I don't know what Ruben was if he wasn't a point guard. God I hated his game. I saw him as a 2 guard. I'm going to bring up something like this in the off season, but he's my least favorite Explorer in 15 years of being associated with this university. I wanted to kick Gary Neal's ass in April of 2004 for reasons not basketball related, and I hated JWill's game, but Ruben takes the cake. The high dribble, firing up shots at will or dribbling for 28 seconds, the changing of his name pronunciation, forgetting his uniform at the 09 St. Joes game (probably his best game at La Salle)... he wasn't a bad player like a Joelle Jean-Baptiste, David Bell, or Lew Fadipe, but Ruben thought he was a stud, and he never made an all conference team.

He probably could have been solid if he didn't *need* to score. There was definitely some skill there.

When Hayman was constructed it was the biggest mistake in program history. It could have been a suitable facility for on-campus games that would still hold some nostalgia/charm today but the school caved to the Big 5 tradition. Nova did not cave when they were in a similar position 20 years later. Backstory here is that the other programs discouraged LAS from building something respectable on campus? Was this during building of Hayman in 60s or TGA court 1997?

Nice pull D... is Ruben still in the D League?

Ruben did have a good deal of talent, but the critiques of his 'greedy' style were also legitimate. Tough to say what he would have been like if he altered that approach, but now we're slipping into revisionists' history. Good enough to hang around in the D League, though - that's more than most guys can ever say.

I don't know what Ruben was if he wasn't a point guard. God I hated his game. Dribble through legs, dribble through legs, dribble towards elbow, never consider passing, try to shoot, brick, look pissed / dumbfounded it didn't go in. Pretty much sums it up. Drove me nuts.

Nice pull D... is Ruben still in the D League? He never ended up actually playing for them according to Wikipedia- he played in the Dominican Republic instead. Wonder if he had any friendly's against Matt Lopez in Puerto Rico.

Message thread titled "RPI Update" has evolved into NIT & NCAA talk, Facilities (again), G's book, D league draft, and Ruben. Still waiting for an "Aaric Murray" comment.

All these years of us cracking jokes about his book, has anyone actually ever read it? Anyone? No? I have. It's a great book. My brother in law is a former Olympian and a faculty member in Sports Psych. He also continues to coach elite athletes (Olympics and Professional) as a sports psychologist. He is one of the top five researchers in Canada and he says this book made a solid contribution to the field. Good reading, folks!

A discussion about RPI is always, at least implicitly, about postseason speculation; we don't have those conversations in down years. All of that seems premature unless we win both of the next two games, so I'd rather not have the RPI talk just now, though I admit I've been checking it since the URI game. And any discussion on this board has the potential to circle back to facilities - something I avoid, since I don't have the money to do anything about it.

He is one of the top five researchers in Canada and he says this book made a solid contribution to the field. Good reading, folks! I've said it before, we, as a fanbase greatly under appreciate the impact of sports psychology and G's specialty here. J wright credits G with his ability to miraculously nail all his free throws against K state with the positivity and simplicity of using a "magic word" of "in". I hear people downplaying this but it is vital for development and overcoming challenges. It is also one of the reasons we are able to compete in recruiting. He believes in the players and convinces them to believe in themselves by turning they weaknesses into strengths rather than allow those things to impede on their mindsets. My favorite book on the topic is Dr. Bob Rotella's "putting out of your mind". Great read if you are a golfer even though he never was. As for RPI, It looks like Gtown was a big loser this week. That game sticks out to me in a bad way since I really feel it was simply a free throw shooting contest and I didn't get to watch. All I have to go on is the hearsay from other viewers and fans that made it. I think that is a team we beat today with our improved FT shooting and somewhat cleaner play. Umass has made some moves up the list as well which helps us as we match up twice with them again this year. I've got the next two games, umass and @ URI circled as much needed wins to get in the at large discussion. I think the next two wins put us on the radar.
