Nope, that doesn't pass the smell test. If you don't know please don't respond with a passive aggressive approach. Douchebag answers need not apply. But If that was the case Kentucky, Cincinnati wouldn't be able to recruit. You can accept that as the answer but she must have additional roles that the avg fan doesn't know. Maybe G brings her on recruiting trips or she is part of the welcoming committee when recruits come to visit the school. She might have a dynamic personality and sells the school very well. I am just looking for some insight, obviously she is important and well thought of on the sju board. If you can't answer or think recruiting is as simple as having a sound graduation plan we can drop this thread. She's well regarded because, almost entirely for the most part, G has recruited students who take the student part pretty seriously. We get kids who want to get degrees. We've had only one kid under the G era who had a chance to leave school early in Aaric and he and G battled. From some stuff I've heard, his lack of caring in the classroom was a big contributor to all of the nonsense he brought. I know a few faculty members who have taught some of the players. Absolutely each and every single one of them says the players are serious about the classroom. They go to every single class (pending road games) and do their work. The academic staff is constantly in contact w/ professors for assignments and syllabi and teaching guides and the like. Ty Garland was an All-Academic player as a freshman in the ACC. I've heard Sam and Taylor Dunn are also really close to that level. I also believe both of them are some sort of science majors and take lab classes which I certainly avoided like the plague. Ramon, too, was supposedly always really eager to get his schoolwork done and, like the rest of the program, set the tone for that. Garvin Hunt has an Ivy League degree and took actual MBA-level classes. G also had Yves and Steve Weingarten who made a bunch of All-Academic teams. A bunch of other kids who graduated (Reuben G. being one I heard about) also came really close to being in that echelon. Vernon Goodridge also was supposedly really into school and stayed to get his degree before he looked to play professionally. The academic folks are legitimately a huge asset. It's not like we're some state school basketball factory where going to class for basketball players is pretty much optional at best. You have to go to class at a small school and it's not like we offer basket weaving or phys ed or the like. They take the same curriculum "normal" students take. There aren't a lot (or any) professors who are star-struck, even among the ones who are regulars at games. I think the players we get are realistic about their professional basketball chances and they aren't sold on having La Salle get them to the NBA. They know they can play overseas but it's really drilled into them that they have to take school seriously and get a degree.

Didn't any of our guys hear of poly sci? Thank God for that major as I never would have made law school trying to pass sci. and math!. Let Prof. Frank N and Prof Courtney rest in peace. Anyone know how Prof Ken Hill might be?Not a BB guy but he could really play tennis.

It took everything in me to not write a snarkier reply to your original question. Honestly it seems more like you're trolling and I'm not sure why. I think it's pretty obvious to any semi-intelligent person what her responsibilities are. If you can't figure it out, Google it or let it go. Your repeated questioning about her role is tiresome.

I love it that LaSalle is the cool place to transfer to. We owe this team a debt of gratitude. I loved it when I read that Ty chose LaSalle because Dunphy told him he wanted him but G told him HE NEEDED HIM! They came when it was not cool and turned us into winners. I am still on a high. Any chance these kids can play next year?

Any chance these kids can play next year? Yes, if they can get a hardship waiver. If there is a family circumstance (similar to Ramon's) then the NCAA will hear the argument. I also think if a coach is unexpectedly terminated or if NCAA sanctions are about to be imposed, not involving said player, that the player can request an immediate transfer (Christmas may have this opportunity if Syracuse is finally punished this off-season).

Does the uncertainty surrounding G's status cause difficulty with any of these transfers? I have to think it does.

I agree with the sentiment that G is using Rutgers as leverage to get the improvements he needs on and off the court. He's alluded to how talented his team will be next year and another good run opens up much more and better doors for him. It is best for all involved for G to be back next season. He will be here. And so will Jaylen Bond!

G is from the Mid West (i.e. no real ties to the Philly area).
He left Maine after some success to come to La Salle (a bigger city, bigger program, etc.)
Why should it surprise anyone that he may leave La Salle after some success to go to a bigger program?
That's not a knock, just the way it happens in college sports, particularly when you hire someone with no ties to your program or city (Wright was an assistant at Nova as was Ray Barone, Sr. at SJU. Bruiser and Jerome Allen are local guys. Dunphy is local and has a history with Bradshaw and the Big 5).

