Based on what? They're a 9 loss team with a bottom 20th percentile SoS.

Do we have anyone coming in next season besides Yevgen and Karl Harris? I believe I read the plan for Harris was to redshirt. Shuler should get a lot of minutes if he stays but even with him it seems we are going to be awfully thin. We barely have a bench now. With the apparent makeup of next year's team there is no way we can redshirt Karl Harris. (Unless we want to lose 20+ games). Harris is gonna have to help keep Stukes, Roberts, Lewis, Price and (Shuler) fresh because I fear they'll be one man up front. I hope Tony Washington exceeds all expectations because otherwise Rohan Brown is going to see a lot of time up there trying to fend off the bigs. I really hope Yevgen has a good inside game. Does he as far as anyone knows? BTW, I hope that Shuler now sees an opportunity for himself with the level of play of Stukes and Lewis and the graduation Of DJ.

We lost to them twice. And c'mon, Fordham is a bottom feeder! You have to admit that, and we NEVER even threatened Fordham. George Mason is not good either and we got handled by them.

If Harris is ready to complete at this level then let him play as a true freshman but if he's not ready it's a wasted year of eligibility. I don't know a lot about the kid but i kind of doubt he's going to be the difference between winning or losing 20 games. I hope Shuler stays as well. Besides Roberts, (who has gone ice cold) it seems Shuler is our only real threat from 3 point land.

This is college hoops, not college football. Freshmen make contributions across the country. I can see redshirting the occasional project big man. However, we redshirted a point guard last year, and there was talk of redshirting another guard this year. Next year, we're going to redshirt yet another guard? Will we ever have a full roster to play with? It seems as if there's always only 9 players available.

We'll agree to disagree then. I believe this team has enough talent to win if they were to play head to head; however, due to their offense (or lack thereof) combined work their recent terrible play and the fact that FGCU has beaten a common opponent on the road (who we've lost to), I'm gonna have to go with us losing in a head to head...

Yeah, if we're going to play the common opponent game, either we need to agree to disagree or I need to say we're better than Wichita State.

If there is ever going to be a year when we should press and run it should be next year. We should have all available hands on deck.

All of the "G" apologists always said "G" "wasn't a good game day coach, but was a great recruiter". These past few recruiting classes have been underwhelming to say the least.

I guess...they made the Tourney and followed up with an NIT appearance and are likely to get that again if they don't make NCAA'S this year. but at least you can say "we're still better than them"...

No not even close when our sophomores are seniors We will have the second leading scorer in A10 behind Bembry .Also next year we will have the least experienced big men Yevgen never played a game in college yet and a transfer or recruit so now at we will have a good team next year and our leading shot blocker is leaving .whe zach is not in we suck and give up easy points.

tough to recruit or draw a transfer for a big when you have two definite starters as juniors or seniors. Glad we got YS as a redshirt and glad that TW had a year to develop, though as most say, it would be nice to see what we have. He obviously outplayed JD who is not on the team any longer (wish him the best). Meanwhile if we can land land a stellar transfer for their 4th year for next season we may all eat our words here. Transfers usually come to a program for immediate playing time which G couldn't offer over Wright or Zack. With 2 veteran bigs, he should have brought in a Freshman and given him at least a year to develop, which is being provided to Tony.
G has an eye for talent, no one with can honestly deny that. He gets in early on players that often times go on to top programs and start in major conferences. He gets great transfers and doesn't settle for bad attitudes. It's been frustrating the last two years, but as someone who gave him 8 years to win a share of the big 5, I'm going to continue with some patience. Also, keep in mind, this team didn't thrive on recruits without the "spark" of a few transfers. Now we have recruits, red shirts waiting in the wings and the opportunity to bring in a transfer next year if needed. He shouldn't waste that scholly spot just to satisfy questions and fill it with another body. Looking at the makeup of this team, we may have a situation where everything is supposed to run through the 4 and 5 man. Next year we may go to more guard distribution since Stukes, shuler, and lewis will be more experienced. Sounds like Stokes and Harris would redshirt. A focus on guard distribution and motion without the ball could change the entire complexion of this team.

I would argue Zach was, don't you? He provided rebounding and shot blocking ability and was able to average 8-10 points til this year. It's still very early but wasn't Stukes a great get at the time of his commitment? I believe it was 88 who said his recruiting could've really blown up had we not gotten him when we did. Granted we've been underwhelmed with his performance of late and his warts are really showing now BUT he's been decent overall and he's seen now what he needs to work on. I know it's one thing to say you need to work on something but it's completely different to experience it first hand. I remember Rasual saying he needed to get stronger but it didn't hit him til he started playing and realized how weak he was comlared to the competition (his words not mine).

Stukes is will be an average A-10 guard. Nothing more. Hes a dime a dozen player, IMO.
I agree with Lunatic that "G" needs to focus on Philly. Obviously I would love to see Tone Carr from Roman or Quade Green from Nuemann, but thats isnt going to happen, especially with our guard situation. Who would want to come in and sit behind Stukes and Karl Harris?

