Guards: Jones | Acker | Brantley?
3: Shep | Marrero
4: White | Tunde
5:Lilley |Zan/Milos?
Zan others off bench as they earn time. Decent rotation if it comes together. Could use another big IMO

Zan can't play the 5. I do think another big is coming. White and Tunde can't play the 4.
We are going to play one big and surround him with 4 guards and wings like last year. No true power forward but that is the one position that you can win without in college basketball if you have a legitimate big in the post.
I hope Lilley can give us 6-8 in both points and rebounds consistently. Jury is out.

I highly doubt it would project La Salle to that but it moves us from 13 to 9 in conference.

I highly doubt it would project La Salle to that but it moves us from 13 to 9 in conference. We won 16 games last season (15 without Rosemont)... since there's not any "building for the future," anymore, it's only about win totals now.

I’d take a 9 projection and see Fran coach it up

White is a 2/3, not a 4.. One of the big worries that explorer88 and I have been discussing is the lack of front-court help in the form of a legit PF or just even legit depth at the 5. We are working on that, which could be a read on something. I am encouraged by the reports from Lilley. The advanced metric kids really thought he was underutilized at PSU. Out of HS, he definitely passed the eye test. The big Greek will take up space and rebound, but much more should NOT be expected. And the mystery of Milos, unfortunately, continues and sucks up a scholarship. So, on the roster, we have two legit frontcourt bodies (3rd Milos) more than last year and 1 frontcourt body (2nd Milos), BUT overall, it's still not close to being enough. I, perhaps, view a #4 as more important than 88, but we still have some hooks in the water. Our team does not have the skill set to utilize and succeed at going small. I said this before the season last year and during the season when we were wiping the floor in OCC. As the roster is currently constructed, we do not have it. As mentioned several times over the years, I love the 4-out offense (as @88 is suggesting). I think every school should base an offense around a 4-out set, but you need the personnel. Last year was going to be a train wreck once we started playing average schools. Brantley, Gill, and Shep are all well-documented poor shooters with multi-years of poor shooting data. You saw how teams defended them. They wanted them to shoot. A 4-out motion offense does not work if you can not shoot. The defenders will play very loose on and off the ball and clog up lanes and space, which is why you play four-out in the first place. Defensively, Tunde and Shep got nailed when we played average teams because the average team actually had a PF or big man that had 3-5 inches and 20-40 pounds on them. They just bodied in the paint and pushed under the basket. So defensively, we were compromised, and offensively, we did not have the skill set to take advantage of what we gave up. We lost Brickus, the player who could do something offensively efficient in the backcourt. Acker is a high riser, but the metrics require caution. White is the same. I mean, in the case of White, he recognizes his strengths (he is a great finisher around the basket) and weaknesses and at least does not try to shoot. However, his athletic size advantage gets impaired if a defender plays 5 feet off from him because they know he isn't going to shoot. Still, he has found a remarkable way to score pretty efficiently considering his handicaps. This is all to say that, given the roster's current structure and impending direction, I am not too sure what Dunphy will do to give the team the best chance of winning. This time, it looks a lot like last year, just worse and with more question marks. This is not a takedown of staff; I know they have tried with other recruits and lost out. Several of those recruits would have plugged holes (legit PFs, shooters, etc.), but I would at least be forming a roster with a certain style in mind, so you have a legit chance at success. As of current construction, you are trying to beat teams around the rim without the size, which doesn't make much sense. These last two schollies (really, one scholly) do not change much, considering the current roster makeup. That being said, considering some of the recruits that we are being tied to and their definitive positions (i.e., recruits that clearly only have 1 position), maybe someone else is headed out, which slightly changes the conversion.

That's an interesting perspective on this. A team could say the heck with NCAA scholarship limits and use NIL to fund the student's tuition....like a Rotary scholarship on steroids. Of course...the student loses a lot of protections they have in place now from the NCAA...being hurt, for example, so it wouldn't be in the student's best long term interest to do that. It would allow signing someone who became available late if there was enough in the collective to fund him and his tuition. Would that fly?

from a less informed seat I was getting this impression. I am thinking Jocious would have made this squad a heck of a lot more promising.

Joscius is a big loss. That is why I wanted him back. We are not going to bring in anyone as good as he was playing late in the season.
At the moment we are far worse than we were last year. We need to hit on these last recruits.

Would love to have seen he and Jocious see court time together. Lilley at the 4. This lineup could help us compete with the bigger stronger teams in the A10 IMO

Lilley hasn’t shown he can play a significant role at the college level. I hope he does excel under Dunphy but he is a question mark at this point. We need more certainty on these last scholarships. We have lost 40 points between Brickus, Brantley, and Joscius. We have only added Acker to fill that gap at the moment.
White will help but we need other positions more than the wing.

i would have been happy if rokas returned, but i'm not in the camp that thinks he was a big loss, as least based on how he played here. i think lilley will give us as much or more than rokas did and will be much more of a physical presence. remember, i saw lilley play a number of times in high school and the kid was very good. he can be a very good a10 big man. losing rokas will only hurt if we don't add another big who can help lilley out inside.
if rokas wants to have success at ucf, he's going to need to learn to hold on to the ball and stop playing soft. the big men in the big 12 will eat him alive if he plays like he did here. it's a shame because he has a ton of potential but his passive play and lack of physicality will be a problem if he doesn't adjust. for his sake, hopefully the light goes on and he adds some bulk and develops a bit of a mean streak. if he does that, he could do pretty well because other than his hands, he has the tools to do it.

I remember UNC carrying a half dozen walk ons under Roy Williams. i don't believe there's any such rule about 15 uniformed players. at the start of last season, howard had 20 players on the roster. except for the last couple of years with kids transferring out, penn typically carried at least 17-18 players. not sure how dambrot at duquesne did it, but he has somehow managed to carry 17-18 players the last few years as well.

I don't know if this is the case. I remember UNC carrying a half dozen walk ons under Roy Williams. were they all on the bench at the same time? i found this. see part 4 of the attached link. back in 2022, the ncaa d1 men's basketball oversight committee recommended that rosters be limited to 15 or 16 players so it would align with the ncaa d1 men’s basketball championship (teams making the ncaa tournament) policy of allowing only 15 uniformed players on the team bench for the tournament. i don't believe any action was taken on their recommendation, at least based on some rosters i've seen over the past couple of years. duquesne had 18 on the roster this past season and started with 17 the previous year (per the team picture). howard started last season with 20 on the roster and finished with 18 players. their 2022-23 roster shows 17 players. ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/committees/d1/mbboversigh/June2022D1MBOC_June14Report.pdfgoduquesne.com/sports/mens-basketball/rosterhubison.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

hopefully something breaks soon. based on that tweet from sidelines dayton, the rumored white commitment was supposed to happen early this week but still nothing. i see one poster said it was between la salle and another school. losing out again would be one more disappointment. really need these last 2 roster spots to go to guys who can strengthen the rotation. would be nice if a third spot opened up.

All you say here makes sense to me. I too am feeling (though unproven at the collegiate level) Lilley is going to be an improvement over Jocious. But We still have a deficit regarding bigs, a hole at 4 that I will be pleasantly surprised to see we fill with someone who can bring what Jocious would have. Loved to be surprised here. My gosh, as things appear presently constituted we may seriously miss Jocious's 3 point shooting also.
