With the first home game tonight (!) I wanted to make a dedicated thread for people's thoughts on Glaser Arena, once they've been there. I know some people have taken tours and things, but I mean more the experience once you're there for an actual game. I'm thinking general thoughts, specific nitpicks, things you really like, etc. Figure this could be more clean than just sprinkling them through the game threads.
I'm going Saturday and looking forward to it.

If the power stays on for the whole first game (unlike when it went out in the middle of the first half at the opener of the Hayman/Gola that the young whippersnappers here won't remember), it will be a win. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I THINK it was the opener against Virginia Tech?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I THINK it was the opener against Virginia Tech? That is not correct Glitter. The opening night of Hayman in 1998 went off without a hitch. It was packed and loud and we beat a pretty good Hokie team that night.

OK. then maybe it was one of the early games the next season? I'm remembering power cutting out at around 14 minutes. Also remembering Garrett Bragg being ejected from a game there in the first half, but I don't think it was the same game. Damn...that was over 25 years ago.

Yeah, I remember La Salle had to cancel an exhibition game in it's entirety right after Hayman was renovated due to no electric. Garrett Bragg was ejected for elbowing an Xavier kid (name escapes me) in the back of the head. Blood on the floor. I thought he killed him. Garrett Bragg was a big boy.

The Garrett Bragg game was the most intense one I can remember. Xavier friends and family section was ready to go.

goexplorers.com/documents/2024/11/1/2024-25_La_Salle_MBB_Game_1_Notes_vs._American.pdflooking at tonight's game notes: starting five is demetrius lilley, jahlil white, desean shepherd, andres marrero and corey mckeithan. still nothing official from the school about any of the transfers being ineligible. official capacity of glaser arena is listed at 3,000 (it's definitely a little less but if the jesuits at st joe's pa and fordham can inflate their capacity numbers then why can't the good christian brothers). st joe's (pa) claims 4,200 but it's probably around 3,800 at the most and fordham claims 3,200 and there's no way that holds more than 2,600.

Ironically, the internet is down on campus today (as of 2 minutes ago). Hopefully they get it resolved. LOL

La Salle -6. American is supposed to contend for the Patriot League title this year. This is no cakewalk. They're returning a first team and second team player and weren't hit too hard by the portal. THey will have some chemistry while we are working out the kinks.

I think people will be pleasantly surprised by Corey McKeithan... Interestingly, Dunphy will roll him out in front of Acker and Jones at the point guard to start season.. I am very comfortable with him at PG this season.. Asst coaches around the region really liked as a pick up for La Salle... If La Salle does finish 13th in the A-10, it won't be his fault.. Marrero had an excellent offseason.. It will be interesting to watch out of the gate. As I will say, every year, like years past... Spread offenses will only work if you have the shooters... On paper, Marrero is the best one to return. Corey's perimeter shot will be necessary.

Much smaller than expected (goes only about 18 total rows so you’re very close to the floor) but also much better than expected. Can’t imagine a bad seat unless you’re behind the baskets because of the hoop blocking angles but overall much better experience than before.
Miss having the ability to see stats during the game for the players on the court but minor detail. Bathrooms untouched and can definitely tell there was a focus on the gym itself vs everything else (ie walkway, seeing explorer history, etc). Lots of missed opportunities there and a bit disjointed but again, this is much better game experience than before.

Great halftime tour by Ash with Kale. Nice looking crib. And it looks SO MUCH better now on TV with the corner shot looking in at the shootarouind.

Perfect! Other than the noise level. Can the music not be turned up louder? Pregame and in-game. Whoever is in charge of that needs to do better. I hate the awkward silence, only thing lingering from TGA. Students need to do something other than look the part and make some noise as well other than foul shots in the 2nd half. All in all it’s a beautiful arena.

Very nice. It will also get loud in there. You could tell at big parts of the game it will be.
I thought there would be a full concourse somehow. Having fans walk behind the basket at halftime to use the bathroom and to get to their seats if they come up the wrong entrance is a bad logistically but there’s probably not much they can do. I was looking for a bathroom at halftime and wound up almost walking out on to the Olney Ave steps, which I hadn’t seen used since the Roman-Neumann 2006 PCL final brawl.
I ran into a guy I grew up with who was on the construction project and apparently there was a flood a few weeks ago and the floor was damaged and parts had to be replaced. Everything looked great though.
Ultimately, couldn’t have asked for much more with staying within the current footprint. Looking forward to seeing it completely full and many more wins in the future.

Just got back. Much to be happy about. Team has potential and may be an improvement over last year's team. Arena looks great, holds the noise in , no bad seats and a pep band! Nice atmosphere and a fellow class of '71er and I both commented that it didn't feel like we were at La Salle. Congratulations to all who were involved in this project. Go 'splorers!

Back from the game. Place is immaculate. Some minor easily fixable tweaks.
Add the stats to the jumbotron during the game showing players in the court fouls and points This was shown a few times during timeouts but not during game action.
Could utilize showing fans in the stands during timeouts on the Jumbotron and volume issues with music and PA announcers.
Not much that can be done but logistically, folks will need to walk on the sidelines and baselines on the floor to get the corner concessions or restrooms.

Place is a huge upgrade and hats off to Ash and team for getting it done on time. Brought some people with me who have been to games over the years and they loved it too
Agree with others that scoreboard needs more stats and replays. They have some other things to work on now, but the main attraction of the court and seating is done...and it is awesome.

Back from the game. The place looks great. Others have touched on the stats not showing, but I believe they were having problems with the signage on the bench side of the court. Probably just a minor glitch that will be worked out. I suspect that's where the player stats will show up once they have the signage working.
One suggestion that I would make on the corner signage is to have the score catty-corner and the player stats catty-corner on the two remaining corner signs. This would give everyone a good view of both the score and the stats.
Some of the other minor issues have been talked about (bathrooms etc.). I suspect some of those things will be done over time as they get more money to put towards those issues.
As far as the flood, I heard that the sprinkler systems went off in a corner of the court. The floor was damaged but they had it replaced and sealed within a week which is impressive.
Major, major props to Dr. Allen, Ash, the donors and everyone who was involved in this project. They really did make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
