Especially considering we return about 2.5 starters, but then again Lionel's minutes are the equivalent of returning 4 starters who basically never left the floor. No one seems to play the kind of huge minutes like that any more (except Ed Cooley at providence, it seems)

Rasual would be up there. He averaged 39.1 minutes his senior season, 38.4 as a junior, 38.3 as a sophomore and 36.8 as a freshman.

Just for laughs and a terrible waste of time. Who would you like to see replace one of these teams...Rider, Hofstra, Lafayette or Towson?

I'd like to see Buffalo on the schedule some time. Get Manhattan back on. Iona is always solid for the RPI.
Selfishly, I'd love a road game @belmont or @vandy just so I could make a trip to Nashville.
Considering how many Philly guys Chambers has scooped, I bet we could get PSU at the Palestra again.

it's not too terrible - those home dates are atrocious other than Xavier. The Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament is big-time hoops and those will be 3 marquee games they likely play plus games @ NC State and SMU, so 5 of 6 of their best opponents are on the road/neutral and those home games are all pretty much exhibitions. I'd care more if I was a season ticket holder.
Speaking of Season Tix - anyone know if Season Ticket holders are guaranteed admission to the DH with Temple, SJU and Penn?

Well what's more embarrassing, the schedule? Or going 8-5 OOC and 15-16 for the year with losses to NJIT, E. Michigan & S. Methodist when you're freaking MICHIGAN!!?!
I would say it's best to root for M football again this year but.

I'd like to see an SEC team for Cleon and Jordan to have a homecoming game against...I would like to see LaSalle play in different areas of the country that we normally don't get to see.

Seriously, give these guys one trip out west a year. Get a USC, UCLA, SDSU or even USD on a decent year.
Unfortunately the cost of charter jet travel is prohibitive and the leg room on southwest is also prohibitive.
Outside of that, a game against WV would be nice, Auburn would make sense w Adler there. I would also enjoy a 1-1 with some old A10 rivals like Xavier or Charlotte.

A game against Evansville, so we can relive those great moments and memories of MCC basketball.

The Gaels have been a good to very good mid 20 wins team for a while. Nice offensive team, haven't really done well in postseason though. Record last season was 22-10. Finished at 77 in Pomeroy rankings. A lot to like in adding a Christian Brothers rivalry. Do the same thing with Manhattan afterwards.

Loyola Marymount and St Mary's on the West Coast would be nice, but also very costly, and getting a return game means that they have to be willing to come east as well, which means they need another game locally, which makes scheduling even more difficult. Ideally getting to pair up w/ SJU would be fun and maybe do a DH at the Palestra and split the revenues w/ them. I don't know that either school would sell substantially more than half the seats at the P for one game against either team so it could work. Do the DH on a Thursday night and play the other game on Saturday @ the home gym. One flight and one hotel for the road teams.

Martelli won't agree to move even one of the two annual La Salle-St Joe's games to the Palestra. Highly unlikely he would entertain this idea.

Thanks for those that gave me their suggestions for the schedule. I went on rpiforcaster.com and they have a section where you can see how the RPI would change if you replaced a team. I took last year's regular season schedule and made some substitutions (too long to describe). Basically I replace 5 teams from last year with 4 teams( Rider, Lafayette, Miami FL and FGCU. Rowan doesn't count). It came down to me that we keep Miami FL and FGCU. Replace Rider and/or Lafayttte. I considered Michigan,Belmont, Iona and Manhattan since they seemed to have the most discussion. I personally would like to see St. Mary's CA but I have given up on that one. I also thought that Princeton was a tough game but I really enjoyed when we played them especially at Jadwin (Princeton is one of my favorite places).
If we make the actual substitutions on this year's schedule using last year's RPI and SOS. You would have La Salle with an RPI of 103 and SOS of 77.
I was really surprised to see that we actually had the same RPI when we substituted Michigan (103-104)and Princeton (103-105) for either Lafayette or Rider in that order. Manhattan (97-98), St. Mary's CA (95-96) and Belmont (96-98) were slight improvements to the RPI and SOS. Iona actually would have improved the RPI a great deal. Playing them instead of Lafayette would give an RPI of 91 and instead of Rider a 95.
I also used a 50-50% probably of a La Salle win.
So make what you want of this year's schedule. Personally I don't really care anymore who we play. I will say that if we use this argument that we are crafting a schedule to get the best RPI then the end result is getting into the NCAA tournament.
I would also say that the University should use their flagship program to get exposure around the country. I see no reason why we can have the team play a game in Northern CA and Southern CA once every 4-5 years. We have tons of alums in those areas. Same with FL , Atlanta, Arizona, Texas and Chicago. Secondly, I think the players would like it. Not only to spend a little time in another area playing a different team. I know from personal experience kids really want to see how they compare to the names they hear and see on TV.

npoa. Granted there was no big outlier with Michigan's dumpster fire year last year.
I am a real fan of this OOC schedule though. Let the team get into a rhythm 7 games, then give the Villa, Miami and FGCU and Temple. Also smart to keep the team nearby and keep them from getting worn down with travel. Every game but one is within 30 minutes and we do go to FL this year in the only real travel game. 3 games at the palestra is a great pull for G, everyone loves those games.
