Now that the URI game is no longer a potential trap game, putting this up as a pump-up/ pre-game thread. We did this a few times last year to good effect.
Anything miscellaneous we love about La Salle, hate about Temple, pre-game drinking plans, tweets about the games, etc. goes in here. Time to get excited!
I will start with this: I dislike Temple tremendously.

I once went to an outdoor event at Temple's bell thing, and someone took a shit on the giant concrete base in front of a couple hundred people to be an ass. Not sure if relevant, but this reminded me how I've always had a desire to do the same because Temple sucks.

One of my best friends is a huge basketball fan and a Temple graduate. He went zero basketball games during his four years in college.
They have some creepy hotel on campus.

In a move that signaled a continual disregard for reasonable sensibilities, Temple University desecrated a cemetery at Broad and Berks Streets. A Temple land grab, most of the 28,000 bodies were exhumed from Monument Cemetery in the 1950's and transported to an unmarked mass grave in Northeast Philadelphia. The tombstones and monuments were dumped into the Delaware River to be fill for the Betsy Ross Bridge. Many stones, still legible, are visible at low tide. The former cemetery was transformed into a parking lot.

Oh, I'm good at this game...
How about Khalif Wyatt getting busted on prostitution charges down in AC, then Temple pretty much turning a blind eye to it. That's some bullbird.

John Chaney's lead role in Goongate (2001) was pretty good. Wasn't a big fan of Ingram and John Bryant, though.

The Street political dynasty. Milton and John selling pretzels on Temple Campus back in the 70's. I bet many a pretzel fell on the sidewalk and later was consumed by an unwitting student.

How about cutting TU baseball and leaving the A10 to save football, a quote unquote "revenue" sport? Do they still pretend in their minds that (a) football team is good or (b) that it will ever "make" money? The remaining teams left, most of which may be playing in Ambler Pennsylvania, have not only wallowed in their "BIG East" but it's not even BIG anymore. The half of the conference they were allowed to play in is really not as impressive as the A10 which they left, IMO.

The Sunday Inquirer had a letter from the Chairwomen of the Phila Commission that oversees the buildings along Boathouse Row. She wrote a scathing letter basically outlining all the falsehoods that Temple said about the new building. She outlined Temple not cooperating and not putting any money in the building for years. It went on and on. So all this BS about the reason for dropping crew was the City of Philadelphia was a crock. She did a real nice job and made Temple look like liars.
Two of the most highly respected and successful programs in Temple history are Crew and Baseball. Skip Wilson (baseball) and Gavin White (crew) have made comments about the underhanded way the BOT conducted this process.
Funny that Temple said they were dropping these sports because they were uncompetitive in them and the facilities weren't up to those of other programs. Former La Salle Softball Coach Joe DiPietro is now the Heasd Coach at Temple. Joe said that he never heard a compliant from his players or an opponent about the facilities. Joe also said his budget saw an increase just a few months before school started.
I know it's not a reason to beat them but it sure would be a nice way to stick it to their Administration that poor little La Salle beat them in MBB with all the money and resources they have.
Plus we have our largest discrepancy in W and L's versus them. Any win over Temple BBall is a good win.

That's the thing about Temple that irks me the most. They literally have every advantage possible. They get state money to build a NBA-ish arena. They get all of this redevelopment money to rebuild the neighborhood around their school to make it more comfortable for suburban kids to live in. Mind you, that doesn't really do too much for the people who actually own and reside in the neighborhood -- they get pushed out and priced out and have to live next to parties.
I know we don't exactly have kids who are good neighbors all of the time. But when we worked for a redevelopment project, our school gave up land and saw a supermarket and a chain pharmacy completed. That may now sound like much, but La Salle's neighborhood is a borderline food desert -- there's not a lot of options to get affordable, fresh food or quick, convenient medications. Now there is and those of us who grew up in the suburbs or nice parts of the city take that stuff for granted.
Temple's commercial development gave the neighborhood a yuppie movie theater, a college bar, a chain burrito joint and other stuff along those lines.
It really didn't do much of anything except make Temple more attractive to potential students. There's an argument to be made for that -- hopefully those kids stay in Philly and do good things while here -- but, for the most part, that school's business operations have largely been very self-centered and greedy. And they have public financing behind them that gives them so much flexibility in order to improve the area.
I'm sure the school has a ton of outreach programs and I know their hospital/medical school does a lot in the community but a lot of what they've done and bragged about is really superficial.
Also, screw Dunphy. He's a backstabber. I'll never get over what he did when La Salle really needed him. But, yeah -- we have a Sweet 16 banner under Dr. G's watch and he doesn't at either UPenn or Temple, and now his program is in the absolute dumbest conference in college sports, all because their athletic department sold their soul for a pointless, go-nowhere football team.

Temple founder Russell Conwell served in the Union Army from 1862-1864. Fittingly, in 1864, Conwell was kicked out of the military for deserting his post in North Carolina. He could have gone anywhere....
T for Temple.

OK, those Daily News articles got me fired up. I cannot wait for Saturday. And I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think our run last year really helped bring a sense of pride in the Big 5 back to the average Philly fan, the "Tommy from South Jersey" who only wants to hear WIP talk about the "Birds" 24/7 (by the way, Eagles is short enough, come on).
I love that this thread, which I though would be cheap shots at Fran Dunphy- and by the way Fran is a girl's name- has turned into some reasoned, measured criticisms of Temple. Great work guys.

Here are some sobering statistics. Be it at Penn or Temple, Dunphy seems to have La Salle's number. Franny has been defeated by La Salle only four (4) times in 30 meetings.
As for TU, all time series, Temple leads 71-40. First meeting 1900. Last La Salle win 2009. Last Temple win 2013. G beat Dunphy once (2009) in 14 matchups. G has only won twice against Temple, 2009 and 2006 (Chaney.)

I still find it weird how different I am from the masses here. I liked/like Temple. I hate St. Joseph's of PA and Villanova but Temple's cool. Residual Quincy Wadley goodwill or something.
