On what planet is the 8th man on a losing USC team a one and done NBA player. He's a 6'4 combo guard that averaged like 3 PPG. He can't shoot. He was never 5 star recruit worthy, he was never McDonald's All American worthy, and he's not NBA worthy as a 19 year old freshman. Bronny was always A10 level. He's not an A10 stud, but he's A10 level. Put it this way, the best thing about getting Bronny, is that team's NIL fund will be stocked to either retain players or sign other players. It wouldn't be getting Bronny as a player. He is a one and done guy because the team that drafts him probably signs Lebron. If you’re a team on the verge of being a championship contender and say you have the 20th pick or later you draft him. He’s a good player but not a Top 25 kid (McDonald’s) so you’re right there. But he’s Top 150 Bronny is both officially in the portal and declared for the NBA Draft. You know you're not a true NBA player when the decision is transfer to Duquesne or stay in the draft. Lastly, this is one of my problems with LeBron. Forget about the flopping, not playing defense for 3 years, stat chasing, GM playing, forget all of that. I'm 40, Lebron is 39. We're the same age. I have 4 kids, Lebron has 3, I believe. Why doesn't Lebron shut this shit down and tell Bronny what he needs to hear? Tell him that right now, he's not good enough. Tell him he's not an NBA player, he has 3 years to get better and get there. Seriously, as dads, the worst thing we can be is yes men to our kids. LeBron is so busy being a fan boy and cheerleader, that he's failing Bronny in his most important role. Instead, we get "the college game sucks, they throw the ball in the post, Bronny can help an NBA team win a title right now..." It's all bullshit, because Bronny couldn't help USC to a 500 record. It ain't about money. Bronny is a son to a billionaire. Very weird that basketball is even that important here. It's about lessons and being told what he needs to hear, not what he wants to hear. LeBron falls short here. We didn't hear dick about Jeffrey Jordan playing in the NBA. MJ didn't say boo about it. 3 of the 4 players in the transfer portal for La Salle are better players than Bronny right now.

Counterpoint: It would probably be pretty cool to play in the NBA with your kid and this is the path.

Counterpoint: It would probably be pretty cool to play in the NBA with your kid and this is the path. My daughter wants a pony... If said kid is a phenom like Griffey Jr... by all means. If the kid wouldn't be the best player on the 23-24 Explorers, maybe Bronny should be in the gym more than Kobe when he's not in class or eating. The only way he belongs in the NBA is time and development, 3 years of time and development, not 3 months. If Lebron wants to play until 43 like Vince Carter, and Bronny makes himself into an NBA player, it would be a cool story. The Lebron-ESPN tandem, which is driving this story, that's been forced down our throats for 20+ years isn't cool though.

If your daughter wanted a pony and the only possible way she could get one is if you got her one, I bet you would. That's the analogy here ... Bronny isn't an NBA talent and won't be even if tries real hard for another year or three in college. His path is nepotism.

I think we're on the same side of the fence here?

We do, but I also don't overly care that he'll get a shot. No one minds when coaches hire their kids, as if they're somehow the best possible candidates, so I kinda see it like that. He'll be a 15th man in LA for a year or so, it'll be cool for them and then it'll be over.

Wow! That is a real shocker. I know Kentucky fans were giving him a hard time, but I thought his job was safe. This is pretty surreal. So who's replacing him? Ashley Howard?

I haven't been following the Bronny James saga, but I came across a story this morning about him entering the NBA Draft and the college portal.
What specifically caught my eye was the part of the column that quoted "his agent," who spoke on behalf of James.
The last I knew, the moment a college player engages an agent, his college eligiblity is over. Has this changed?

Very weird. Maybe the pressure got to Cal and he wanted to tap out. Odd to stay in the SEC if that's the case, though.

I hear you, and I agree with you about career preservation, it is odd for a guy to take a step down. UCLA Kentucky Kansas Duke UNC Indiana ***After tonight, UConn is on there. Head coaches usually don't leave these jobs for other gigs. But Joe, I agree with everything you said.

The first time I realized how much pressure was on the men's basketball coach at Kentucky was when after winning the national championship a reporter asked Joe B. Hall how he felt and he said "relieved.'

Counterpoint: Indiana St. administration handled the whole situation poorly and had a brutal press release saying Schertz resigned and barely acknowledged his successful run. His St. Louis hiring was in place since before the tournament started and he has a better shot keeping the team together at St. Louis than Indiana St in part due to money and in part due to competition. I agree that the whole situation is lousy though. The atmosphere for the NIT was incredible and now Indiana St is back to where is started before Schertz arrived.

Yeah, I'm sure he needed those two weeks to "recruit" the guys who already played for him for 1+ seasons.

Doug Gottlieb is taking the Wisconsin Green Bay coaching job... it must be a good time to be a basketball commentator.

The best part is he will continue to do his radio show. I imagine he pitched it as I can pump up the program everytime I am on the air.
