Manhattan deserves credit. You just can't brush their play aside. They beat a Sweet 16 team on their home floor.
Granted we didn't play well but they had something to do with that.

Think the general consensus is "they're a solid squad." Edit: ... That made us play some real ugly ball. I give them credit. I have no problem giving them credit but you can't call them a very good team it was game 1 of the season. The loss sucked just call it as it is. We can agree to disagree. For a MAAC team, I think they're very good. Well coached and gritty. Doesn't mean that the loss didn't suck, but by the same logic you can't say we suck or our bigs suck because it's "game 1 of the season." Tuesday morning we'll see how we react.

The thing that stinks about losing this game is that it leaves us with little to no wiggle room the rest of the non conference schedule. Can't lose any games we should win. 11-3 is probably what we need to do to put us in a good position heading into A-10 play. Hopefully today was a wake up call to the players and coaches.

The banner ceremony was suppose to be BEFORE the game but G squashed it. He didn't want his team to see the ceremony. Brennan told me G didn't want them resting on what they did last year. Well that backfired. Those kids earned it. Maybe it would have sparked something. No excuse for this loss. PERIOD. Here is a text I got from an alum who is a diehard since early 80's:
They lost to Manhattan?!? Even Speedy beat Manhattan. From Sweet 16 to ranked #216.

G got them to the Sweet 16, he earned the right. He knows his squad best. Like that he stcuk with his gut. Good info.

Just watched Big Man on Campus on CSN. They all picked LaSalle as the best team in the city. They said returning all but one and have the poise and experience to get back to the tourney. Also said they won't be surprised if St Joes ends up being the best team in the city. Well it took exactly one game for LaSalle to come back to earth. I was hoping for an 8-0 start. At least a 3-0 start. We must win a road game we are not suppose to win to make up for this one.

I really don't think you can look at things like that.

I didn't read the game thread all the way through, but the key point in the game to me was the timeout called by G on the inbound play with 40 seconds left in OT. Just a really bad (and baffling) decision considering it was their last time out, with predictable results. In that spot just trust your guys and save the time out for when you get trapped, which is exactly what happened. Nice piece of analysis.

The sky is not falling BUT this was the FIRST game of the season at HOME after the SWEET 16 run with a PACKED house and BANNER hanging ceremony and expectations were high from everyone including media and coaches and LaSalle laid a big fat egg. We don't want our run being considered a fluke. THIS season is so important to establish ourselves as winning program. We must get back to the NCAA tourny this year while we are still fresh in everyone's mind. We need that exposure and we need that money. Tues can't get here soon enough.

This game would have been easier to digest if it was not the opener. It is just one game and we have plenty of time to regroup.
No one played well and we had a decent team beat up 3 with the ball in the last 40 seconds of overtime and lost because our veteran guards made a bad decision at a critical time e. I doubt that happens again this year. I agree the road got more difficult but not impossible to navigate to the NCAA tourney.
Crazy stat........La Salle is the only A-10 team to lose a fame opening weekend. Crazy.

A few observations after attending yesterday's game. Don't want to be repetitive. In something I read within the last few days, Tyreek said the team will have an X on its back because of the Sweet 16 finish. I think Masiello has been preparing the Jaspers for this game ever since it was scheduled. Manhattan seemed ready to play and knew what they needed to do for the W. In terms of improvement we can't NOT rebound and NOT defend the three ball in the same game like we did. It's a very bad combination. I also hope our three point shooting can improve. And yes, on court leadership from the guards was spotty.

I think Galloway helped with that. This is a team that has to be better than their opponents from deep if they are going to have a chance.

I think we have to reserve judgement until we see what Lewis can bring to the table
In addition, my only disappointment was with the brain crampS by our guards at the end. Duren should always be the receiver on the inbounds in a one possession game and Garland should not have had the ball there at the end.
They looked to be playing with a mindset of "we can't lose or people will be pissed" instead of just playing their game
Long term it hurts the report card in March but I think it pays off in other ways. I remain convinced if this was the 2nd or 3rd game of the season it would have been a win.

Yeah that "even Speedy beat Manhattan" I'm assuming is a joke, but still. That was 20 years ago, teams are different.

Kudos to Manhattan. They deserved to win that game. Very disappointing that our guys didn't close it out up 3 with the ball with 40 seconds left. The whole team needs to hit the boards for this team to win, even the guards. 1 rebound for Sam and 0 for Tyrone is unacceptable, especially when there are a lot of long rebounds like yesterday. Tyrone must have had at least 5 shots go in and out on him yesterday. At least for game one, the luck factor was not in La Salle's favor.

I agree with most of what kjmac said. Tyrone didn't look good in pre-game as he was missing most of his long range shots. I think he may need a shooting coach (aka Herb Magee).
Here is the banner raising event at halftime...

From a technical NCAA formula standpoint does losing in OT or double OT the exact same as losing in regulation? I know in the NHL you get a point for the tie. Just wondering if anyone knew the answer.

RPI only cares about wins and losses. The committee itself will get into more detailed items such as losses like Saturday's and if key players are injured if you're a bubble team, but you could argue that the record matters most there too.
Too early to be splitting hairs over tournament talk though.

Fordam and GW have now both beat Manhattan. I'm not a guy who usually compares scores but this scares me quite a bit.

I take it back Manhattan sucks also. Fordham and GW both beat the Jackers but not us at home no less. Man we better fix our problems in a hurry or 12th or 13th place are within grasp in the A10.

Looking back, this is a game where we came from behind, and had the game won in the first OT. And we turn the damn ball over with about 30 ticks left on the clock. The clock struck midnight, and the explorers reverted back to the days of Pre-Galloway. The ghosts of 20 point losses, and the struggle to score are haunting the court wherever this team is playing, and it doesn't look good right now. No cohesiveness, no teamwork, no confidence.