The guy is a class act and he works as hard as anyone and deserves to get rewarded for the job he has done. I just think he can do much better than Rutgers. That may be an even worse situation than what he faced when he came to La Salle. I have my doubts about how much Rutgers will be able to pay him with all the money they'll be giving Rice and Pernetti as part of their buyouts. And now you have Sonny Vaccaro on his soapbox politicking for all the Rutgers players to get releases and immediate eligibility wherever they want to transfer to, and I can see the NCAA agreeing to that. They may have a hard time even putting a roster together. And then on top of that, they join the Big Ten after next season, where they will get crushed for no less than the next 4-5 years and maybe longer. They will be looking up at Michigan St, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, etc, etc, etc. That is not a 5 year rebuilding job, that may be a 10 year rebuilding job. G is a confident guy and not afraid of challenges, but I have to believe that as long as La Salle bucks up and takes care of him, and next year's team has the success I think they can, he'll have some better opportunites come his way then if he decides he wants to move on. Regardless of whether he leaves now or whenver, I think pretty much everyone on this board would thank him and wish him the best of luck. I know I would.

My prediction is that G won't leave before Tyreek graduates. Better jobs will open up after this coming year. G will be as loyal as possible to his recruits.

My prediction is that G won't still be the coach at La Salle when Tyreek's kid is old enough to play for us. Better jobs will open up between now and then. G will be as loyal as possible to his recruits if you ignore the fact that he recruits every year so he really can't be "as loyal as possible to his recruits" unless he simply hangs around until he's fired or dies.

I don't understand all the chatter about G leaving. There is no legit information anywhere to that effect. When Dunphy or Wright have a good season, I just don't see a similar volume of talk. If we keep talking about it, it may become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Let's drop this and move on.

He will then buldoze blighted properties in Olney, buy Central HS from the city and build a 14,000 seat arena (with alcohol). La Salle will then land 10 top 100 recruits and win back to back national championships. G will then die and resurrect on the 3rd day.

Article on philly.com that Temple just signed a 6'8" power forward from Maryland. Same article says Bond has an official visit scheduled with Temple in April.

ughh...I was hoping he'd come here. I have a feeling that G started to lose some interest after getting Roberts and decided to focus on a high school recruit.

J.Bond would have been a nice pick-up but he was never going to play ahead of J.Wright or S.Zack. Bond is a solid ballhandler and rebounder but I would never expect to see him getting 6-7 rebounds or score 10-11 points per game. He would have played probably 12-15 minutes tops with Wright and Zack his junior year and 20-25 minutes his senior year assuming we land no forwards over the next two recruiting seasons who were equal to or better than Bond. If Davis is solid and Brown improves Bond may actually see very limited time but who knows at this point. What Bond would give the team is a very deep bench but in the long term the schollie would be better used on a four year player. Congrats to Jalen on selecting the Owls if that is his final decision.

can't Bond play the 3???

J.Bond could at times play the three if G would go big but he can't move as quick with his size as someone like Roberts or Peterson on the perimeter. He would be a good pick-up and improve the team but will not be a starter until his senior season (and that depends on other factors)because I can't see G going to two forwards and a center a majority of the time. If Bond should come here he would see a good amount of playing time as I stated above but Temple looks like his destination. If G wants Jalen then that is good enough for me because coach has proven he knows what to do once he gets the players.

In college if your 3 can't shoot it really sets your team back

Bond plays bigger than his height and he could absolutely play in the low block as a 4 in the A-10 and against most OOC.. Bond held more than his own in the Big 12... But with Temple there is more playing time as they are turning over their roster..

In G's system, the three must have the all-around skill set of a guard (dribble, shoot from the perimeter, pass, be able to defend other guards). Jaylen Bond is a good player, but unless he's developed a whole new skill set since his high school days, he could not play the three at La Salle. He could play the four or five when they go with two big men. He was an undersized power forward in high school and I suspect that is still his strength.
I would be glad to have him because you can never have enough good players, but personally, I will be very surprised if he comes to La Salle.

When can you ever have said that before comparing La Salle and Temple.. We frankly do not have a guaranteed spot for him even though I can easily see him getting 20 mins per game And as with Aaron Brown, I would take Cleon Roberts and the 3 years of him over 2 years of Bond even though this is much closer... College is a guard's game and we are just living in it..

It will be interesting to see how Temple's ability to recruit will be affected by the new conference alignment. Especially, with UConn and other defecting over time. I would not be surprised if Temple is already looking at their options.
