Game was lost when Garland was trying holding onto the ball in hopes of getting fouled to pad his stats. Bye bye any hopes of breaking into the top 25. Very disappointing.

The problem with this loss is the impact it will have on our media darling status. It isn't fatal to our season but it will take alot for us to win back the media.

Sitexplorere their conference is a joke just like our teams play today. Our littlea, Wright and Zack both played 4 inches shorter than their height. You sit around for the start of the season and then end up with this shit.

While Jerrell played a good game on offense, him and Zack disappeared on the defensive end. Some of it bad bounces, but they just got owned down there.
I'm gonna go grab a beer or 17.

By Christmas all the good will toward the program should be gone and everything will be back to normal. Can you say NIT.

Rebounding was actually worse today than last season. Ramon was a our third leading rebounder, and while I'm pretty sure Garland can replace his scoring (with help from others), that isn't going to get better. Our bigs do not do a good enough job of getting position, either.

I'm not going to play the usual game of pinpointing one or two plays that would have made the game go our way... ill just say there is no way you should ever lose your season and home opener to an opponent such as this. An opponent such as this?? They returned 89% of scoring and 88% of rebounding and are picked top win their league. They are far from pushovers as we found out.

Excuse my French, but I think we need to slow the fuck down. We can't be making all these rash judgements from a sample size of ONE game. I'm right there with ya, that really sucked. But we also lost to Central Connecticut State last year, and we ended up in the Sweet 16. Manhattan is no CCSU, get that right. In a month or two from now, that loss isn't going to look half as bad. Not saying they're some dream team, but pump the brakes.
Maybe this loss will pump the brakes for this team too, get their heads out of the clouds and light a fire under their asses. Maybe not, I don't know. But I don't feel like listening to all of you talk about jumping from the Ben Franklin until Tuesday morning.
Grab a beer, curse off a picture of Martelli and Dunphy and try to breathe.

Jesus - everyone relax please. That manhattan team is loaded and probably better than all but 4 or 5 teams in the A10
Our guys were too amped early and couldn't get shots to fall, a few early threes would've change the whole game
Rebounding is a concern today but I think it gets better when Lewis get healthy and can mix it up down low a bit
Sucks to lose especially when they made a great come back and really ha the game on ice in OT and made a couple mental mistakes
I'm sure everyone will be all excited after they rattle off 6 or 7 in a row
We lost at home to a MUCH worse CCSU team last year so just chill. Atmosphere who'll be great Tuesday morning and should blow the doors off quinnipiac
Going to be a great season

If we playe that game a week or two later I think the outcome would have been much more in our favor. Early losses happen

I'm not panicking. Manhattan is a very good team and this would have been an excellent win to have. Not going to derail our season. But the rebounding problem is real and huge.

Yes to it ALL but didn't want this season to start like all the others. Zack and Wright have got to play like bigs. Our guards were out played as well. Let's rattle off a bunch of wins now. Also. If u soak your banner in water I think it expands.

Yeah I really don't know what to make of the rebounding situation. There were series where we lost out on 4 or 5 defensive boards. It was so bad, so far off what I've seen and heard prior to today, I can't imagine it not getting substantially better...

I'm on my potato phone and was in the band during the game... Someone help me out here. What did we shoot from the floor in each half, and what was our stats from beyond the arch?
My point is, what happen to the deep ball? I get that we have two great tools down low in Steve and Jerrell, but we seemed to reluctant to shoot from three when it was our absolute bread and butter last year. I'm speaking from observation only.

It was a good game for La Salle. Give them credit for not scheduling a cakewalk to open the season, as Manhattan is a solid squad. Garland looked fantastic and the other guards were solid as well, but we need better play from Zack and Wright in the paint, as we got dominated on the boards. All in all, we weren't going undefeated, so good to get that first loss out of the way. Definitely going to be a good season for La Salle. www.broadstbeat.com/2/post/2013/11/la-salle-drops-opener-to-manhattan-in-double-overtime.html

Back from the game. Thriller but extremely infuriating. Rebounding? Good hands? People were literally screaming at the top of their lungs, GET A God DAMN REBOUND! Zack touted as having improved tremendously? Feels like I got punched in the stomach. Wake me up Tuesday morning.
Other observations: Mini Banners are nice, good give-a-way. Could hardly hear the PA announcer. Odd. Poss my nosebleed seats. Special signs that were created thanks to people on this board were great. Band looks and sounds strong. Oldies but goodies songs and new material I believe. Banner revealed, that should have happened after National Anthem when full attention could have been paid to it, not during halftime. Classy move having moment of silence for Glaser and Brother Thomas.

Looks like the media reaction is mostly great win for Manhattan and not being reported as a bad loss for the Explorers

Yeah just reading the A10 forum for reaction... Consensus is that Manhattan's depth could make them top 4 A10 squad, and it's more of game of how good they were as crazeeguy said. People wee actually impressed that we hung with them and showed grit when nothing was working. If the remainder of their OOS wasn't kinda flakey, they'd be playing ball in March regardless of the MAAC tourney.

We fumbled away this game from the tip. Agreed. The Jaspers outplayed us.

Take that padding that stat shit elsewhere. Yeah, that's a ridiculous statement. I just think he wasn't thinking clearly. He should have dribbled out or passed it. There was no way the Jaspers were going to foul him at that point.

The rebounding was bad. I'm not sure why we didn't have both bigs in with around 10 minutes to go because Manhattan kept getting offensive rebound after offensive rebound. It was a disappointing loss especially after they came back to tie the game and then threw the ball away late in the first OT. Oh well, let's see how they play against the Mighty Quinn.

Ugh, they're much much better and collected than that sequence indicated.

They just seemed to lose themselves for a few minutes. I have no idea what Garland was thinking, but I'm convinced it was a simple brain fart. Only an idiot would make a comment like he was padding his stats.

Whatever. We lost a game that we could have won, and we let it slip away. Atleast that first loss is out of the way, and we can move on from it and improve.

More thoughts now that I'm back:
1) We lost the game on the boards. No other way to put it. If we close out a bunch of those possessions we win. Period. I actually thought our rebounding got better in the end of the game -- we closed things out and tied it. But that was what happened.
2) G said last year our team's success was predicated on making 3's and preventing other team from taking 3s. Manhattan had the same playbook. Their whole defense was to prevent that from happening. They did a great job with that. They also have a lot of quick hands that keeps easy kickouts from happening. On top of being talented, they're also very well coached and play an incredibly tough style -- especially in their first game when the only tape you have on them is from last year or maybe an exhibition game.
3) They had those open looks because they have a lot of big dudes who set really good picks.
4) We finally figured out the zone by getting them in foul trouble and getting to the rim. Garland in the second half was getting to the rim literally anytime he wanted. Finishing is a different story but sometimes they fall and sometimes they don't.
5) They're fine. They lost to a very good team that could challenge in the A-10. Some things need to get tightened up -- obviously defensive rebounding -- but they're what we know they are: A really good, veteran team who are capable of beating anyone.
