Wow. Shocking, to say the least (to me, anyway). Was there any chatter about this before the fact?

Seems to be the one guy who divides this board the most as to what he gives this team but this will end that. Probably sees the PG/SG's G is bringing in and realizes his role will never really expand on this team

Im'ma let you finish, but DJ Peterson had the best landshark of all time.
But seriously. What gives. Felt like he was always on the outside a bit, like he was getting in a bit more trouble than the gang, getting pulled aside by G... All speculation.
So, that's another schollie available... And so Washington doesn't redshirt now, if he can contribute?

Best of luck to DJ. Good kid who made a contribution on the most successful La Salle team since I have been following the program. Will always appreciate everything he gave us.

This stinks. I'm guaranteeing it's a homesick thing. Minnesota's far away. G loved him.

Sorry to see him go and I'm stunned, after the year we just had. I wish him the best.

I will miss his attitude. He had the proverbial "chip on his shoulder" which I appreciated for this team.

durenduren - i didn't think Washington was going to redshirt regardless. I gave Peterson as lot crap on here recently, but for me to act like he didn't make any contributions to the program during his time here would be ridiculous. best of luck to him. not exactly sure what this'll mean to the team for next season though (and what's this about him being "an outsider" )...

Sucks to lose any piece of such a good team last year, regardless of the debate of level of contribution.. whether we like it or not the loss of DJ hurts our ability to play small ball and we were already questionable at the 3... Sorry to see him go, wish him the best. Can't wait to see what G does who the open scholarship, however...

Agreed with this completely. I haven't always been his biggest fan but you can not argue the impact that he had on the program and gave us anything he had. This does open up a scholarship and wouldn't surprise me if this gets sat on or gets offered out to Tyler McLeod on a redshirt contingency or not. However with that being said, the roles are pretty defined for next year's team: 3 spots for 5 players (TD, SM, TG, KL, TDunn) 2 spots for 5 players (JW, SZ, JD, TW, RB) Really it is 4 players for 3 spots, however, that is leaving us slightly thin. Could Rohan Brown swing for us? I do not believe his jumper is nearly on par with DJ's? Front court is fine but we have lost the taller small forward that could try and act like a power forward if we went 4-small. This leaves a very interesting situation to our upcoming roster. Cleon would have been perfect for the role.

Dunn isn't the guy I would have guessed, but I don't want to guess specifically because that sort of baseless speculation seems wrong. I said that last week when someone brought up a potential transfer in the McLeod thread and DJ was absolutely the guy I had in mind (but with zero factual basis). It just seemed like he wasn't going to have shots next year (Garland increased role and Lewis stepping in) and was completely recruited over for his senior year with Roberts. If anything, his role would diminish going forward so its hard to blame him, especially being a non-local kid. Wish him nothing but the best.

Also, this is a pretty big hit to our defense next year. Lewis steps into Galloway's spot, atleast size-wise, but Peterson opens a hole that either gets filled by rolling 2 bigs all the time or going really, really small.

Stukes might be great, but he doesn't seem like a replacement here. That would mean we'd have 6'3 and under playing 140 or more minutes per game.

I think this is a role/PT issue but homesick is a cover that protects all involved. Maybe we should not worry about players from Minnesota, yet to have one make it to junior year

He seemed like the ultimate team mate, just not a leader. I really hope he gets a good place to land. I Have to wonder about Jaylon Bond again, or another kid he has looked at for 13. You would think tha DJ gave G plenty of notice as he appears to be a class act. I hope he lands at a great place where he can get the playing time and academics. Usually a girl is involved-nothing wrong with that.

I'd love to see Stukes be available next year, but is it ideal?
Lewis may fill Galloway's spot size-wise, but what about wing-span? That could be just as important as height...

This will absolutely open up minutes for a high end 2014 guard. I can see G extending these offers now. Before it didn't seem like there was time but there def is now

Mookie in regards to the outsider comment... Spent a lot of time with the team in the last few weeks. Seemed like he was getting pulled aside by G often for off the court small things, in terms of "meh" behavior things. I know G holds his kids to a higher standard than we probably ever see, but maybe this factored in. Again, speculation. And you're probably right about the Washington thing, I guess this sets it in stone pretty much.
All the best to DJ though. Has to be tough walking away from a Sweet 16 team. Going to miss his defense, that's for sure. And coachd, stop being a boob.

Damn! I didn't see that coming at all. I'm pretty disappointed. I liked his game even though he could be a little hesitant on the O end. We'll certainly miss his defense. Good luck DJ.

Stunning. There must be really good reason for him to walk away from a sweet 16 team with big a big upside.

I agree, we will miss DJ and I wish him all the best. He steped in and took Petitis defensive assignments. Not sure who will takenthose over next year. Possibly a different approach with more bigs getting time. I loved his energy and focus.
