I actualy think our Men's hoops budget was above a decent number of other schools - Explorer88 usually has that info from whatever gov't filing it is that they are required to report that stuff.

www.bbstate.com/info/teams-hoopsbudgetTake it with a grain of salt because reporting is different with public/private and how funding is labeled, but #151 of 344 DI schools in terms of basketball budget, last in the A10, and spending about a shade less than a million per year than St Joes.

I can't pull it down from the dept of education because if the shutdown - but I could've sworn a couple years back we were in the middle of the pack in terms of operating budget for hoops
My suspicion is we will move up dramatically on that list this year considering the extra 6 figures coming in for the next 5 years or whatever the payout is for the tourney run
Need two or three more wins in the next 2 seasons in the NCAA and we could ride the tourney gravy train for a while financially

$2,038,193 payable over 6 yrs. per unit x 4 units Total $8,152,772 100.00% A - 10 $2,038,193 25.00% La Salle $6,114,579 75.00%

Then it's feasible to assume the hoops budget increased at least a few hundred thousand and the rest will go to the overall dept funding

I can't believe there is any way they reduced it. They must be reporting their numbers differently.

It could have been reduced. I mean, I know the university faced some obvious hurdles with the economy going to crap. Job freezes, benefits frozen, etc. but would be surprised if other schools upped and we didn't.

I searched the net for an objective source of financial information and came up with this link. money.cnn.com/2010/03/18/news/companies/basketball_profits/While the information is dated (2010), it indicates that at the time, La Salle was the 12th ranked school based on basketball revenues using the current conference alignment. The report is a little difficult to maneuver. Dayton 9.0 mil St Louis 3.10 St Joe 2.91 VCU 2.77 UMass 2.75 Geo Wash 2.71 Rhode Isl 2.66 Fordham 2.58 Geo. Mason 2.437 Richmond 2.430 Duquense 2.40 La Salle 2.008 St Bonaventure 2.004

I didn't think the low budget numbers were shocking news, but atleast it's a thing of the pass with those tournament credits rolling in soon.

Chartered flights seems like a big waste of money to me. This is doubly true in the A-10. What schools do we fly to for those games? St. Louis, Dayton and Davidson? Do we even fly to Amherst or URI or Duquesne? That's the benefit of being in the northeast. In the out-of-conference, there are four away trips. This first is to Penn State. Would they even fly to that game? I have no idea. Then to the Paradise Jam. Then there's MSG, Villanova, Miami and Penn. There are only two trips that you would absolutely have to fly to this season. We're really spend money on chartering flights? That sounds more of a "keeping up with the Joneses" than doing something that actually helps the team. It has nothing to do with "keeping up with the Joneses. It's about giving your team the best chance to win. I seriously doubt that Brennan was talking about chartering flights to every away game. But it would be nice to have the ability to do it when it's really needed, maybe two-three times a season. I see two instances this season where charters would really benefit the team. They play at St Bonaventure at 9pm on a Wednesday night which is followed with a noon home game against VCU that Saturday. A charter flight would allow them to avoid two long, cramped bus trips and literally give them an extra day to get their legs back for the VCU game. They also have another 9pm Wednesday game at Dayton followed by a Saturday afternoon game at Richmond. Hire a charter to fly them direct to Richmond instead of flying back to Philly and bussing it to Richmond a day later. Thank you. You nailed it. You zeroed in on the two games where chartering a plane is necessary. Especially playing VCU on short rest. Anyone who has done that drive to and from Olean knows its not a fun ride. I know on occasion that SJU and Temple used charters for some A10 away games. If chartering two flights means we get two more wins in conference (and to overall record) than it's worth the expenses X10? I personally am glad we are considering this. Part of TB's job is the give all the programs the necessary resources to compete for league championships. TB should be reaching out to alumni donors. I think his job is a little easier and the message( need funds for charters) is received better than a year ago.

Funny hykos, but frequent flier miles are an improper benefit for the student-athletes. If you meant for TB, he can afford to pay his own way. Yes, it was tongue in cheek.

Are we still searching for a new AD? G was able to salvage both his and Dr. Denim's careers at the last second... if we didn't make the NIT and follow it with a NCAA appearance both would likely have been gone. Our AD has to be getting close to retirement age so we should at least be looking for new young talent for that position. G can stay as long as he keeps building us into the national program we should have always been (damn that MCC move).

Brother Mike is a big fan of him, which explains the change in departments, which is interesting considering of Brother Mike's impending retirement. The new President might have their own ideas.

If you're saying who I think you're saying, I'm not sure how I feel about that guy as the A.D. - like him very much personally but don't know about the fit in that role. I'd prefer someone who came up in Athletic Administration, preferably as a high-level Assistant/Assoc A.D. at a bigger school looking to get a shot at the top of a dept.
