Dunphy killed La Salle and other teams with kids like Ryan Zan.
He will get the most out of Zan as well.

Saw on Twitter we just added a 6’7” kid named Ryan Zan. He went to Rutgers Prep, whose head coach is Matt Bloom. Looked like he was going to prep for a year but Dunphy got him for next season. Nice job by Matt Bloom with the RP team last year though...Rolled through the schedule, split with BC, and played Camdem HS tough. With only 1 kid getting any D1 looks (aside from Zan now committing). four players on rutgers prep will be playing d1. in addition to ryan zan, ryan pettit will be a freshman at lafayette this year, 2023 point guard jadin collins committed to marist, and 2023 combo guard cameron piggee got d1 offers this summer from lafayette and njit.

I really like the guys coach is bringing here. He is really building a system- putting together the right pieces to make a program, not just targeting the best available. Someone earlier made an excellent point, that a lot of these types of players were the types of kids that have killed us over the years.

When's the last time we've had all scholarships filled? We will be OK if the injury bug hits, foul trouble, or a kid transfers out over Christmas break. This is refreshing. I don't know how many games we will win, but the days of only having 7 or 8 scholarship players available are over.

We will win a lot more than if Ash was here. Zan looks like a tough player with a high IQ and a little touch. 6'7 puts him as a tweener, but with him and the Drame brothers this roster is incredibly versatile. Zan reminds me a little bit of a Rohan Brown but bigger and a little more refined I believe skill wise but both battle. I believe he had something like 15 double doubles last year which is no easy feat given their schedule and the teams they play. Great get by Dunph.

Am I missing something, but shouldn't Ramos and Mercandino be listed on the roster by now? All of the freshman appear on the roster now, including Zan.

Anyone have any info on how the new guys look in workouts. A brief video showing the Drame twins practicing was released last month. Anything on the other new Explorers.

Jon Rothstein on campus today and his admittedly early guess at the starters are Brantley, Nickleberry, the Drame twins and Jocius.

I'd be really surprised if the Drame twins play that much together but maybe I'm wrong. Last year, they averaged about 22 mpg each but I don't know if college lineup minutes exist anywhere. Hassan started 25 games and Fousseyni the other nine. They both averaged one three pointer every three games. They're 6-7 and not 6-10 too, so really more wing-sized. From the clips I've seen of Jocius, he's more of a stretchy four than a stock five and I don't know if he can defend an A10 center. So there is a world where the twins cover the other team's big and sit on the block, but that's a very 2005 way to play if they're together out there.

I know there is a website where you can look at lineups and it gives the underlying stats. Can't remember the damn name of it and it's going to bug be. I have to imagine they played a good amount of minutes to together looking at some of these game logs and player splits they look to have played a good bit together. On Rokas, agreed on your assumption. Even though, I'm not even sure what an A10 center even is anymore. VCU, Davidson, Richmond, etc. have all succeeded without them so there should only be so many mismatches he has to contend with. He was also a solid shot blocker.

That was a nice article, but I found the one on Ryan Daly even more interesting. I'm surprised he called it a career at age 24 - it seemed like all his maneuvering between schools, etc. was designed to obtain a professional career.

That's incredible. Very short sighted by the school to take that approach, although I admittedly don't know many details- that's very unfair to the kids. It'd be really funny if they just weren't able to field a team because they did this. I'd certainly take Perez- do we have an open scholarship still? He wouldn't have to go far.

While some of their players may transfer, I'm sure enough will stay to field a team albeit not a very good one. Something must have happened for the administration to fire him 2 weeks before the season starts. Whatever it is it can't be because of his record. If they were going to fire him because of his record they would have done it at the end of last season. Whatever the reason it's a shame for the players.

From what's been said, this was the last year of Masiello's contract and they were working on an extension. The extension didn't happen, something happened in between and they fired him. Just bad business all around. Very sad for the players who have been vocal on social media that they aren't happy. The AD statement also made zero sense.
We don't have any open scholarships so any of these guys aren't happening. Perez is going to a P5 school most likely.

I would've just played until I was 23 if I was him.

From what's been said, this was the last year of Masiello's contract and they were working on an extension. The extension didn't happen, something happened in between and they fired him. Saw this on the Manhattan b-ball message board: College Hoops Chat Radio Show @collhoopschat Made calls on Steve Masiello & Manhattan. Zach B is correct - it's about contract (he's in final year) - I hear Steve & AD Reilly don't get along well - when Steve heard her contract was extended, he went to see President about his extension & it didn't go well & Steve was fired. Manhattan has an interim president since the summer. If there’s been tension with the AD and the AD just got an extension, with an incoming president down the road, it sounds as if Masiello figured it was now or never for an extension and the administration chose never. www.tapatalk.com/groups/manhattancollegebasketball/masiello-fired-stores-interim-coach-t5175-s30.html

Rocktop Academy is led by former La Salle player (87-89) Sam Rines (Jr) which if you played youth basketball in the Philadelphia area between 20-50 years ago is really something. I’m sure Dunphy and his dad Sam Sr had a lot of conversations over the years. What is Rocktop Academy though? rocktopacademy.com/

Ejay aka Earle is a Delco kid who is getting D1 interest. Definitely not a low post player. It was an unofficial visit.
