Cpico I think we already know Roberts and Price are good A10 players because of their freshman seasons at the college level. Washington from watching film clips looks to have solid athletic skills both rebounding and shot blocking with his weak point being on offense but that usually comes last with big guys. Schuler unlike our current players is a good shooter and Stukes looks to me to be the biggest question mark with very average shooting skills and somewhat timid. Comparing current playeres to next seasons replacements is as follows:
Mills versus Roberts - Big advantage goes to Roberts in shooting and rebounding with defense being about equal although Sam is a good defender Roberts size on defense is a big advantage.
Garland versus Price - Big advantage goes to Price in shooting, rebounding and defense. Only advantage T.G. has over Price is taking it to basket but even that is a small advantage because Price can simply out muscle most A10 players around basket.
Duren versus Lewis, Schuler or Stukes - At present huge advantage goes to T.D. who can shoot better than Lewis and Stukes, rebound better than Schuler (not that important) and simply has great experience.
Wright or Zack versus Washington - Advantage Wright or Zack due to experience but I believe Washington in the long run will be better than both because he has great size and he unlike Zack actually has a vertical leap and also moves better than both players on the floor.
My starting lineup for next season would be: Zack, Wright, Price, Roberts and Schuler. (Price and Roberts are teams best players and it may take awhile but it will show by mid season. Washington will get plenty of minutes supporting Wright and Zack.
These five players coming in will easily be our best group of players joining team in one season in a long time.
So keep the faith all is far from lost.

This isn't pro sports and these aren't pro athletes so stop with the blame tossing and constant bitching. Totally different direction... But, IF they start getting paid, does that change this perspective?

Our team wasted a golden opportunity this season. Just threw it away. We NEEDED to follow up last season with a good year - anyone who knows anything about college basketball had to realize that - and of course we were expected to be very good by almost everyone. This season could hurt the program for years to come, it was that critical. We can only hope that Price, Roberts, Stukes, Shuler, and Washington can play. It's absolutely pathetic that at this point in the season we are looking ahead to next year. We are one of the most disappointing teams in the country this season and that hurts. Jesus Christ, enough already. How many times do you need to post the same thing over and over? We get that you're "hurt" and "embarrassed". You think the coaches and players aren't giving 100% effort? You think they're not hurting too? If you do, you're wrong. They'd be the first to admit they haven't played well. And please stop acting like a St Joe's fan, looking down your nose at teams you perceive to not be any good, like St Bona and Duquesne. Those teams have enough talent to compete with everyone in the league. I guess you noticed that St Bona beat UMass by double digits last night and took them to the wire at UMass. Also lost a close one to GW and beat Richmond. And funny how SLU barely got by that horrible Duquesne team, who were also winning at VCU at halftime, and who beat that awful St Bona team. I thought La Salle played well during the 5 game winning streak and the second half of the VCU game. I haven't complained about the refs all season, but they absolutely had that game stolen from them. Sure, they missed some critical foul shots and had some critical turnovers, with at least a few aided by lousy calls (or non-calls) by the refs. It happens. But I rewatched the last 5 minutes of regulation and maybe one call (actually a non-call, DJ walked before he passed it to Zack with a few seconds left) during that span went La Salle's way. It was no wonder they didn't lose in regulation. I know I'm considered an apologist, but I'm going to continue to support them instead of ripping them on a messageboard. Regardless of their current struggles, these kids gave me some of my fondest memories of La Salle basketball over the last couple of years and I'll be forever grateful to them even if this season hasn't turned out the way we'd hoped. They still have a shot to turn it around and do some good things. THIS x 1,000. Very well said. We all know that they didn't play well and the season has been a disappointment but the hyperbole of it being the end of La Salle basketball forever has really grown tiresome. Really, if you are that "sad", "embarrassed", "hurt" or any of the other ridiculous emotions that you are feeling, just stop watching and go away. Come back when things are going better and you can feel better.

