Maybe they changed a few 3s to 2s to keep people here from getting riled up.

I tend not to get too hyped up over the recruits. Why? Well...we have the all time leading scorer at Coatesville on the team now in his 4th year, the hype on him and his scoring abilities was fairly large a few years back..including a video posted in his "welcome" thread of a 52-pt game, and here we are sitting in 14th place in the A10.

Absolutely correct. Much more goes into a winning college program. At the high school level a lot of these kids play against inferior talent. I am hoping to get a look at Deuce at the Donofrio Classic in April.

Wasn't a knock on Brickus. He's been a solid player for us as an undersized A10 guard. I'm probably not on the "He has to come back or else this team is in trouble" camp because...well...this team is already in trouble.
My post was more a take on how this board tends to overhype some of the recruits (Dajour Joseph, Miles Brookins, Ayinde Hikim, Moultrie to name a few who got lots of press when they signed) and see them as the next big thing that will restore the program to glory and give us hope, but the results end up the same.

I think "he has to come back or else this team is in trouble" camp understands the likelihood that we are not going to sign 5 or 6 guys in the Spring that are going to be his level and contribute the way he does now. Truth is La Salle only gets better if he and the other top contributors come back with the hope of landing of 2-3 other players that can contribute at a high level for the program next year. The more that don't come back means the more we need to come in and make an impact which may be an impossibility. Brickus is at the top of the list for me, although I am not overly confident it happens.

Overton Banks Thomas Green Duren Are you putting Brickus over any of them? He is Waaayyy better than Amar Stukes. And I didn't go back further than the early 90s.

IMO, Brickus is better than Julian Blanks and I like Blanks. Kid hit money shots but overall Brickus is the better player.
If Jig played his first two years for Dunphy he would have been better than Jermaine Thomas. Right now their careers are similar.
He is not better than the others.
My one regret about Jig was that he passed up shots his first couple of years and maybe that was how Howard wanted him to play. His last 40 games or so under Dunphy he has been everything we expected.

If you really want to cry, we tied up a 5 year Scholly, pushed other players out, and didn't recruit hard at PG because of Stukes. 1801 has a good friend that's a head coach in the Catholic league, he said that Stukes was a reach for the A10, the day we signed him. 1801 has cred.

Back then, I thought he was a reach as well BUT I do recall hearing he also had some untapped potential so I had some hope for him. The other hope was that by landing him it meant a future big recruit. Of course, we know none of that was the case. With all that being said, he wasn’t a player who brought shame to the team. As far as I know, he was a good student and hard worker. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t continue recruiting like a program always looking to improve should.

Yep.. I remember having battles on here with people defending his ability. He was a good kid who had to deal with a lot of stuff off the court. Obviously as we know the program was brought down materially. Decisions like led to G being shown the door. You can’t have someone play that much and touch the ball the most of anyone on the roster and be that limited AND expect success. My asst coach friends were younger at the time and mostly 3rd assistants but could not believe what G was doing at that position.

I complained about Stukes from the start.Glitter and I went at it about him. I remember he thought I was too critical of him. He was in bottom 1/3 of point guards in the A10 at the time.

It wasn't that he was bad... it's that he wasn't any where near good enough to start 102 games and play in 126 as a PG in the A10. A one year stop gap, fine. 2 years, that's a reach. He started 102 games... that's borderline criminal.

If I'm remembering correctly, I was a fan because he protected the ball and had ...I think... a 2:1 assist to turniver ratio...and he drew a lot of charges. I think he played the role he was expected to play, setting up other guys and protecting the ball.
Jellybean and I used to talk on the phone about it a bit and the things he did that weren't necessarily stat sheet fillers but helped the team. Damn Jellybean was a good dude. His insights were always spot on and he knew the game.

Yeah what did Stukes do well? Good kid but we never won with the ball in his hands. That was my biggest knock in him.

The most offensively challenged player I've seen in D1 since that stiff on Oklahoma that Durant and Texas didn't even bother to guard in 2007. DJ couldn't wait to get the ball out of his hands.
