You guys seem to be missing that this was the selection committee's masterpiece: They managed to screw over two mid-majors playing head to head at the same time. Dayton by playing a game they shouldn't have had to play and Boise State by playing a true road game in the tourney. It was art.

Boise State has a defense and offense of Cordinator. The head coach does not draw up the play during the timeout.depending on who has tha ball that coach takes control of the huddle. Maybe G should try this. Their offensive coordinator didnt do a great job on that last play call No it wasn't BUT the head coach is actually using his assisstants! Digger Phelps would meet with his assisstant coaches first at the beginning of a time out and get their opinion while the players would sit and drink and get a blow then go talk to them. I think G needs to try a different strategy. He is so busy screaming and yelling that he becomes ineffective. I have no idea if any of our assisstant coaches are any good at X's and O's or game time coaching but it surely can't hurt to give it a try. Any thoughts?

Good luck G is what he is an average coach at best. Seems stubbornly stuck in his ways as well. I know guys on here like him and defend him but he is an average coach at best. A smart coach that knows his limitations would find assistants that could help elevate his team. Leon Rice possibly knows his limitations and uses his assistants to help him. Seems to be working since his first 5 seasons as a head coach he is 102-63.

Whenever I have posted about hiring an X and O coach (like around the time they hired Sean Neal) I get ridiculed.

To get a former head coach to come here and coach an offensive system is going to take $250,000 a year, minimum. Do we have that in our budget to pay an assistant? Call Bob Hurley at St. Anthony's if we do...

Wow. ISU, historically a great rebounding team, killed on the boards 52-37. It took less than three hours for my bracket to explode, but I think everyone else in America, outside of Birmingham, are in the same boat.

I imagine this is the earliest I've ever lost a Final Four team.

Holy Shit. Ron Hunter Jr hits a 3 from 30 feet to put Georgia State ahead 57-56 with 02.8 seconds. His dad the HC has a ruptured Achilles and falls off the stool. Freaking amazing.
They WIN.

Bonkers start to the tournament. Even though the level of play in college hoops can really be iffy, this is the best sporting event in the world.

Yup, it's so good, the power conferences will do anything that they can to destroy it.

So if blowing an 18-point lead over 25 minutes to a better team is a "choke" job, what is blowing a 12 point lead in the last 2 minutes to an unheralded team?

The most obvious reason March Madness is so popular is because of the pools/gambling. But it's also the one true sporting event we have that represents every part of the country. Almost every pro team is in a gigantic metropolitan area. College football isn't a big deal in the Northeast Corridor or a bunch of other places.
But so far today, we've seen:
1) Arguably the most prestigious Catholic university in the country, located in a Rust Belt City, get taken to the wire by a co-op school heavy on tech/engineering that's the fourth most known school in Boston. (My wife has a MA from there.)
2) A really diverse, mostly commuter public university take down Iowa's agricultural-leaning "second" college.
3) Atlanta's commuter state school upset a stict Baptist university for Waco, Texas.
4) Arizona's biggest university crush a historically black college from Texas.
5) A small religious school in Indianapolis that plays in a legendary arena currently beating arguably the most powerful state university in the country.
6) A large state school in a quiet neighborhood in Los Angeles taking on one of the most preppy/rich kid schools in the country, based in Dallas.
7) A Jesuit school in Cincy battle it out with the bastion of the Old South.
It's the best.

The Big12 played the RPI formula to perfection - never went over their heads in the OOC, pumped up their records and then Kansas won, everyone else fell in line, they got a bunch of bids and now here they are with 2 teams losing to "lesser" teams and taking their money that they rightfully "earned" all season by staying home and not challenging themselves.

anyone remember when Charles Barkley was at our game against UAB Rasual's senior year. that was cool...and borderline relevant.

And a UCLA team that gets in based purely on name recognition knocks off SMU. Wild first day.

If you don't think that the power conferences will do anything they can to keep from sharing any of this largess with the smaller conferences, you are dreaming. They could give a rat's hind quarters about the charm and popularity of the tournament as is. It's all about the money.

Once the mid-major allure is eliminated the money thrown at the tournament will decrease and everyone loses. The first day and the mid-majors make the tournament. Not the BCS schools. I would agree the BCS schools will find a way to screw it up.
