Green's final two schools were La Salle and George Washington. I would agree that Rodney was not a point guard but he was a solid player. G promised the keys and kept his promise to Rodney. I am all for loyalty but not at the expense of the team.
All of this is minor stuff compared to Jerrell Williams. What G allowed him to do was flat-out wrong. to let that guy eat 10 leather-ball sandwiches a night in the offense was brutal.
It seems offense is G Achilles heel.
I really don't know what we are going to do next year. It could be a real train-wreck.
It cost us early in the season with his sense of entitlement/loyalty whatever you wanna call it for DJP when Roberts showed all last season that he was the 3. He was the talk of the 3 players sitting out. People knew of Price, so more was expected but it was Roberts level of performance against Mills and DJP that drew reviews. I am glad the posters on the board that 4 months ago that were fighting this are done. Naturally, it is easy to see now with Roberts is actually playing extended, meaningful minutes (last couple games aside). I kinda feel the same way with the Shuler situation vs Stukes and Lewis...
Shuler was far more decorated than Stukes and Lewis coming out of Prep and AAU. I frankly don't pay attention to ranking or high school awards in the end it is politics and subjective. I do however look to see who is recruiting and offering players to see their true worth. He turned heads in preseason so much the redshirt was taken off the board BY THE COACHING STAFF... The people in the Pro-Stukes and Pro-Lewis can say Shuler makes far more mistakes or is too inconsistent but his expected return ceiling is higher than both. Just having him standing in a corner or the elbow for an open 3 is fine because that is literally all we need out of the 3rd guard. We would score an estimated 6 points per game at least.
You could make the argument that another one of G's achilles heels is loyalty which comes at the expense of the team often. Which is a hard place to set get footing because loyalty is good thing but out of respect for performance, I struggle.
This is why I have been so adamant about Shuler. It is beyond me why Stukes' shot and mechanics have not improved one iota after a full redshirt year to devote to it. Lewis works hard but he is simply not an A-10 caliber point guard.
I'm 100% in agreement that Shuler should be stationed at the elbow or corner for spot up threes at this point. It would be unfair to both him and the team to assign him PG duties at this late stage. This is NOT to say it shouldn't have been done from the get-go. At least important minutes as a backup PG.
And yeah, spotting up for threes could bring 6-9 points a game. He has a good looking shot.
