I'm pretty sure Phillies legend Dom Brown also posted a video about our baseball team recently. Not sure what the connection is there.
Sad to admit I definitely have a dom brown shirsey somewhere in the attic, I was so convinced he was going to be a star.

Prospects don't make it all the time, but a decade later I'm still confused how Brown didn't.

Those 6 weeks or so he had were ridiculous. I read hes back in the area coaching, so I'm sure he knows coaches/players on the team.

Don Brown was a poster boy for the inadequacy of the Phillies organization.True, he had the hottest 6 week’s of any major leaguer in history of the game😂😂 - But- anyone who knew anything about hitting, knew that his swing was too big and exaggerated + that the pitchers would figure it out. Obviously, they did.The Phillies instructors could never correct it.

I feel like I could go for a while on this one ... Strawberry had a long swing too and it would have taken him to the Hall if not for outside shit. Griffey Jr. too although his was quicker. You can succeed with a long swing, but you can't get yourself stuck in between breaking stuff and hard stuff inside, which is where Brown seemed to fall off. You'd think it would have been on his hitting coaches at that point, because all the talent was there, it just never worked out.
(And also maybe you wonder what effect the lefties who were there when he came up had. Utley and Ibanez were very different swing types and Ryan Howard was Ryan Howard.)

That moment the University President congratulates your amazing start...6 months after telling you the program is being eliminated... "Keep it Going...well...at least for THIS spring"

How's Duquesne's baseball team doing this year? Probably the same record as ours will have next year. Their football team just lost the conference championship last weekend though. Thanks for asking!

Do you think Colleen had anything to do with cutting the baseball team? Or are you angry she didn't save it. I'm confused because I'm pretty sure she's not line item-ing sports teams and is in fact just listening people who's job it is to make these decisions.

That moment the University President congratulates your amazing start...6 months after telling you the program is being eliminated... "Keep it Going...well...at least for THIS spring" I'm proud to say that my nephew ( Archbishop Ryan grad ) Joe Slane ( RHP #35 in photo of 1985 team on right above ) was the winning pitcher of record in ELEVEN ( 11 ) of the Explorers 31 victories that year, which may still hold the record today as the all-time most single season wins by a La Salle pitcher. FUN FACT : Among the teams that La Salle defeated that year was Seton Hall, featuring future All Big East and Collegiate All American catcher, career .342 hitter CRAIG BIGGIO, a game in which Joe Slane struck out Biggio. As you may know, Biggio was subsequently drafted in the first round by the Houston Astros and went on to become a 7 - time MLB All - Star, with more than 3000 career hits, and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. How many of us can honestly tell our grandkids that back in the day Grandpop struck out a Cooperstown Hall of Fame slugger ?

I was curious how many sports Gonzaga had, and from my quick research found they had 16 total (8 mens and 8 womens). They're a similar school to La Salle - Catholic, they have a couple thousand more students, couple dozen more staff - but have nearly 4x the endowment: $308M vs. La Salle's $80M.
I think sports are fun and important - clearly, I'm posting in this hellscape - but I'm not mourning the loss of these programs. If anything I'm thinking how can they consolidate more and put the difference to the programs that will be most impactful for the University.
I certainly wouldn't criticize the Prez for expressing congratulations on the success of one of those cut programs in their final season. I'm confident it's not lost on her that they are playing their last games. Would it be better to completely ignore it like it doesn't exist? I don't think so. Enjoy it while it lasts and celebrate it.

I would surmise that between the annual income from their plethora of NCAA Tournament UNITS every year going back at least ten years and the TV revenue ( virtually every Gonzaga game is televised ), the Zags MBB Program is subsidizing the other 15 men's and women's sports, as well as responsible for generating most of Gonzaga's Endowment.

I was trying to find out how much baseball costs colleges to put a team on the field - Because I was wondering if these La Salle players can manage to raise that much annually, since the school pulled the plug. I could only find the bigger schools' budgets and the lowest one was a little over $1 million - certainly not Atlantic 10 kind of money.
But when you consider they have to pay Conference fees, umpires, buses, hotels, uniforms, equipment, and whatever else it leads me to ask; Can they realistically expect to raise, what, $250,000 a year on their own to sustain the program?
If anyone knows the financial nuts and bolts about that, I'd be interested seeing what they're facing or was this just a one-year "life support" effort?

From numbers I saw, produced by "DIY COLLEGE RANKINGS" the top half in the A10 have had at least a 1 M annual budget, but ours was roughly half of theirs. This data may be a few years old, but I think the number thrown around lately for endowment purposes was an annual spend of 600k to 1.0M... GW 1.35M Fordham 1.2M SJU 1.1M SLU 1.1M VCU 1.1M Richmond 1.0M Dayton 1.0M Rhode Island 900k George Mason 850k Davidson 650k La Salle 590k
Massachusetts 518k St. Bonaventure 518k

Has anyone clicked on Colleen’s Twitter page? She only posts things about athletics? Anything else happening at La Salle besides sports? Is the school that dead? The marketing department needs to do a better job of selling the school especially when the school needs money and students. I did see an article about the new AD but when you read the article it mainly talks about his past, The next president will have their hands full. I have a feeling that this current adm has checked out long before X came knocking

Because of Title IX you pretty much need to double that because they would need to also save softball which is also being cut. That was also part of the baseball team’s fundraising efforts

I'm confused because I'm pretty sure she's not line item-ing sports teams and is in fact just listening people who's job it is to make these decisions. YES she had everything to do with cutting baseball and all the other sports. She loves consultants and used something they did for the school a few years ago. She has said at several gatherings that she is not a fan of the current model. Academic money and a little athletic money. She wanted students that would basically pay more than our current make up. Funny but many of the sports cut were at or near the top on their academic ranking by sport in the A10. Also I find it ironic that 118 (approx) males had their programs cut while approx 58 females suffered that fate. Don't expect some financial windfall for MBB. The letter said that they are trying to build up the female teams. Odd they are getting support when the school stated that the programs being cut did not do enough the financially support themselves. Finally don't kid yourself this was the President's decision.

I can point to several decisions she made unilaterally without listening to people whose job it is to make the decisions. She is actually proud of this and, once, when questioned at an Alumni Board meeting about a controversial decision...said, "It was my decision. I made it. I own it. I didn't need to talk to anyone about it." You don't get the nicknames of "Her Highness" and "Her Majesty" from the faculty if you are a President who listens to the people whose job it is to make decisions.

Not the reports I’ve heard from faculty and staff, but maybe they’re wrong. Talk to the people who planned Homecoming. Talk to members of the Faculty Senate. Talk to the Safe Reopening committee. Talk to some of the people that USED to be on her staff....
