Interesting point about Sienna too... My guess is they would want one more school too.

For the life of me I cannot understand the talk of sienna coming to the A10! Other then the fact the play in a nice public arena they haven't shown much in an inferior conference.

Siena's arena isn't nice. It's an older arena in Albany. But they draw roughly 7,000 a game in the MAAC and they can't get any quality teams to ever play up there. And the school is smaller than La Salle. They're kind of a huge deal in the Capital District, which isn't an insignificant market.
They and VCU would lead the league in attendance.
Siena also went to either the NCAA or NIT six times last decade.
That's a really legit program that would be great for the conference.

The Presidents believe they have the infrastructure to be a consistently talented program.. Also it should be mentioned that Davidson was invited at the moment they approached the A-10 with the nugget that COC does not have to come with them..

Why not add CoC, Davidson, and Siena? It would make for a strong base from NC to New England, making the A-10 essentially an East Coast Conference with roots in many basketball talent rich areas, especially if/when Dayton leaves.
And travel, especially for minor sports, would be reasonable, unlike the insanity in some of the super conferences.

Ah, one is implying that CoC is in some other Carolina? Sorry, I don't acknowledge the heart of secess. Sherman treated the state just about right. And he did ease up in the real state (North Carolina)..

Siena is official, I believe as of July 1st. No other teams have made any kind of announcement.

Agree. A-10 should hold at current level and fish for big name additions next time there is a big shake-up.

I see mixed information on that board. It seems some of them rather stay in the SoCon. Why? I have no idea. The A10 seems like a great move for them. Davidson needs to get out of that subpar conference. The only reason I see the board turning it down is due to expenses otherwise it is an easy pick. Hopefully the SI report is true and they move to the A10.

Nice addition to A-10, a tough opponent, esp. if La Salle has to play at Davidson.
2012-2013--- 26-8, one-point loss to Marquette in NCAA tournament. How's their team look for 2013-2014 season?

So is Siena out of the discussion or can they still get invited? Insiders?

So is Siena out of the discussion or can they still get invited? Insiders? Siena is absolutely in the discussions and will be invited. Siena was not going to join for the 2013 year anyways, it was going to be for the 2014 year so the timing is less important.

Siena was not going to join for the 2013 year anyways, it was going to be for the 2014 year so the timing is less important. Do you know when the timing of Siena being invited will be? Because if it's after June 30 this year then it will affect the exist fee from the MAAC. Had Siena been invited prior to June 30th (and started play for the 2014-15 season) they would have been credited for two year exist fee from the A10. Now if Siena isn't going until the 2015-2016 season then the invation should come as late as next June and still be a two year exit fee notice. I'm wondering if the A10 will wait until St. Louis/Dayton (or Richmond) leave before Siena gets the call? I ask this because Davidson isn't going until 2014-15 so there's no rush for them either. Thanks for the help.

I like the way the A10 is shaping up as an east coast, 1) southern (Carolinas to Wash.) and 2) northern (New England through Pa.) wing. Esp. since Dayton seems to be set to leave soon.
It means, esp. for "minor" sports, reasonable traveling. Not absurdities like some of the real or proposed superconferences.

I don't think Davidson is a bad pick for the league, but I'd be curious to see the blueprint for further expansion. Assuming we lose Dayton and SLU to the Big East, we're left with an entirely East Coast conference of twelve teams. Do we stay at twelve and bring back a two-division format, sending one of the Philly teams or Duquesne into the objectively stronger south? Or add two more out of Siena, College of Charleston, Iona - am I missing anyone? - and make it a 14-team league?

I love it. Great school w/ a great program. It's also not too far from Charlotte. Easy to get in for the non-revenue teams.
Hoping for Siena next. They deserve a bump.

So right now A10 is at 14 - St. Louis/Dayton leave (could be Richmond but let's say Dayton) back to 12. The rumors are the A10 wants 14 teams - so Siena and Charleston next, explorerman? Is 14 for sure or could the A10 even go all the way back to 16 and add Iona and Fairfield?
I know Siena's target date was always 2014 but I'm wondering when the range of dates they could get the invite because it will affect their MAAC exit fee. Unless they aren't going until the 2015-2016 season in which case it wouldn't matter if they got the invite next year at this time. Does the A10 wait until the summer and for the Big East to take Dayton/St. Louis to officially invite Siena and not worry about an extra year on the MAAC buyout for Siena joining the A10 for the 2014-15 season? (deadline is June 30th)?

The A-10 believes 14 teams is the perfect number.
It wants to become a basketball, east coast based centric conference..
Read into that as you may

As a fit, Sienna is much better than Fairfield.
