories the winning % is essentially the same.
SJU fans just can't stomach the fact that another small, Catholic institution in the city could also be very good at basketball.

The SJU students chanted "4 more years!" at Mike St John as he took free throws late in another loss to the Hawks in the mid 00's at the Palestra. One of their better burns against us that still makes me chuckle to this day.
Nothing would hurt more to them than chanting "4 more years!" at Martelli as he leads his Hawks to another eventual home loss in the first round of the NIT in front of a 75% full Hagan who paid $35+ a ticket.

Typically they are directly related. Mediocrity is unacceptable on City ave, you tell me what is and isn't acceptable at 20th and Olney. Also since SJU fans hate to lose to lasalle, so we can't "stomach the fact that another small, Catholic institution in the city could also be very good at basketball" ? Again, do you not realize that's what rivals do? I really don't understand the people on this board. People in this thread are basically begging for SJU to consider Lasalle our rival, but want us to be happy with our rival beating us? Do you know how rivals work??

Hawksfan, please address this then - if SJU is so academically beyond La Salle (because literally all of you say that we're SJU rejects on an ugly campus), what's up with your admission rate? Because that's a laughable number, honestly.

For those who are wondering - yes, that's a hawk on a streetcorner eating garbage.

You should really worry about your own affairs before commenting on others. La Salle 4- 2 vs SJU. Fixed your post. SJU is not on La Salle's windshield, they are in the rear view mirror.

Big difference. wouldn't the proper analogy be 60% winning and 60% winning? I think that was the point, that SJU/La Salle only is superior in our own minds, but on paper not really different overall.
