Wow, this is insanity. Can't believe La Salle is realistically talking about even dropping conferences, forget division III.
In this age of college athletics, conference alignment is everything. It drives the money and the recruiting, it drives national relevance. I know there's an enrollment issue, and becoming a low-major won't help that.
The A10 has lost a lot of prestige, and it seems like it might lose more if some combination of the AAC and Big East scoop up VCU and Dayton, but it's still a great conference producing top 25 teams. It's a down year, but it wasn't too long ago it sent 6 teams to the tournament without temple, Xavier, butler. Playing in the A10 makes the sky the limit. Facilities might hold you back, but in theory, that changes easier than conference alignment does.
I love the MAAC, but it's not where La Salle belongs. I even saw someone bring up the NEC, what kind of a joke is that? How about the ASun, and you guys can circle FGCU and NJIT every year. If you guys support sinking the program to play in one single tournament game every 5 years, I don't really know what to say. You lose money, you won't ever have a team even as talented as the current one is, and the brand is going to be tarnished probably forever. There are a dozen programs that would kill to get into the A10, but I think the conference would prefer the legacy and competition La Salle offers over Iona and Drexel.
