Hey, I got homesick once on a one month vacation in Europe. I'm not going to rip the kid for missing Mary Tyler Moore land. But he would have had to sit out a year (there wasn't any talk I heard justifying hardship) and he'd miss a possible two year post season run in the NCAA's.

Glad he's back.
Does this mean Vinales is out of the question now?

Now DJ work on that outside shot more over the summertime, raise that shooting PCT a bit next year. Oh and maybe some boxing lessons.

Glad he's back. Does this mean Vinales is out of the question now? We are at the 13 scholarship limit. Would suck for Kyle Vinales if he made the trip to La Salle and DJ came to G before he arrived with his intentions. Bad luck for him. Happened once before I know of. When G was recruiting Christan Standhardinger he has a recruit coming to campus the the same day Standardinger was leaving. Standhardinger commits before he leaves and G had to tell the other kid we did not have a scholarship for him. Recruiting is tough for the kids, coaches, and fans. Dog eat dog.

I had one of my wives do this to me a couple of times. I can't figure out if I was her 4th option or vice versa.

It's a tough decision to make, especially away from home. Sam Mills told us at the banquet that the players cannot get home until August for 2-3 weeks off!
I remember Bron Holland wanting to leave the team (in 1992) and then changing his mind. He hit the winning shot in the MAAC tournament that put us in the NCAA's.

Vinales could come non-scholarship for a year, right? No idea what he comes from (or why he'd agree to it), but I imagine that's the only option left.

It may be just me but I would rather have DJ's length and defense for next year.

I was talking to one of the players saying that Vinales still wanted to come here. I don't know what that means about scholarship or if even we have enough room for him?

Vinales comes from Farmington Hills, an affluent Detroit 'burb. Perhaps his parents can foot the tuition bill (net of any grant $$) for a year until a 'ship opens up? Baker did that for Wichita State IIRC.

Welcome back DJ. Glad for you and us (sorry naysayers).
As for Vinales, maybe something can be worked out. This is a tough business at times.
88, who was the player you mentioned visiting during CS's visit?

My son texted me the news last night. I was stunned, but very happy to see that. I think he's one of those guys that does all the little things to help his team.
It would still be nice if we could get the Vinales guy from CCSU. He looks like a good pick-up. Hopefully he's a good fit and his folks can pick up the tab for a year.

Really happy that DJ has decided to stay. Would love to get Vinales too but I just don't think there's any way he would pay his way for a year. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Final 4 baby! I think he realized that this team can compete for the NCAA Championship this coming season if everything goes well. We have the talent to make it happen.

Honestly, I would've rather had the scholarship back over having D.J. back.
I thought he was going to be something when I first saw him, but he mishandles the ball a lot, misses easy lay-ups too much, and just plays too much like Edward Scissorhands for my liking.
It's OK that he's back, but given a choice, I would've rather tried a new recruit.

I dont know, I do like Vinales but I like DJ as well. DJ is a solid player but this year his role was unclear. He makes mistakes but he also is a sophomore. His job wasnt to get points it was to make those points happen and be a defensive player. DJ rarely took shots and when he did he made them. He averaged .400 3pt which is not bad expessially for a sophomore. i think he still has a lot to add. Giannini needs to work with him more and actually let him take shots and feel comfortable taking those shots.
In terms of Vinales coming here, I doubt it. No scholarship plus Xavier being in the mix make me doubt his decision to come here. Nonetheless he be a valued player that can bring a lot to this team.

You hit the nail on the proverbial head. DJ is an intelligent, unsefish ballplaer, but unless he becomes some sort of an offensive threat, Garland will be shooting more than some of us like. I can see DJ being challenged for minutes by Lewis. He is, for sure, a different type of scoring threat. Defensively, Khalid comes in with a reputation a lock down defender and one that puts the team first. He can't be that far behind in rebounding. It should make for some interesting competition and Vinales couldn't play this year anyhow. I'm glad to see DJ welcomed back though.

I disagree w angryal, but even if I agreed, I would not say so in this forum. DJ was very valuable last year; I think he can and will play better as most juniors can and do. I still don't get why it had to be said coming on heels of tremendous season where DJ was a STARTER.Analysis of a players game is fine- but saying that u didn't want him back is petty and not well thought out.