They still have a shot to turn it around and do some good things. kjmac - I think you are one of the best posters on this board and I usually agree with most of what you say. But I just have to disagree with you on a number of points. I don't think this team has put forth a full effort on a number of nights. Last night is a prime example - they didn't show up - really can't be argued. Obviously, GW is good (even playing without Savage - one of their key players) and to win at GW would have been difficult. But we got blown out - we just rolled over. I also think we rolled over down the stretch in the St. Bonaventure game as well. I don't think the effort was there against Northern Iowa either. Between games where the effort wasn't there and our veteran team collapsing down the stretch in other games it's very tough to figure out. I don't think Duquesne is a good team (they are 10-9 overall and 2-4 in the A-10) - and yes if we lose to them at home on Saturday (after beating them by 19 at Duquesne a couple weeks ago) something is clearly wrong. We already saw a huge negative turnaround after beating GW and then getting mauled last night. Also, take a look how UMASS has been playing in the conference so far - seems like they are struggling a bit, no? And I've posted before my respect for our players. They have done a TON for our program, both on and off the court. Great kids and very, very thankful for what they've done. But this season can't be described as anything but a disappointment. Look I realize it's not the end of the world, it's basketball. But this is a place where fans come to talk about our basketball team and program - and fans are passionate and want to see their teams perform well - not underperform. Obviously it's not the end of the world, but on THIS forum we are talking about basketball - not about solving world problems. Again, kjmac you are a GREAT poster on this board and I respect your opinion. I just disagree with a lot of what you posted this time.

The comments from kjmac 12 regarding Petersen are off the mark. They do not address is roll on the team, defense, and his shooting. This year he is 25.2% overall and 37.5% for 3's, 21 TOs and 16 steals Last year he was 25.6% overall and 39.6% for 3's, 14 TOs and 30 steals Prior year he was 44.8% overall and 48.1 fir 3'sm 16 TOs and 15 steals. Keep in mind he only had 52 shots in 2011-12 so a few misses can make a large difference in the %. Would you have made the same comment last year when they were winning? Best to control the rage. I believe that you are referring to comments by Heftyexplorer, not KJMac.

Is it the end of the world? Not in the least. I'm still going to watch them. Still going to enjoy them as best as I can even if they play maddeningly sometimes (last night for example). We're a small school. We're not going to be great every year. They've under performed in my book, but guess what? That's life. We all under perform sometimes. I can appreciate them for what they did last year and that's good enough for me right now. Keep it in perspective folks.

So I'll be following my alma mater and team, but just not as passionately the rest of the season because of how it's played out. But I'll still be here. Thanks for your comments.

I think last night GW just came out fired up. and we got steamrolled. Plain and simple. They knocked the team back on their heels and that was that. It happens sometimes. GW is damn good. We're a good team, but not a great team this year. Let's win Saturday and go from there.

kjmac I also have seen Amar on a number of accasions and see a player who is not a particularly good shooter and struggles in close to the basket due to strength issues. He has talent with quick first step but his ball handling are only a little above average and noticed when he plays against quick players his game looks a little slower due to both speed and timidness. Not saying Amar won't be a good player but I would hold off on annointing him ( not saying you have but some others...)as the next T.Duren because they are big shoes to fill. Schuler and Stukes should be a nice battle for point position because after watching Lewis this season I am convinced he is not the answer and should not be considered.

Totally different direction... But, IF they start getting paid, does that change this perspective? Like if they start getting market value paid or just "here, now you can go to the movies and dinner" stipend paid? Former, sure, in the same way I get annoyed at rookies while keeping in mind they're rookies. Latter, not for me, no.

As you mentioned, it might take them a while to gel. Actually, it might take them the whole year, but we'll see. Losing a point guard as talented as Duren is going to be tough, especially trying to replace him with freshmen in Stukes and Shuler (and obviously Lewis will be playing that role more next season as well). Freshmen need time to develop.

