Wichita State. Their fans were super-friendly out in LA last year, both before and after the game. They play a well-coached balanced game. If theses kids wore jersies with "Duke" or "Michigan St". on the front they'd get more respect. Really hoping they beat up some teams again. I'm with you there, I became a fan of them after last year. But I still think they got dogged by the committee, won't make it past the Sweet 16, and everyone will be happy because historically ratings drop hard when a mid-major makes the Final Four.

Changed my mind at last. I'm pro A10 all the way (even though Martelli doesn't care about the conference affiliation) and I'm anti-big least because the schools there care too much about conference affiliation and I hope it all comes back to bite them when they (like Xavier did) continue to lose. I'm ready to swallow my vomit and root for St Joe's tomorrow (and the next round(s), if necessary). It is very difficult to do and I don't think my rooting interest will help them any, but I will be very satisfied if the A10 comes back with some scalps, especially SJU going up against former Big Least programs. A lot of people are not giving Dayton, SJU, VCU, UMass, GW, and St Louis much chance in the first round because of conference bias. I would be happy if some A10 schools prove the doubters wrong again. If so, we will get rewarded, and our 1-1 against SJU and GW will look more impressive than they currently do, and some of our losses will be somewhat redeemed with the satisfaction that at least we have lost to one of the top 32 (perhaps 16) teams in the country. To that extent, if UConn wins, then I will become a reluctant Villanova rooter. This is about Philly being better than the rest of the world, personal dislikes aside.

What's this about Wichita State being downgraded by the committee? They were the fourth #1 seed. Does anyone really think they earned a #1 overall seed, or that it may help them get to the final four? All the #1 seeds face obstacles, geographic hurdles, or bad match-ups getting to the final four, some moreso than others. This is some luck and some based on resume. The local and regional final sites are predetermined, it's not like they can create a new bracket in the middle of Kansas that Wichita State can play in and host other schools from. If they really wanted to host, they could have bid for that luxury. The selection committee did not do them any disservice that I know of. However, in making Louisville a 4 instead of a 2 or 3, they created a situation where Louisville and Wichita State can't both make it it the Final Four. Well, what Final Four team doesn't have to play a 1 or 2 seed anyway to get as far as the final four? There are no free passes to the Final Four, just perceived favorites and perceived underdogs the whole way.

Assuming chalk, Wichita (RPI #4, Kenpom #5) will face Kentucky (#17, #17) then Louisville (#19, #2) just to get to the Elite 8. And Duke (#9, #6) is sitting on the bottom of their bracket. In a perfectly seeded bracket, they'd face #29 in the 2nd round, so drawing Kentucky there is really bad "luck" ... except the luck is human generated. An optimist says the NCAA is trying to maximize weekend exposure. A pessimist says its straight up bias.

I wish we could do anonymous polls here because I'd want to see how the four squares would break out ...
1. Outwardly supporting, inwardly supporting 2. Outwardly supporting, inwardly rooting against 3. Outwardly rooting against, inwardly rooting against 4. Outwardly rooting against, inwardly supporting
The only thing I'm sure of is that option 4 would get zero votes.

Wichita State. Their fans were super-friendly out in LA last year, both before and after the game. . They did try to be pretty nice. Walking out of the game in LA last year overheard one of their fans commiserating with two other guys in La Salle gear saying good game, and where is your school again? One La Salle guy doesn't skip a beat and says with a straight face "Indiana". Guy says oh okay, yeah and then moves on.

With the Jaspers gone, and Wichita State heading home, I'm rooting for Baylor now. I spent a week in Waco for work a couple of years ago - nice town, tons of proud Baylor alums in our office down there. I came home with a Baylor t-shirt that I wear from time to time. Go Bears!
(And yes, I remember the Dave Bliss disaster)

I was there a few times over the last 5 years. The campus has cranes all over the place. New buildings and facilities every where. No wonder their Men's and Women's Athletic programs are nationally recognized.

I hear Real Sports is airing a scathing report tomorrow about academic improprieties at a few schools that made the tourney this year, including Baylor. I may have to reconsider my new-found rooting interest.

Unfortunately there are still some "outlaw schools" in division one hoops that ignore the academic requirements in order to gain fortune for their institution.

In order ... (1) Amida Brimah giving us our runner up prize and dominating St. Joseph's of PA and Villanova right out of the tourney (2) In order: UMass, VCU, St. Louis, GW, Dayton (3) Wichita State, both for the mid-major aspect and because they got completely F'ed by the committee(4) Harvard Always: Upsets I agree. I saw that bracket when they were announcing it and I thought "Holy sh!t, they're jobbing Wichita State." I would love to see them run wild to the national championship. That would be a big FU to the selection committee and all the supposedly elite conferences. Anyone see the similarities between our run last year and Dayton’s run this year. I was never a Dayton fan, but here I am rooting for them.
Both teams seem to catch a break with seeding after the 2nd round, although I don't see Stanford being the buzz saw Wichita St is. .

I actually saw that game where Dayton played UCLA for the national championship. Dayton was actually better the year before when they had Henry Finkel who would have at least sort of matched up with Alcindor but the 67 team made it to the finals with Don May NBA caliber and a bunch of role players. It could happen again who knows.

Dayton looked great tonight. Really shared the ball and answered back whenever Stanford made a run. Good for them.
And you know it is just KILLING the obnoxious Xavier fan base.

Bernadette better be on the phone with them tomorrow telling them whatever they want to hear to make sure the Big lEast doesn't stand a chance to try and draw teams away.
