Lasalle needs to improve all their buildings. How much will this nursing home cost?

1. La Salle doesn't complain about their footprint. 2. I would never stick Christian Brothers in a damn hospital. Your comment and others' isn't mutually exclusive.

I look at the annual report that comes out as to alumni giving and in my opinion it is a bit sad. Please do not tell me build it and they will come. All very true. Anyone have any pull with a Thomas Kline-type that would like to donate a cool $50 million? The Oprah Winfrey School of Communication could work.

Only place to put it. Lasalle is landlocked. Did this secret deal cost lasalle the fitness center? Why not simply convert / renovate one or two floors of the former Germantown Hospital building for use as the Christian Brothers nursing home ? It's right on campus, it's centrally located and it's already there. Answer : This solution is entirely too obvious, too economical and too sensible. Why would you convert an underutulized hospital with separate guest rooms into a nursing home? It's better to put a nursing home in the middle of the flow of a college campus -- where move-in events, homecoming events and graduation events occur. What happens when someone calls an emergency ambulance for a sick Brother in the middle of one of these events? Is anyone thinking here?

Can tell you one place they aren't... That old wooden structure withstood a lot over the years. During Sandy, they only lost one screen window while neighbors had the garages full of wet sand. I was told that someone tried to set fire to the beams under the house but do to the years on salt air and water the beams were basically petrified. The fire never got started. I was told that the Brothers (Baltimore District to which we belong) are building one smaller home on the end lot. Should be ready come this Summer.

Good story -- knew a few people who worked there during the summers of their La Salle years. They all spoke very high of it.
Got to imagine the view was slightly better than what the tennis courts will offer.

Got to imagine the view was slightly better than what the tennis courts will offer. The place in Ocean City NJ is a retreat house and not a retirement home. I see Bro. Geoffrey Kelly taking a walk on the beach every Summer. Best little secret is the 5pm Saturday night Mass. The old House had a wrap around porch. You could come from the beach and attend Mass. The tradition will continue I am told with the new house but probably on a smaller scale.

Was never an Ocean City guy, but I always heard of the 'penguin walk' in the early mornings from a few family friends.
I'll see you in poor-old Wildwood. But our Boardwalk is better, and teaches street smarts.

La Salle should buy and demolish some of the homes along Olney and Wister and build the new weight room and bookstore across from the business school near the explorers den. I have been visiting campuses with my son. The one thing that really stands out is the bookstores vs LaSalles. St Joes is so nice. So was Temples. I also watched the Nova game with my brother who is a Nova alum. It was very embarrassing ...especially when we have a 3 on 1 breakaway and can't even get a shot off and turn it over. We also miss so many 2 foot lay ups. I did not expect to win but there was no teamwork and no stand out individual performances as well. Holding out hope for next year. Hoping for 10 wins this year.

I'm baffled why La Salle claims they don't have enough land... Isn't there a ton of land and parking near the Softball Field and behind the hospital? It is the location of the future Olympic sports teams fields (ie soccer). They are going to get rid of McCarthy???

Agreed... Temple also has another bookstore at 17th and Market near city hall I think. If it makes anyone feel any better, La Salle has played about 1/3 as many games as the sixers but has 4 times as many wins as them. It could be much worse.

It would make the most sense to get rid of McCarthy and put those fields near the softball field... Then build dorms or an arena or both where McCarthy and Devincent field were. The turf is old anyways.

The turf is less than 10 years old...and they spent millions on those fields around 2006-2007...not to mention, it's kind of cool having a field right in the middle of campus. I'd say that we should explore bringing back football, but it was a disaster last time.

Schools are going to be dropping football, not adding it.

Division 3 football doesn't make sense financially and isn't going to bring that many students... It'll just be a money pit for the funds that the athletic program doesn't even have. In my opinion, within reason, most of the money from the athletic dept will go towards basketball, except for the bare minimum for the other sports..

Add to campus - the west campus! That purchase was a great move by the school.
I can hardly believe, as one poster intimated here, that the school would be foolish enough to seriously entertain proposals to remove one or more collegiate gothic 1920/30s building from the quad! Know your architectural assets and seek to highlight them.

Schools are going to be dropping football, not adding it. This.. An entity that is in a financial shortfall isn't going to add back a financial loser.. Frankly, it was dumb to add it in the first place but the responsible administration did worse (see topic at hand for the last decade at least).

It is the location of the future Olympic sports teams fields (ie soccer). more on this, please. The plan for campus was to blow through the armory (the building is not useable) and make that the main entrance to the school. You go up the hill with the road through DeVincent Field and McCarthy Stadium. This does allow for additional buildings to be put up. Soccer and/or baseball would move to the Hospital area where is land and really put a field/stadium that fits the attendance (McCarthy was way way too big).

If I listed my top 500 priorities/wants/dreams for the school, bringing back football would not be on that list. A school like ours does not need a football team, and it's not like we've historically had one either. Two 10 year stretches about 50 years apart.
It was worth a try I guess, but there's no reason to think doing it again would have any more success.

What? Put the dedicated Brothers in an old hospital.? Away from the main Campus? Shove them off in the corner? Put them amongst the students! They are still sages. they are an inspiration to others! Showcase them! F.S.C. should stand for FOOD_SHELTER_CLOTHING. the shelter component should not be an asylum!
