If I'm a kid at Virginia I already transferred. But this year is already burned, so you're sitting until next fall regardless.

If I'm a kid at Virginia I already transferred. But this year is already burned, so you're sitting until next fall regardless. So when he resigned it opened a 30-day window where...if the transfer could go through, the players are eligible to compete. I think. But even though, save your year. This was, in my opinion, a scumbag move by Bennett. Who everybody has always contended is the best guy in the world.

I agree with you about his timing. I'm also glad that I won't have to watch them winning games 50-45 anymore.

This was, in my opinion, a scumbag move by Bennett. Who everybody has always contended is the best guy in the world. Oh no way. Good Guy Tony Bennett can't do anything wrong even if he's bailing on his players weeks before tip-off over a situation that's been in place. But those kids whose one shot is the NFL draft sitting out a meaningless bowl game? Really speaks to their ethics.

I will rephrase since my post was deleted. Are you saying, Joe, that someone who decides not to follow through on something they started and committed to many people they were doing, leaving the assistant to scramble to try to do the job is "a scumbag"?

A guy that sells his program to children under the guise that he’s going to be there knowing full well that he was never going to be there. Yes.
Your insinuation is stupid.

"Children"...you mean people ages 18-22? You are the one calling him "a scumbag" without knowing fully any of the details that led to his decision. There are lots of reasons people could decide not to follow through with something they started that they "sold" to people.
Let's say Fran had stepped down in the same fashion...would you be referring to him as "a scumbag", or is it OK because Fran is older?

People knew this was his plan in the spring. It was reported. He did this to make sure his desired choice got the job next. And many if not most of the players who decide to go to play basketball do so before they’re 18. And even if they’re older, they’re still kids who make life choices based on someone not telling the truth.
If Fran did it, I’d say the same thing. At Temple, said he had one more year and welcomed the new coach early. You know, the right way.

Joe, calling the players "children" when we are now in the era where i'm guessing UVa players are making more then their professors is hilarious.
Bennett signed a contract extension the summer through 2030. Do you really think he had some long thought out plan to hire his friend in 2023, sign a contract extension in 2024, and then announce his retirement?
You're calling him a "scumbag" with no real insight into why he resigned other than a Twitter rumor. And there is absolutely no way you'd say the say the same about Fran if he left for undisclosed personal reasons.

Bennett did say this isn't health related. And he didn't release a reason. So he left it open for people (not just me) to speculate. He kinda blamed NIL. Waiting until two weeks before the season starts was a choice. Nothing in the NCAA changed between April and October. He did what he needed to do in order to set the school up to be in the best position with the best players and have his hand-picked coach become the new head coach. All of those things happened. He won.

Not sure that it is in the same class as Bo Ryan retiring in mid December to make sure that his chosen assistant - Greg Gard - would get the job.

It's similar but it came out three months later that he was having an affair with a massage therapist who he may have taken with him to away games.

I go to my daughters soccer practice and miss all the fun. What happened here? In a nutshell, we didn't win the scrimmage (if there even was one), and now the term "scumbags" have entered the conversation in reference to a head basketball coach with no ties to La Salle. Just gearing up for the 24-25 season I guess.

Who knows if the collective made promises to players and went back on them and now Tony has to deal with an UNLV QB situation? I watched his press conference. To call Bennett a bad person (I forget your exact description) is typical clueless fan talk.

If Jahlil White scores 22 points in a scrimmage, but the scrimmage doesn't actually happen, he has to be asking himself "Did I Do That? .................I'll see myself out.
