Interesting. Do we have another scholarship to offer or do Roberts and Stukes fill out the class?

Interesting. Do we have another scholarship to offer or do Roberts and Stukes fill out the class? We have 1 schollie left... But the next guard rotation is starting to set up barring a 2014 powerhouse Philly guard signing... and it will be young in 2014.. Stukes (Redshirt Frosh), Lewis (Transfer- Junior) and Roberts (Transfer-Sophomore) Roberts is a athletic pure scorer, Stukes can score and pass and Lewis is a quick, defensive stopper All have above average handling skills... Hmm... Sounds familiar

How does G keep finding these transfers! Amazing. Was this a Mills connection?

With all the schools chasing this kid, how the hell did he end up at Georgia Southern? He must be a big fan of D-1AA football.

I was wondering the same thing, then: "Miami native and current Georgia Southern head coach Charlton “CY” Young received a commitment from Miami Norland’s Cleon Roberts today. It has been widely speculated that the 6’5 shooting guard was leaning towards the Eagles due to the hometown ties with Young. 'I’ve known Coach Young since the 6th or 7th grade,” Roberts told sourcehoops.com. “He is somebody I trust that can help me to have a good career and become a better person.'" 173.201.209.230/wordpress/?p=3612

Ah, looks like he's leaving GA Southern because their coach got fired, per their message board.

The benefits of national exposure and a system that fits talented guards perfectly. He had some really good games this year as a freshman, and sometihng like his first 6 or 7 he had double figures in all of them... A little inconsistent, but that's common for a true freshman. In 2014-2015 I really think this kid can be a stub... can't wait!

I know it was mentioned in another thread but major kudos to Molly Gallagher for her work on the behind the scenes videos. G said the transfer was impressed with those videos that showed how much the players liked and supported each other. If you haven't sent Molly and Kevin Bonner a thank you and job well done message it might be a nice time to do that now.
G praised the work of Kevin Bonner. Said the national media was delighted with Kevin's work.
La Salle should make a DVR of the season ( where we don't have rights issues) and behind the scenes stuff. I am sure they would sell. How's $16 a piece?

sounds like a good pick-up. he should help with spreading the floor, so hopefully we're able to land another big man (Bond??) with Wright/Davis/Zach all developing even more.

Someone mentioned Bond had recently visited, can anyone confirm that? I did see a confirmed official visit with Temple is schedule in the next week or so...

I'm curious how he found this kid. It doesn't sound like he had any real connections to him. I don't believe we recruited him out of high school and outside of Mills, we don't have a presence in Miami. So maybe it's Mills??

Possibly the kid reached out to us due to the tournament exposure, plus he seen the behind the scenes videos... just an idea. Seen him on the transfer market, reached out, seen there was mutual interest and rolled from there possibly...

Very possible...it's not that big of a deal, I was just curious as there are no real obvious ties.
Great to have this kid...now if we can shore up the rebounding problem that plagued us, we should be set for a couple more years of NCAA appearance...better start saving money for these trips haha

G has been working the GA-FL territory for sometime now. Will Bailey has recruited the South and I think that's one of his main responsibilites. Also La Salle had an asst. coach from Miami area but he needed to quit. His wife was a corporate lawyer and they needed to relocate back there.
G gave Will Bailey huge compliment with his work with our guards.

I'm curious how he found this kid. It doesn't sound like he had any real connections to him. I don't believe we recruited him out of high school and outside of Mills, we don't have a presence in Miami. So maybe it's Mills?? G recruits Florida pretty hard. He's been involved with a number of Florida players over the past few years, so he has more connections down there than you think. His name escapes me right now, but around 4-5 years ago, the director of basketball operations on his staff was a successful Miami high school coach who I'm sure G has stayed in touch with. Assuming the committed recruit is Roberts, G may not have recruited this kid coming out of high school, but I'm sure he saw him play on the AAU circuit and in some of his high school games on a number of occasions. G was going hard after another Miami guard (DeAndre Burnett) in the same recruiting class, plus Roberts was getting a lot of big time interest before finally deciding to commit to a school with a coach who he had a long term relationship with so G probably didn't think he had much of a shot at him. Forget about the fact that Roberts ended up at Georgia Southern. This kid was a big time recruit. He led his team to the Florida 6A (biggest schools) state championship, he was the Florida 6A Player of the Year and the Dade County POY. He had interest from Alabama, Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, South Carolina, and Western Kentucky among others. Jellybean already mentioned that a big reason the recruit became interested in La Salle was because of the Sweet 16 Behind The Scenes coverage done by Molly Gallagher. He probably watched the games during the run and thought that is a system I could thrive in and then seeing what a closeknit group this team was on the videos got him even more interested. I'm sure all it took then was a call from his high school or AAU coach to the La Salle staff to see if they'd have any interest and G jumped on it.

Thanks for the info. I knew G had been recruiting down there, but we really didn't have an established pipeline. I'm glad to see we're landing good players down there now (Mills & Roberts).

If he's leaving because his coach got fired, wouldn't he be eligible immediately?

If he's leaving because his coach got fired, wouldn't he be eligible immediately? I think that only works if there's an NCAA investigation involved. I don't know if it works for simply removing the coach.

If he's leaving because his coach got fired, wouldn't he be eligible immediately? That happens when you sign out of high school and haven't played a college game. Roberts played as a freshman so he would need a hardship waiver to play immediately. We need him after next year and not next year.

Eric McNelley - Now Head coach at Westminster Christian. Always thought he was hired to help land Cotto and when that blew up he went back to Florida.

Looking at Cleon's shooting %'s, I think they're really impressive considering he's just a freshman.
3's 38.5% on 43-109 2'2 46.7% on 49-105 1's 73.2% on 60-82

Robert's played 9 games which I consider Quality Opponents ( 3 Davidson, 2 C of Charleston, Maryland, Va Tech, Valpo and Charlotte). In those 9 games he averaged 28.6 mins with 10.1 pts per game. FGA's 43.1% on 25-58 2's 48.4% on 15-31 3's 37.0% on 10-27 FT's 81.5% on 31-38 Impressive indeed and he played his best against the tougher competition.

The part to take away from all of this.. He was high major looks because of his offensive ability.. Rivals had him as one of the best scorers in the entire 2012 class.. A weak rebounder and defense are what kept him from getting those offers..

Throw into the mix that he probably had another 15 (give or take) shots that aren't counted here b/c they were fouls (38 FTA is my basis for saying probably 20-25 fouls, some are +1 fouls, some are 1-and-1 and missing the front end) and his shot selection statistically looks pretty good as these were likely not 3PtA so his shot selection is looking almost to be 2:1 2PtA:3PtA which is good considering he can hit the 3-ball but doesn't just jack them up

Would be nice to learn officially that an offer has been made. Better yet that it's been accepted.
