We had some good individual moments in the game but as far as a team we are not a good team.

Same old story. G should have played man to man defense the entire game. Also the Explorers should have been pushing the ball on offense instead of trying to play the half court game.

Sadly, as usual we beat ourselves. Rhode Island had a pretty poor second half, but, La Salle beat the team we continually beat... La Salle.
Free throws free throws free throws.

Nobody from AD office pass the word to television folks that Price was having back problems?

We had our high water mark with G. We will be a .500 team with him FOREVER. PERIOD. At the same time I am not convinced any one else could do much better. So you keep G and be .500 with no A10 tourny wins and no post season or give someone else a try. I say let's give another a try. We may land an up and comer who has a system and can relate to young players. I just can't watch this year in and year out for to much longer.

Nobody from AD office pass the word to television folks that Price was having back problems? If he was having back problems he should have been put back in the game. We made the comeback without him so there was not point in him being on the floor even without the bad back.

I thought he made that switch when Zack go two fouls early. It clearly did not work out and he switched back to mam to man. We lost the game at the line.

Actually Price and Roberts shit the bed in this one... each missed 7 shots from the field... cannot happen if you want to win. I get the FT argument though... Jerrell went 7 for 13 from the line and Shuler missed both of his. If Jerrell made a few more and Johnny made 1 then we win. Box Score... espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=400599774

So Shuler gets, what, 2 minutes? What a joke I thought this too. It took too long. And was too infrequent.

So Shuler gets, what, 2 minutes? What a joke I thought this too. It took too long. And was too infrequent. yeah, it was weird to me how he was pulled a couple minutes after coming in. Thankfully he went back in for a decent stretch before he got hurt, which thankfully didn't appear to be anything major. From what I've seen, he's a decidedly worse defender than the other guards (mostly as a function of size and strength). I wonder if G is so hesitant to play Shuler solely because he wants to be able to play an aggressive, switching man to man and doesn't think Shuler can effectively switch onto larger players the way the bigger guards can. However, he presents such an incredible offensive upgrade, IMO. Whether he's hitting or not, the defense has to respect his range and stay stuck to him. JW, SZ & others always have 2nd and 3rd defenders inches away from them at all times with other lineups out there. If Price's back is ok, I'd love to see more of the JP, CR, JS backcourt combo where all 3 are willing and capable shooters.

Shuler has some balls which is sorely lacking in the program.
He is so weak and needs more strength but at least he will keep the defendes honest.
Either way G needs to upgrade the position. It is killing us right now.

Folks we are 13-25 from the FT line in a 2 point game Obviously, foul shooting was the #1 reason we lost. Others: - Some of the most atrocious guard play that I've ever seen in the first half. The multitude of turnovers and absence of any resemblance of a D-1 offense as they gave up the 6-2 lead and fell behind to stay was symbolic of the complaints I've been making about the interchangeable guard philosophy. Careless, sloppy and never having a chance to lead to anything anyway. When you add Stukes, Lewis, Price, and Roberts to G's offensive "scheme", it is vapor. For the great majority of the first 25-30 or so minutes it was was lobbing it in to JW and watching him work. Like a 1 against 5. You saw very substandard offensive coaching and the complete lack of anyone with the ability to go one-on-one (with Price either injured or just way off his game) since they weren't passing well or moving the ball around. I'm sure everyone noticed that by far the most effective passing was done by Zack and even Wright. I'm not sure of the assist totals but I thought they outpassed our "point guard by committee" by a large margin. - I don't think Roberts hit even one shot (only free throws). He and Price probably ended up like 1-15. - We were snakebit on many of the loose balls that went URI's way. So many were bouncing off numerous players and ending up right in a URI guy's hands. I guess this tends to happen when you're not playing well, but I disagree with Howland that most were caused by not boxing out. The ball seemed be drawn like a magnet to them even when they weren't in good position or when it was bouncing out well away from the basket. - Our strategy with 14 seconds left. I know Price had put us into O/T with a three in an earlier game, but he was obviously hurting and not himself. Maybe we should have tried for the quick two underneath and then foul immediately if unable to get a quick steal. Hurley calling for a foul on Price with ~3 seconds left was masterful. I don't recall G ever doing that. - When we got to within one or three near the end we basically had to play errorless ball. This team cannot do that. ............................................................................. Other stuff: - I almost choked on my drink when Howland said La Salle needed to get it to their best three point shooters Price, Robets, and PETERSON. Oh man.......... - Shuler finally got some meaningful p/t. I liked his first three and Howland admired his form. I really wish he'd canned the other 3 and the two free throws. But did anyone notice the way he really hustled for a rebound in front of the URI bench? He really showed quickness there as it really should have been the URI player's ball (maybe it was even a steal). In general, it seems like G finally realizes that we need some reliable outside shooting. I think Shuler, Lewis and Zack (!) were the only ones who hit one.It appears G might use him as a spot up shooting specialist for now. - La Salle could have rolled over when they got down by 15 (or even down 12 with less time left). But they didn't. Zack in particular came to life to join JW. They gave their all. - After seeing us lose close to a first place A-10 team with Price and Roberts not contributing at all is a positive thing. Maybe we can repeat the sweet 16 miracle by winning the tourney. If Price, Roberts, and Shuler can got mildly hot it changes a lot of things. Hate to bore everyone to death, but one final thing. I can't believe Zack got that early foul running into the guy way, way, way back on the other side of halfcourt. I couldn't believe he was incapable of avoiding him. Just unbelievable. {{{ I apologize in advance for this ramblingly incoherent and stupid post }}}

