I have no problem with a thread on him, although I don't think we need one of his every game. There's not a thing I hate more in all the internet than "Can we please focus on ________ (our next opponent)?" None of us play or coach, so we're not somehow taking away from the focus of La Salle by discussing him. Furthermore, if a topic does not interest you, I suggest simply avoiding it, as long as it stays contained it the thread its supposed to.
I was pretty bitter towards Murray, and I posted about how the standard "I wish him all the success in the world" didn't apply for me when he left this program is what seemed to be the worst shape it had been in in a long time. Couple that with him going to play for Billy Hahn, all under the tutelage of master of scumbaggery Bob Huggins, and I think I (And others) were well justified in rooting for him to not have runaway success last year.
That said, we "won." He flamed out at WVU, we went to the Sweet 16. He plays at North Texas now, as far away from La Salle, both literally and figuratively, as you can get. I'm still not necessarily rooting for the guy, per se, but I do think it's time to dial down the vitriol a bit.
I'm not going to wade in to the last part of this thread, except to say we can't keep having these arguments. Phillyhoops4life seems to be a well known and regarded figure, with some legitimate connections in the area. He genuinely seems to care about a lot of issues, and seems to have quite a passion for education, and seeing a lot of these kids through to college (and actually graduating). But this board generally sticks pretty close to the team, and the program, without delving much into other issues too frequently. I think that's why there has been some friction. Then you throw in any kind of racial element, and even if no one is really disagreeing, volumes tend to get raised.

Seems like the Explorer population has grown tired of this thread. This will be my final response to PH4L. I will defend La Salle as an institution. Murray had constant help at La Salle. From the President of the University on down. Murray had constant academic supervision. He had tutorial services at his finger tips. I wish my two kids that went to La Salle had the help he got. I know you are a big advocate for HBCU which is great but to make it sound like TSU is the only place to build him up irks me. La Salle and G have a history which I will stack up against anyone. Vern Goodridge flourished at La Salle. He came from a background that might have been worst than Murray's. He discovered Computer Sciences. Yves was an Academic All-American. James Jordan left a country in civil war to come to La Salle and is doing well with his life. Paul Johnson is a lawyer and working in NBA offices I believe. Tabby Cunningham is an accountant (maybe a CPA). Anwar Wilson is a Doctor in NYC. I could add more if you wish. Murray had every opportunity at La Salle to become a better person and develop his basketball skills to achieve his NBA goals. He chose to throw that away. He decided to be such a negative influence that many of his teammates were seriously thinking about transferring. He decided to trash G and La Salle. It was never Aaric's fault. Everyone else was a problem. I might have a different opinion of him if he comes out and says something like "I screwed up. I apologize for my actions. I understand that people at La Salle really tried help me as a person." Again, I wished him the best in his life. Well before you used the faith-based reference. I am a HUGE admirer of LaSalle basketball... I respect the fact that LaSalle graduates ALL of their 4-year players... My point was that some young people, like myself, are NOT ready to transition into 'mainstream' institutions at 18 or 19... The kid was clearly not ready for LaSalle or WVU... For those kids, HBCUs provide an opportunity gain an education in a more familiar environment... At no point, did I ever knock LaSalle... Nor would I ever knock LaSalle.. LaSalle provided opportunities for young Blacks like Jackie Moore and Alonzo Lewis when it was not socially acceptable... Some kids have 'issues'... in many instances these issue can be worked out in an HBCU setting... You know, I could back you in your argument that "some young people are not ready to transition into mainstream institutions at 18 or 19..." Just one problem...Aaric is 24 right now, making him 20 when he enrolled at LaSalle...there's no argument for him at this point. It really comes down to Aaric had a big ego, a bad attitude and was more focused on himself than anybody else. Let's say he has gotten it together, good for him. It's unfortunate it took him 24 years to figure that out. He's no longer an NBA prospect with potential. He's as good as he'll get...

He's broken Steve Black's (and Gary Spengler's) record for points against Temple

Friggin impressive. 48 points on 20 for 28 shooting and his team gets a big win.
Goes to show the kind of talent he has. Shame he can never put it all together.

I feel bad for the team that drafts him IF that even happens. Who wants a player that takes all the shots, is not disciplined and clearly lacks respect for coaches. I honestly don't see this kid getting drafted, too many better players than Aaric Murray that actually play against very good teams. Temple played absolutely awful tonight, they don't know how to play defense whatsoever. They should have double teamed Aaric Murray but never did that it was pathetic to say the least.

@davezeitlin: Mike Davis, who coached at Indiana, called Murray's 48-point game "by far the best offensive performance I've ever witnessed as a coach."

Who runs that "Restore Our Tradition: La Salle Explorers Basketball" Facebook page? It's probably someone on here, and you should probably get punched in the balls for asking if we'd want him in blue and gold because we suck this year.

So maybe this is what he needed, a school where wins aren't expected and he can shoot like 60% more than the second option and rack up the number. Good for him, hope it works out, we have far bigger enemies.

I (a phillies fan) think I would rather see Lenny Dykstra rejoin the Phillies. I think this has crossed Ruben's mind. . . But seriously, if Aaric's apparent on the court success is being matched by off the court responsible behavior good for him! I suspect there are a number of people at La Salle (and many other places), folks who have grey hair directly attributable to trying to help Aaric who would be very pleased by this maturation.

I'm not his biggest fan by any stretch, but what makes him a thug? Immature (at least then), selfish, a little out of control on the basketball court maybe, but thug?
Thug is a loaded word.

I wish him well. He may indeed have some mental health issues. Hopefully he can get those under control. Like I said in another post you can't judge unless you walked in the shoes of some of these guys. It's easy for us because we grew up in stable middle class homes and had parents as role models. I cant even imagine growing up in the situation of some of these kids. The nice thing for him is they won the game. Texas So. needed everyone of his points.

Well, he was sent to Glen Mills, a school for court-adjudicated students. (Which means he had to have done something to be sent there.) And, of course, the 2011 drug arrest. Thug.

A.Murray will never be an NBA player he just is not good enough. Kid was not a bad young man just lost in what was important. He will be a nice overseas player and had a great game against a below average Owls team. I have no ill will towards the young man and wish him the best going forward.

angryal you know what happens when you assume...no wait, you dont...you make an ass out of you Just because he was sent to Glen Mills doesn't mean he's a thug, simply means he violated the law...exactly what law(s) I don't know specifically. Smoking weed or cutting class hardly makes someone a thug... Good for Aaric for being successful thus far at his new college and hopefully he makes something out of it. He's very talented but has always let immaturity get in his way. and angryal...you're still an idiot, signed the whole board