Rodney Green got some looks in NBA camps. I don't think we beat out a bunch of majors for him like Duren or Wright so I'd say he's a pretty legit diamond in the rough, right?

Who has G not recruited that he should have? I think he missed the boat with Ahmad Gilbert who is going to George mason but so did all of the local schools. He recruited almost all of the Philly kids that went elsewhere. Not too many have not been recruited by La Salle if they had D-1 talent so I am not sure where this is coming from.

He hasn't eclipsed those teams yet. --- Rodney Green is an interesting one. St. Joe's and Virginia Tech offered I believe and I think he definitely played above expectations, so I'll consider that a 1/2 diamond. He played out of position for his entire career and i think he could have been more of a scoring threat had he not had to also run the point. Good one.

Boston College offer also for Green.. Joe is right.. Green played out of position and that hindered his progression.. I think that is obvious to the board or I would at least hope...
Haven't posted much the last couple days largely due to the fact that the team and program are just too depressing... And sadly a lot of this was preventable...
Stukes was over recruited (also known as a reach) but the thought was that a year off would allow him to develop on the weaknesses that he notably had: Foot speed, shooting and penetration decision making. I was completely fine with the signing and still am. He is young and hard working. Where I am discouraged is that no development has occurred. His perimeter shot is BELOW 10% so you could argue it got worse over the year that he was really only supposed to focus on which is starting to show a trend. If you do not have a perimeter shot in Division 1 basketball, you are no more at best an average D1 guard. The talent in the guard pool is emphasized and too large now.

I am all for loyalty but not at the expense of the team. All of this is minor stuff compared to Jerrell Williams. What G allowed him to do was flat-out wrong. to let that guy eat 10 leather-ball sandwiches a night in the offense was brutal. It seems offense is G Achilles heel. I really don't know what we are going to do next year. It could be a real train-wreck.

If that's the case, I don't mind it, even if it did ding the team a bit. The upside of the best case scenario, putting a guy in the pros, was worth the risk.

He played out of position for his entire career and i think he could have been more of a scoring threat had he not had to also run the point. Good one. Who else on those teams could've run the point? Ruben dribbled way too much, we saw that during his 5th year with the team. While I agree Rodney was not a point guard, G thought he could mold Rodney into a Mardy Collins type point guard, a 6'5 guard that could be a nightmare for smaller back courts. He thought it would be Rodney's fast track to the NBA. I was actually happy with Rodney's career at LaSalle. Barrett and Mbala had solid careers, but I think they didn't live up to their billing coming out of the North Jersey high school scene. Ruben was the most frustrating of the bunch. When he played under control, he could be better than Fernandez from Temple. However, for every good game he had, he had 3 head scratching games. The problem with that recruiting class was the unreal expectations they entered right after Steven Smith graduated and we won 18 games. They were all wing players, (add to the fact that Paul Johnson was also a wing) and we never recruited a point guard or a center to give them help. They played with 1 player that could shoot in Darnell Harris. Kyle Griffin lasted about 6 games. The only big man they got to play with was Vernon for 1 year. Jerrell Williams was a mess, and a black hole on offense. It's a shame, because if Rodney, Yves, and Barrett were given help (i.e. Vernon for more than one year, and a shooter), we would've seen more than one 18 win season and 3 losing seasons. It's also ironic that since those 3 guys have graduated, we've yet to have a true, 6'6 to 6'8 small forward (maybe Rohan Brown) on the team.

I t seems offense is G Achilles heel.I really don't know what we are going to do next year. It could be a real train-wreck. This is where I also get torn... It cost us early in the season with his sense of entitlement/loyalty whatever you wanna call it for DJP when Roberts showed all last season that he was the 3. He was the talk of the 3 players sitting out. People knew of Price, so more was expected but it was Roberts level of performance against Mills and DJP that drew reviews. I am glad the posters on the board that 4 months ago that were fighting this are done. Naturally, it is easy to see now with Roberts is actually playing extended, meaningful minutes (last couple games aside). I kinda feel the same way with the Shuler situation vs Stukes and Lewis... Shuler was far more decorated than Stukes and Lewis coming out of Prep and AAU. I frankly don't pay attention to ranking or high school awards in the end it is politics and subjective. I do however look to see who is recruiting and offering players to see their true worth. He turned heads in preseason so much the redshirt was taken off the board BY THE COACHING STAFF... The people in the Pro-Stukes and Pro-Lewis can say Shuler makes far more mistakes or is too inconsistent but his expected return ceiling is higher than both. Just having him standing in a corner or the elbow for an open 3 is fine because that is literally all we need out of the 3rd guard. We would score an estimated 6 points per game at least. You could make the argument that another one of G's achilles heels is loyalty which comes at the expense of the team often. Which is a hard place to set get footing because loyalty is good thing but out of respect for performance, I struggle.