I'm looking for Stukes to be a guy who will create mismatches at the point (and capitalize on it) because of his size while also being able to swing to the 2 allowing another PG (ie. Shuler) to play and be effective.

We've gotta be able to talk about losses on here without just everything devolving in to a debate on who's outlook is the purest.
It's tiresome and is just a contest to see who can stroke themselves more. I'll never use words like disgrace or embarrassment, but they are also Division 1 basketball players and I'm not going to make them cry by saying they played a ghastly game of basketball last night.
Not every night is a referrendum on the future of the program, but there are night they play terrible and people are allowed to acknowedge that fact.

I believe that much of our frustration is based on what many of us see is a squandered opportunity for the program and the school. After last year's magical run, we were media darlings and received a ton of publicity. This carried over to the beginning of this season and frankly, I liked my school's team being the big dog in town. I understand how difficult it is for a school of our size and resources to be a perennial NCAA team but I just would have liked our moment in the sun to have lasted a little longer.

This, to me, is the best way to frame that point. It's a missed opportunity, and that sucks. It would have helped us in a lot of ways, and yeah, it was nice getting press, and being like you said a "big dog in town." But it's not like it's totally out of the realm of possibility that we can ever have a good season again. Know how I know? Because we squandered opportunities for 20 years and then made the Sweet 16. Conversely, an 11 seed and a first round exit (which was the best reasonable scenario this year) would not have suddenly turned us in to Xavier on Gonzaga. Sucks, we should have made a little more hay while the sun was shining. That doesn't mean it's never gonna come up again.

Not every night is a referrendum on the future of the program, but there are night they play terrible and people are allowed to acknowedge that fact. If people want to vent after a loss, I understand it. I don't particularly care for some of it because a number of times it seems to get a little too personal, but it's a messageboard and that's going to happen. But my post was directed at cpico because he's basically been repeating himself for most of the season. My point was say it once, maybe twice, and be done with it. Instead, he ripped the team in the early part of the season, then makes himself scarce when things started to turn around a little, and is now back ripping them again, questioning their effort, and calling them an embarrassment and a disgrace on multiple occasions. I understand the frustration, but I completely disagree that the team has ever quit. I was expecting a lot better from them also, but sometimes things don't come together like everybody thinks it will for a number of different reasons. It's happened to plenty of other teams with high expectations. But I know how hard these kids work and how much they care, so I think it's pointless to rip them on a messageboard that way, basically questioning their desire and work ethic. I know, I know, they're on scholarship, they're big boys, they should be able to take criticism, blah, blah, blah, but to call them quitters and question their effort because they haven't consistently played well really irks me. IMO, it's just wrong. I'm not stroking myself or think my outlook is the purest. That's the last I'm going to comment about it.

Since I was one of the grouchy ones...
I agree with kjmac, and never once thought this squad quit on us. I do, however, believe that this is a super talented team that lacks the glue of an emotional leader. And I'm frustrated that all the pieces are there to compete, but this Sweet 16 crew's worst moments have been when you'd expect them to excell most.
That's what's got me disappointed. Think the world of these kids and I believe they've got all the talent in the world, but... Those two things aren't winning us games.

I don't fault people getting upset about a loss, as mentioned, this year seems to have been a missed opportunity to capitalize on the national attention the team received from last year's run AND preseason expectations. I get annoyed by those who do say the team is an embarrassment when the team still possesses a winning record and suffered a few losses that some would assume last year's team would've won. Yes, the team has struggled...but the team will bounce back. It's not like the program is doomed to eternal failure. They were getting high caliber recruits and transfers prior to this year...they have a few coming in for next year and will continue to do so. It's not as great as we would've liked or thought it would be, but it's not as horrible as a few posters have made it out to be. Go ahead and vent, but be respectful to the players. These are the same KIDS many of us were hyping up and "loving" last year. These are the same KIDS that provided us the thrill and excitement of a Sweet 16 run in which some of us actually travelled to Ohio/Kansas/Cali to see play in the tourney...
