La Salle broke their 21 year streak for not making the NCAA tournament. During that same time, the Pittsbugh Pirates did not make the playoffs. The Explorers could at least say they had a couple of winning seasons during that timeframe but the Pirates had 21 straight losing seasons. La Salle got in and had a wonderful run. Could the Pirates do something similar?
Now let's look at Rutgers which hasn't been in the tourney since 1990. Are they the Mets partner? (Just making a joke. I didn't research).

The epitome of “small time, and small market,” organization. A team over shadowed in their home town. A club with a tremendous history, which endured two decades of basement dwelling. It’s great to see the Pirates back in the post season. You’d be hard pressed to find a fanbase in MLB that needed a post season appearance more than the folks in Western PA.
I can’t watch at TBS sports crew without being reminded of the Sweet 16….

Playing in what is commonly agreed to be the nicest stadium in the league ... with the best player in the league ... an ownership group worth into the billions ...

I was highlighting our differences from Pittsburgh. Also, I don't think anyone here advocates gross fries on a sandwich. Atleast I hope not.

I was in Pittsburgh this past May, and that stadium really blew me away how good it was. Just incredible.
That said, while the Pirates have struggled the last 20 years, the other two teams in that town certainly have not. If there's a fanbase that could use a little sports salvation, it's the market that hosts tonight's Wild Card Game.

I may have mentioned this before, but I used to travel to Cleveland for work every once in a while and their fans were legitimately offended that Philadelphia was considered the city that couldn't win. Like not having a title was bad, but being ignored for a city who had a far shorter drought was just too much to bear. Lebron was right to leave.

Funny. Temple board has a thread comparing the parallels of the Pirates and Owls football.

In the NL: Colorado and San Diego and Houston and Washington (formerly the Montreal Expos) have never won WS title.

MisterD clearly not a fan of Primanti Bros. I can tolerate the sandwiches, minus the cole slaw

As far as sandwiches with way too much on them goes, Primanti's are way better than Schmitter's in Phillies games. (Not that that says much!)
Pirates won the play-in game. La Salle won the play-in game. Rutgers football would be a better analogy than Temple. Temple's frequent "almost" wins probably deceives the fact that opposing coaches tend to throw their "B" guys into that game just for playing time.