Combined number of assists from our Point Guards (Stukes and Lewis) over the last 3 games (all losses) - 7 (5 of them in St. Louis)

If we are a bad team with Wright and Zack what are we going to be like next year? I agree when the announcer said why doesn't Lasalle ever push the basketball up and attempt an easy basket.

Outside of our inconsistency between awesome halves of basketball and halves / games that make us say "wtf"..
Story of the year in my book - La Salle goes as Jordan Price goes. When he scores less than 15 points, La Salle is 4-8. The wins: Colgate (scored 8), Drexel (11), Richmond (13), St Joe's (6 in 22 minutes). The losses: Vandy (9), Nova (11), Temple (13), UMass (12), URI 2x (4, 4), Mason (2), Dayton (13).
12-6 when he scores 15+. The losses: UVa by 8, American by 2 (OT), @umass by 7, Davidson by 8, @st Louis by 4 (OT), @fordham by .. I can't type how much we lost by.
FGM FGA FG% W 94/222 42.3% L 69/186 37.1%
FGM FGA FG% score <15 40/139 28.8% score 15+ 123/269 45.7%
Keep in mind - this is not to say it is his fault that we lose. I am looking at this more as - we need him putting the ball through the net to have a chance at winning more than anyone on the team.
Wright and Zack combined for 14-20 (70%), 36 pts today. The guards shot 6-27 (22%).

The only thing I can think of is the poor passes and turnovers when trying to push the ball up against St. Louis. That was an awful display. I really, really hope G didn't tell them not to speed it up and push it for that reason.

Just as I thought: Wright and Zack = 7 assists. Entire backcourt = 3 assists. It's probably in poor taste to respond to my own post, but the entire backcourt had 10 turnovers to go along with their 3 assists. (1:3.3 ratio). lol (i gues)

It is killing us right now. MIK, the team had Tyreek Duren last year arguably a good point. And ultimately we had a pretty crappy outcome even when he got healthy. Put him on this team again, how many more Wins? Maybe a couple more? But..... Frankly, I am so disgusted with this O scheme I do not think Guy Rogers himself helps this O with this team that much. UGH, Certainly I could be wrong! Just watching this O we play has become like fingernails scratchin on a blackboard to me. IMO, given the general talent level we can expect to see then using this O is a recipe for mediocrity to put it kindly.

Hurley working that Ref about that pushoff kept the referee from calling it a second time I was at the game and it was right in front of me. The ref EASILY could have and more importantly should have called a second push off foul, but you're right, Hurley worked the ref so hard he was afraid to call it.

Even more important is a bad offensive system to have the point guard deliver the ball to his teamate in the the best possible position since the opportunities are so minimal.

Seeing Bill Murray at TGA was the highlight of the game for me. I'll give La Salle credit for battling back, but if we hit 70% from the line, we win this one. If we hit our season percentage from the 3 point line, we win this one. I was also bothered by the way we didn't set up two shooters at either half of the half court line on the last play to get at least a little closer for a desperation 3. It was disappointing to see they didn't go with any type of set play. Granted I know it's a longshot that we hit something there, but I still think there should have been some type of play.

From what I know they were very high on Stukes last year and his development. He has not at this point lived up to expectations.
