New commitment:
2022 prospect Jorge Sanchez-Ramos has announced a commitment to La Salle. Recently led NBA Academy in assists overseas. Pass-first PG.
From Jon Rothstein
A little perplexing with Jig and Brantley on board.

He looks like a very cerebral point guard. Hard to judge not knowing the competition but love a kid that gets his teammates open looks. Hopefully we have willing shooters as well which was an issue under Ash.

For me the biggie is he can shoot from the perimeter. High IQ, good passer and good perimeter shooter.
Foot/lateral speed will be the question

Bobby Hurley-esque passing. Maybe Rokas can be his Laettner.

Maybe Fran sees a little Pepe in the Sanchez! Great pocket passer.
Would be interested in seeing an international group on the floor at the same time. Practice scrimmages could be
Rokas, Drame, Lucas, Marrero and Sanchez-Ramos versus
Doucore, Drame, Gill (or Shepherd), Nickelberry, Brantley (or Jig).
Tall lineup: Jorge, Nickelberry, Drame , Drame, Rokas
Small lineup: Jig, Brantley, Gill, Shepherd, Doucore

From Jon Rothstein A little perplexing with Jig and Brantley on board. jhamir and khalil can both play off the ball. jorge also gives the team the flexibility to go with a big lineup. this will allow anwar to play off the ball exclusively and not have to fill in at the point. looks like this team has lots of options.

I like what Dunphy is doing with recruiting. Started late but brought in defense and toughness with the Drame twins and added 3 foreign players who tend to be fundamentally sound and who will add some size. I expect Dunphy will be a little more deliberate on offense, reduce our turnovers and demand good defense. Unlike Ash who played too many players in an effort to keep kids happy, Dunphy will play the players who fit his playing style. Young coaches tend to be grateful to kids who they successfully recruited, experienced coaches play the guys who give them the best chance to win. I look forward to seeing good basketball this season. Hard to predict how that translates into wins and losses but we were a hard team to watch last year. I expect it will be different this year. Let's go Explorers!

You hit the nail on the head. I always thought Ash's teams got worse as the season went on...or at best made no improvements in tactical basketball...and it made for a disinterested fan base. I feel like Fran and Joe will be driving improvements with these kids and although my expectations in terms of wins still aren't much higher than last year, I don't think we will be seeing the same dumb things in late February that we see in early December.
As a fan, I want to see kids learning and improving as the season progresses. I think we will see that under Fran in a way that we haven't in a bit at 20th and Olney. That's exciting to think about.

Bayu (sp?) from Netherland to team up with the other kid from Netherland they just offered? Seems like a Dunphy strategy since there will be 3 from Mali, 2 from South America, and 2 from Europe on the team (Bayu would make 3).

Will see if it’s international player, transfer or a late hs commit.

This is true. They are not done trying to add to the 2022 roster. Grant it that point was made to me 2 weeks ago so maybe stale info but I don't think so. We kinda discussed this a few months ago but the landscape of college basketball recruiting has changed forever. Very lucky for us that Dunphy never lost his connections upon his retirement. In some cases, anecdotes recently made to me, they actually grew. Dunphy while "retired" from coaching really stayed active in the scene.

Kante would be a nice edition. Also something about 24 year old grad student going against 19-20 year olds and he certainly could help our young guys. He looks like he'd be good for 12ppg and 8rpg a game which would be great.

Hav never seen him play, but do we know he'll be successful in the A10? The jump from CAA/NEC to the A10 is a big one and he doesn't shoot threes.

We don't have alot of experienced size on this roster. Dunphy may have a role for him. But depends how motivated a 24 yr old is to play a college game.

The CAA/NEC to the A10 is a big jump but I trust Mihalch if he were to somehow join. Given it's late I expect Kanter to make a big jump in conferences as programs are looking for effective late transfers. In terms of scholarships, I think were covered from a guard/wing prospective so I'm not too concerned about the shooting given the returning guards, Drame twins and potentially the international commits can do. If anything I think we need to solidify the frontcourt and provide some insurance if any of forwards/centers struggle. We also are talking about the 13th scholarship. My assumption is 90% of these minutes are already figured out or will be. Don't expect Dunphy to play insanely deep.

No one is a guarantee and I do think the motivation is a big piece that could factor into his effectiveness. But at 24, 6'8 240 and averaged essentially 12 and 8 the last 3 years and also was recruited by Georgia out of high school, I certainly think at least 10 and 6 is doable but 12 and 8 certainly seems achievable. 2 years ago he put up 15p 13r vs Osun at Bonnies and then 16 and 11 against Richmond. Last Year against UCONN he had a very solid game as well. I think he could play, obviously doing it day in and day out is tougher, but he performed pretty well against good teams.

Big strong player who has a ton of game experience. I suspect Dunphy would be glad to get him.

i assume the only way they fill the 13th scholarship is if it's a difference maker. kante appears to fit that profile, would give us a physical presence on the low post. joe m coached him for two years so he knows what he can do. and since he'd only be here for a year, that would open up a second scholarship for the 2023 recruiting class. i'm sure the staff wants to have at least 2-3 scholarships to offer the 2023 class
i assme kante is getting a lot of interest so nil may come into play as well. not sure if la salle can compete in that area.
