We badly need a basketball thread on here. So, let’s put aside for this thread any uncertainty about will there be a season, will it be a full season, etc. and just talk about what we “expect” or are interested in for a 2020-2021 Explorer team. The abrupt end of last year feels like a million years ago at this point, and obviously losing Croswell kind of suddenly was pretty shocking.
Any thoughts on newcomers, potential starting line-ups, players you expect to make big jumps from prior years, etc.?

“Jig” Brickus will be La Salle’s first A10 All-Rookie team member since Jerrell Wright in 2012

It can take a new coach five years to get his system implemented. We are well on our way and I believe we all will be impressed with outcomes that are ahead of schedule.

La Salle will have one of the fastest backcourts in the nation. I hope they run like crazy.

Hopefully. U are right on Brickus- from what I have seen on his videos- he seems to be a very dynamic player- my only concern is his” listed” height, at 5-11

I expect us to make our jump from the 10 seed back to our rightful position in 8th or 9th. The whole world fell apart when we missed out on the Thursday noon game.

If MBB season moves forward and games are played with no fans in the stands >>> Advantage Explorers?

If MBB season moves forward and games are played with no fans in the stands >>> Advantage Explorers? It's easy to joke about this, but truthfully it might be. Probably just a slight one, but I can think of no arena where no fans will impact the environment less.

Question on the Mid-Major Mailbag on The Athletic.
Is Fordham still in the A-10? If so, why? #RelegateTheRams — Matt D.
I feel like I get some version of this question a lot, so I’ll bite this time. Fordham basketball has been … not great, Bob. Since moving to the A-10 for the 1996-97 season, the Rams have had exactly one winning season, when they went 18-12 in 2006-07. Twelve times in that same span, they’ve won less than 10 games, including last season’s 9-22 mark. Since 1971, they’ve made the NCAA Tournament once, in 1992. Their all-time A-10 conference record? 100-322. Yikes.
Fordham has a smaller budget than some of the top teams in the league. According to U.S Department of Educations statistics for 2017-18, the most recent year available, the Rams spent about $5 million on men’s basketball, compared to about $7.4 million for Dayton and $6.1 million for Saint Louis. That alone can’t excuse how bad the product on the court has been and what a drag Fordham (which finished 245th in KenPom and 244th in the NET) has been on the league. Fordham would seem to fit better in the MAAC or Colonial Athletic than in one of the top non-power leagues.

Does the Hawk have a pulse? I want to see Saint Joseph’s of Pennsylvania go 6-26 again.

Yeah. Unless Villanova is on their schedule a half dozen times that’s a bad take.

I don’t like the kick Fordham out talk since it inevitably leads to the discussion of who else is dragging the league down. So I am happy they are in the league. They are one of our best academic schools, are based in NYC, and are centrally located. Who do we kick them out for - Hofstra? No thanks

Nah. You don't want to lose your presence in NYC even if that presence is Fordham. If they leave, you need to replace them with someone in or near the city.

No rule that the A10 needs to have 14 teams. A10 soccer has 13 teams, because Richmond pulled out unceremoniously. They have to play 8 regular season games and there's always someone on a bye. They had a 5 way tiebreaker to make the A10 tourney. Yes, it's an unwritten rule. Really can't do that to basketball.

First they came for Fordham and I said nothing in protest then they came for La Salle and no one said anything in protest. I suspect we may be living in a glass house here.

Joe that is no doubt true but I fear the stronger programs in the conference see us as closer to Fordham than to the middle and upper echelon A10 programs. The smaller schools need to stick together.

The smaller schools need to stick together. Dont think that’s how it works. That might not be how it works, but I have to agree with las71. Unless Fordham did something really egregious they belong in the A10 just as much as any other school. I've been reading various incarnations of the A10 board since 1997. Over the years, I have read countless "Kick La Salle out" threads. Posters from just about every other school joined in at some point in time and tore our school down. We have no place calling for another school to be tossed out.
